Course he can, silly. I'm sure, since he has obviously lost all his mind and manners, that he's going to have lots of fun spamming you with QC

Caught in the crossfire I guess

Collateral damage

Think about this, Jagex band and/or permanently mutes a ton of players, lots of high leveled people. But lets think about what reasons.

Improper language. Honestly, who in todays' world doesn't swear occasionally? Jagex rule breaking (account sharing etc.). These have no effect on real people. They didn't do something horrible. Sure, they should be banned for it, but they're still normal people.

They're still normal people.

I know a ton of respectable people that have been punished by Jagex, but you can't judge their entire character on that. Look at Muggi; he was a bug abuse ban. That's not so terrible that he should never ever have any rights whatsoever (ever :anxious: ). I don't know why some of you are so vehement about Jagex's rules like that. Obviously I would never break any of their rules, here I am with almost 4 years of playing, and I've never had a black mark. But the people have broken the rules aren't worthless.

Amen to that! I have some very good friends in game that are mutes, some that have been banned, heck, even I have owned a black mark (appealed it). Nothing is wrong with these people, I suppose if the people that disagree might want to hear one extreme. People who break rules in real life are jerks (Sorry Ghandi!)

On topic: indeed, these worlds are quite nice and easier on the mutes :)

off topic: man these smileys look awkward... :?

It's what I do

I used to disagree with you, but being muted is not meant as a punishment, as most players think. It is meant to stop that player from being rude to another player.

What I don't understand is what this world really does. It is 100% similar to all other worlds, except you cant talk without quick chat. Why not just label it "guick chat" on the world select page, as is done with minigames, trading, ect? It would acheive the same thing it is doing now; allowing the mutes to use one world together.

I am not a skiller, but i do some skills.

I find sometimes thinking of what it would be like to be a mute, world 160 gives me the chance if I ever feel like it.

Hey, I'm sure that the vast majority of muted people are just wonderful in real life. They probably eat all their vegetables, help old ladies cross the street and always show up at the time they say they will. Who friggin' cares?

In RS, you use vulgar language and/or be a general pain to other people playing the game then you deserve to be muted. It's as simple as that and it's the price to be paid. The game isn't an an outlet to hide behind the relative anonymity of your character and act like a jerk. Maybe that doesn't necessarily speak of how a person is in real life but when you are playing this game, it is how you are viewed and you should be held accountable for your actions.

So anything I said previously wasn't a personal attack. I don't care what the OP is like in real life. In RS, he sounds like he must have been jerk and quite honestly, he's probably lucky to still be able to play the game. The fact the qc worlds have come along and given him a way to communicate with others just like him is great for him which is the point he was making.

"101 647" = "lol gay"; something you can't even say normally.quote]

Never thought of that.

Come to my Clan chat (I'm there if I'm online) if you wish to borrow a Green H'ween mask, Blue H'ween Mask, Red H'ween Mask, or Santa for a reasonable price.

Wait, was that referring to me? Because I agree with that, and have said it on several occasions.

Because people who only want to QC won't get yelled at by others, and a lot of the people who are scared of free chatters.

He might not be a total jerk, but there has to be SOMETHING wrong when you get 13 blackmarks... I mean, they can't all be jagex mistakes. If it were 2, maybe 3 I'd believe the player is honest, and it's just Jagex giving wrongly blackmarks. But 13

And why would you ever say lol gay? (doesnt really matter, but I was wonder bout that :-))

Pretty nice for all the muted people, I think they might not allow you to use numbers because people would use them to say anything they'd like, with 1337speak and similar ways... Including bad things which is why they were muted in the first place...

like 4$$ could be seen as abusive use of numbers and sign by the Jagex people ;)

...Silver

I'd like to see a quick chat line "I'm muted" incase mutes go on regular worlds (clan events or something) and people scream that them to talk using normal chat.

Agreed.

Yes, obviously quick chat is good for mutes but useless for regular players.

I thought mutes were purely for verbal abuse? Surely scammers and people asking for pws are banned rather than muted...

If I hadn't stopped using my only muted character like a year or so ago I am sure this would be good for me.

As of yet quick chat only annoys me when I press enter twice when typing something fast and it brings up the quick chat options when I've already typed half the next sentence before realising. Very annoying when talking with friends, I am now disadvantaged for typing fast.

Jagex mutes people so they can't offend anybody, not so they can't talk

that doesn't mean i don't consider it a punishment. this game isn't much if you can't talk to people, may as well be single player then. i use this game to talk a lot, especially with clanchat now. being that i give out mutes as well, i consider it a punishment.

it certainly seemed a punishment to me when i was muted. i wasn't worried about the demodding, i'll do my volunteer job when i feel like it, but i want to talk no matter what. so therefore muting is a punishment, whether intended to be one or not.

The most interesting thing no one seemed to mention yet:

When you now sign up for RuneScape and declare your age as 13 or below, you will be allowed to register, but ONLY play on those quick-chat worlds.

Does this drive all young AND rule-breakers into the same place?

That would be so cool.

World 160 could be a phantom zone kinda prison thing.

It is a punishment. It's Jagex's way of saying "You can responsibly choose your words, so we're going to choose them for you".

And before the update you couldn't say anything, so it's not really a punishment.

Quickchat only worlds seem like a waste to me... mutes can communicate as well in them as in normal worlds. It's not exactly hard to figure out that a person in a regular world speaking only with quickchat is muted.

If you want privacy, turn public chat off. You'll never know the difference. ;)

I'd rather have more lootshare worlds tbh.

And before the update you couldn't say anything, so it's not really a punishment.

having free speech being taken away isnt a punishement?

adicolorz.png

~I agree with your point of view. They muted me 10 days ago, and talking is HAAAAAAARDDDDD!!! (I made a thread in Suggestions about updates to the QC system, btw =).~

Yes...It is. Before the update it was "You can't responsibly choose your words, so we're just going to assume you have nothing worth saying".

I like quick chat for muted people. I believe that they shouldn't be able to have freedom to say what they want, since they broke the rules, but they SHOULD be able to communicate somehow. With that being said, there's no point to quick chat only worlds.

There are no positives to it, only negatives. Your friend's that HAVEN'T broken the rules and aren't muted can't contact you without having to resort to the robot talk.

What is one positive that the quick chat worlds gives that you can't get from a normal world? And please don't say "knowing there's a good chance the other person is muted." because that's not a positive aspect, at ALL.

Glad you're happy though.

Man, I really do love Runescape, and I'm sure if it was a real person I would of asked it to marry me by now.

Honestly, mutes didn't deserve something this elaborate. I mean, if you want to talk, don't get muted in the first place. It's not terribly difficult....... :?
