November 25, 200718 yr Yeah, it's a week late, but post what Jagex currently values the going rate of an item in the Duel Arena. How to do it: **Look at Post 11, Jonni's for a screen shot, the price is lower part of the screen** Go to the Duel Arena, enter into a duel with a friend and begin offering up different items for the wager (no need to accept or decline). Check the price the game considers the item is worth, write it down and post it here. Example: Beserker Ring - 2.54 Mill gp Rare items will be really nice if you can check em. ******************* ~~Rares~~ Green H'Ween Mask - 19.05 Mill gp Red H'Ween Mask-36.2 Mill gp Santa hat - 23.475 Mill gp ~~High Value Drops~~ Beserker Ring - 2.54 Mill gp Abyssal Whip - 1.6 Mill gp Ring of Wealth - 52.5k Crystal Key - 60.8k Ancient Staff - 95k Ammy of Glory - 60k ~~Barrows~~ Torag Helm - 231k Torag Body - 442.5k Verac Skirt - 431.75k ~~Treasure Trails~~ Green Boater - 75k Addy Kite(t) - 46.2k D'hide Chaps(g) - 125k ~~Fletching~~ Magic Log - 1050 ~~Herblore~~ Ranarr weed - 7660 3 dose Prayer - 8001 3 dose Super Restore - 8449 4 dose Anti-Fire Potion - 4220 ~~Armor~~ Full Rune - 184.666k ~~Food~~ Raw Shark - 800 Cooked Shark - 983 ~~Smith/Mining~~ Addy Ore - 1675 Mith Ore - 400 Addy Bar - 2910 Mith Bar - ~~Farming~~ Magic Seed 165k Yew Seed - 80k Calquat Seed - 42.5k Ranarr Seed - 29.5k Snap Seed - 38.5k Watermelon Seed - 2120 ~~Mage Training Arena~~ Beginner's Wand - 108k Apprentice Wand - 200k Battlestaff - 7660 ~~Misc~~ Crystal Seed - 190k ********************** Here's my theory: Jagex was already checking the going rate of items automatically. The system just looked at trades then used an algorithm to a) get a baseline price on an item to gp B) use that baseline to determine price of items that normally were bartered such as rares. No, they did not just scan the forums, as it would require man power instead of computer power, and with computer power they could track trades over ALL the servers to get a real player based average price with completed trades. By the way, I bet this was one reason they did away with unids. Unids were messing up the algorithm since you get players buying Ranarrs at 1k each then selling them for much more. Now that's not the case with grimy herbs. Oh, and it'll be cool to see what the prices become after the Grand Exchange. So for now, let's see the results (as seen by Jagex) both before and after. November 25, 200718 yr If it is going to take into account the selling prices in the GE, then it will take the average selling price.
November 25, 200718 yr Your "method" will not work due to people giving items away or swapping them for other items. Not sure how they do it, but I assume they have a number of people monitoring the prices of pretty much every item in the game.
November 25, 200718 yr Author It's not "my method", it's an assumption merited out by posts by Jagex. No offense, but the rare "give away" will have minimal impact on the millions of legitimate trades, so it's reasonable to say the prices shown at the Duel Arena are actual player traded values. But hey, don't take my word for it. Go to the arena, put up some offers, write them down and post them here. If I can get on my computer at home, I'd try it myself. November 25, 200718 yr Author Killer, I'm not looking for forum prices. In the Duel Arena, when you stake, it gives a DEFINATE price that Jagex thinks the item is worth (based off tracked player trades I'm sure). Pretty interesting results, too bad I don't have any rares save for santas to check out. November 25, 200718 yr maybe we should check these prices after GE is out. to see if they changed as well. if they were set prices... also, you still do lose rares as they are not valued 20m+, i feel this is a bad move not for the small amount of people who die with rares, but for those who want to stake rares. im not saying that because i want high staking back, but because jagex wight be walking a line if they keep it how it is. and if they change it to player prices. that would be weird.
November 25, 200718 yr Author I do not doubt that they will change the saved item system to apply to Grand Exchange calculated player prices in due time. Perhaps as soon as a month from now. Likely you'd have the option of using alchemy or GE prices to determine saved items. Course, Barrows will be an interesting circumstance. See, the helms are usually the most expensive as they are saved last of the 4. Therefore, they'd be the first saved if the GE drop were used. Which would then make the helms start being cheaper (as you would not need to buy another) moving another barrow item to be worth more. Wonder where that would balance out? November 25, 200718 yr This KB article: http://www.runescape.com/kbase/viewarti ... cle_id=205 Says at the end: Note that the distribution of drops is based on the market value of items (as determined by players trading) rather than the shop price. So, yes, you are correct.
November 25, 200718 yr Hmm, I have a crazy idea that could push the determined price down. For example, have a player trade a mask to a trustworthy friend for 1 gp. The friend trades the mask back for 1 gp. Keep repeating the process. ARENAscape: Baratus [AS] max hit: 166 with Moon Battle Hammer ixfd64 [AS] max hit: 116 with (untitled spell #2)

Be nice to see the average price of items before and after GE. With things such as Party hats it would make a difference. For example the other week I borrowed my friend's red hat and gave it back to him after a few minutes. Say that 5 other people sold a red hat for 200M each, that's 1B total for SEVEN trades when it should be FIVE. So instead of the "average" being 200M it'd be 1B/7 = 143M average. Of course those number are probably way off and I'm sure that more party hats than that are traded. But they'd on do the average over a short period of time to deal with the changing economy. Probably only a few days at a time.
November 25, 200718 yr I'm gonna do nats in a sec EDIT: 310 wo0t Don't you know the first rule of MMO's? Anyone higher level than you has no life, and anyone lower than you is a noob. People in OT eat glass when they are bored.
November 26, 200718 yr they prolly won't do averages, probably more of a "manual" set price after analyzing the market for the item.
November 26, 200718 yr Market Price seems very easy to determine from Jagex's point of view. All it is is simultaneous linear equations. Trade 1: Whip + 7 Glories = 2.02 million Trade 2: Glory = 60k Therefore: Whip + 7*60k = 2.02 million The only limit is the processing power available. Also, by using standard deviation, any "gifts" will automatically be thrown out.
November 26, 200718 yr This is a very usefull idea to put up onto the forums, I have never been to the *new* Duel Arena so I had a question. Does the average price according to Jagex in the Duel Arena change? Like if A Blue Partyhat was worth 600 Million in player trade one day then dropped down to 450 Million a few days later, would the Duel Arena average price fluctuate?
November 26, 200718 yr Author Seeing that in the RSOF Item Forum, there's a Sticky for the Item Price Guide (initially created by Tomisme, now maintained by G3m). What that means is that Jagex can now put up a Knowledge Base article that "updates" weekly the average player prices based of Grand Exchange trades. Then again, it could also prevent "noobs" from putting up their items for too low a price with a warning such as putting up 28 coal for 160 gp each "Are you sure, the item you're putting up for sale has averaged 205 gp each in the last week". November 26, 200718 yr I personally like the set prices since I am a terrible merchanter. However, won't the grand exchange get rid of any use for the shops? :-k

November 26, 200718 yr The GE will change alot of these prices, and most likely make merchanting very difficult if not wipe it out completely. also alot of Jagex's set prices are alot higher than the player market's value. Here's what i predict will happen when the GE comes out... Lots of players will place their items for much higher than the market value, and then some smart merchants will place their products for slightly lower than the others, and make a decent profit before the prices settle at where they are now, or possibly lower. 99 Fletching 99 Attack 99 Constitution 99 Cooking 99 StrengthGamertag: H8tebringer
