I'm in a really big forrest fire

Ok, there have definatly been bigger, but this is definatly the largest forrest fire in Nova Scotia ever (or atleast since humans have been here). Anyways, mid afternoon last friday the brush fire started and by Saturday afternoon was over 12 km long and 3 km wide. It was fueled by winds gusting up to 100 km/h for 2 days so there were no ground crews fighting the advance, yesterday we had 1 water bomber and 5 helicopters fighting the fire with some ground crews attacking the rear of the fire. Today, most of the helicoptors were recalled to New Brunswic to fight fires there, but Quebec sent another water bomber and there is still atleast 1 helicoptor fighting this fire (the other 6 Nova Scotia helies would be fighting other small fires around the province).

Anyways, I live on the only road that is not under eveacuation standby that has not already been put under mandatory evacuation. The winds have finaly died down and with 2 water bombers making runs that are 5 minutes at most, they are making good progress even if they still can't really controll the advance of the fire.

I have taken over 150 pictures of the fire and shall upload some of the highlights. The pictures do not really do the real thing justice but some are spectacular non the less.

An apology, I had no idea the picutres are this big since viewing programs scale them down. I am NOT uploading them again so you can save them or deal with it I guess.

Untill you get to the last 4 pictures there are NO LARGE CLOUDS IN THE SKY! its almost ALL smoke!

A little scary being nearly surrounded, but we have been lucky with not having to be evacuated. We have the boat ready to go in the water in the event some huge gust of wind causes out escape route to disapear but were still a good distance away. We have also been lucky about the lack of smoke so no breating difivulties here.

Wow, hope you get lucky and it doesn't get to you, I have a friend who lives in California who was in a forest fire, he was fine but some of his friends lost houses.

I like that you put up large pictures, I think I'm going to make the 5th or 6th one my desktop if you don't mind. The ones at night look great as well.

I'm safe, and my house is safe even if the fire gets close. I live on what is nearly an island and with the water bombers filling in our lake and with a hyrant conected to a pond on our road, theres almost no chance of the fire reaching us without some major winds. The fire is dying, and there letting some people back to there homes now. They think it was started behind an elementry school so that would be some stupid little kids playing with matches who didn't have the sense to stomp on a match when they dropped it. If thats what is was then they better live with some pretty big guild for the rest fo their lives since they definatly got at least 2 houses burned to the ground and many more probably damaged.

I guess I should fix the pics since they are rediculesly large. Will take about 5 minutes at least.

I'm fairly sure that when I transfered the pics I might have gotten a couple wrong. ANyways I'll see if I can get some more of the real fire.

Quite amazing what a little fire behind an elementary school can become lol.

Anyways, I think I'm lucky enough to live so far from the New Bruwnswick fires that we see no smoke :P. I think the fires are much in the south, like ppl at Sussex/Fredericton/Moncton could see it?

Yeah, I've heard about that one, and I'm in BC =P

There have been a bunch of evacuations here too, it's seeming to be a bad season for forest fires... But not as bad as the Kelowna one, lol. That was HUGE.

I hope you get out of this okay, it could be pretty bad for you if you end up having to get evacuated...

My relatives have been repeatedly evacuted from their homes in California due to forrest fires.

Some of those are pretty cool pics, btw but I'm sure you have other things to worry about.

Good luck.

The area where you live is nice <3: Done here in London (the UK one) it dirty and crap-riddled.

Atleast nobody was injured

Yet.

We have fires here all the time, only they're grass fires. Burn themselves out within the day, even if they're large.

Good luck not becoming a Randox-kebab.

catch it now so you can like it before it went so mainstream

*Remembers cousin setting an acre of field on fire*

There's no such thing as regret. A regret means you are unhappy with the person you are now,

and if you're unhappy with the person you are, you change yourself. That

regret will no longer be a regret, because it will help to form the new,

better you. So really, a regret isn't a regret.

It's experience.

get all the vials of water in your bank and use on fire.

USE YOUR GEYSER TITAN

get a list of all people with 99 firemaking in the area.

Have them detained and waterboarded.

Well anyway, that must be some scary crap dude, being surrouned by a huge fire. If that did happen, make sure to get Klarense to give you a boat to get to the center of the lake.

With buckets?

I'm glad you're safe Randox.

Some buckets is better than no buckets. Think of the couple of trees you could save and maybe some racoon like creature

We had a huge one burn right by my house. It was literally by it. Yours seems pretty far away.

My house is below the smoke line. My work is even closer to it as I work at the grocery store by it. The fire went on pretty badly for 3 days. It was started by a contractor. I still had to work even when people weren't allowed in the grocery store. It rained down ash constantly.

That was crazy :|

EDIT: The video I found on YouTube was not filmed by me. Kind of weird, though, because I know exactly what roads those guys are driving on. They drove by my sister's house at the time.
