September 22, 200718 yr Well personally I never get that nervous before an exam. The way I see it; I know the content of subject that the exam is about (usually) and the exam isn't that important in the grand scheme of things. The day before an exam I don't do any revision, I try to do something relaxing like watching TV or a film then I try to get a good nights sleep (which might be the most important thing. On the day of an exam I don't look at my notes or anything - cramming right before an exam gets me extremely nervous and it doesn't help you learn anything new because if you don't know by then you'll never learn it in my opinion. I don't really talk too much to my classmates before an exam either because I find their pre-exam nerves seem to transfer to me. The advise I'd give you is just not to take the exam/test too seriously because it's not that important, don't stress about the stuff you don't know - focus on what you do know. If you've done the work and prepared well throughout the year by attending classes and doing revision you'll do okay. He who learns must suffer, and, even in our sleep, pain that cannot forget falls drop by drop upon the heart, and in our own despair, against our will, comes wisdom to us by the awful grace of God. - Aeschylus (525 BC - 456 BC)

September 22, 200718 yr If you get nervous, try and think of it in a black and white way: I've revised, I will be fine. I haven't revised, I will only get a retest, which I can revise for, and then I will do fine. It works for me :D Thanks to Quarra for the awesome sig!Xbox360 Gamertag = Tintin113

September 22, 200718 yr When I take tests or quizzes? I get really nervous and can't control it. I was pretty nervous this Wednesday, I had my first test of the year, Algebra 2 test. Well I wasn't feeling good today, and only came to school pretty much to see my results. I got an 89% B! The whole class scored points 97%-28%, so we're taking an extra credit for some people. Back to the point, are there any good things to keep my mind off of getting nervous while taking an exam? I always think I am going to fail. Any help is appreciated, thanks. drugz wil halp
October 5, 200718 yr well, if you know the topic covered by the exam/studied for the test, then why be nervous? :D just relax..or else face the consequences of mental block caused by nervousness. o.O
October 5, 200718 yr Don't go too overboard studying etc. That way you'll start thinking about whether you've done the right stuff, if it'll be useful etc. Uh, keep your mind off it I suppose. I wouldn't really know as I don;'t get nervous before exams. :-$ Doomy edit: I like sheep
October 5, 200718 yr 28% Haha somebody was high. or someone wasn't high enough :-w OT: Before exams i like to chill out at a nice spot at school listen to my iPod and have a coke for 5-10 minutes it really chills me out and i am never nervous when it comes to exams. ^Click Siggy for Blog^
October 6, 200718 yr Do what I do. Seeing that you don't revise a lot, try not doing it the last 2-3 hours before the exam. Also, if you get nervous, ask for permission to go to the bathroom, even if you don't need to. Walking a bit, breathing some fresh air and drinking some water work wonders. October 6, 200718 yr Breathing techniques. I use my 10 min perusal time to breathe deeply and slowly and to calm the mind, relax the muscles and to focus while every body reads. Another tip I find useful is if you're allowed to write on your exam paper during perusal time, to write down any material or formulas you know you will forget. I also usually meditate or listen to calm tribal music before I travel to the university campus. I've never scored below a distinction and I still get extreme anxiety before exams... The technique calms me down a lot and helps me get a feel of the environment and to adapt. The only people who tell you that you can't do something are those who have already given up on their own dreams so feel the need to discourage yours.
October 6, 200718 yr Study. It will make you more confident. If you know the stuff, you have less to worry about. It's not like the teacher is going to yell surprise and hand you the test for next chapter. Just stay cool and convince yourself that you know what you're doing.
October 6, 200718 yr Remember that a single test or quiz will not determine your future, no matter what any teacher says. I go into major tests with that in mind, and I always do much better than the people who studied for weeks and weeks, obsessing over one dumb test.
