Fleetsy
JaGeX's team is already split between FunOrb and RuneScape. With Mech & Next, it'll be four games. I hope that they hire more people, because otherwise one might get left behind... Achieved 99 Woodcutting on 12/06/

Having a new game will not mean that RS is updated any less. Mercifull <3 Suzi "We don't want players to be able to buy their way to success in RuneScape. I hope that they hire more people, because otherwise one might get left behind... MechScape's release will mean more support requests are required, but not more developers - they've had a separate development team working on it since 2005. In that sense the release will mean Jagex can start recouping the costs of MechScape so that it isn't subsidised by RuneScape subscriptions. And any money going into technology development (e.g. new graphics mode) due to MechScape directly benefit RuneScape players as they share tools and core coding between projects. Also, you are talking about NextScape and MechScape as if they were two projects - it seems clear that NextScape is just the codename for MechScape. Made0f12une
Interesting... It looks like March 2009 is a month to look forward to. I wonder how much (or little) this new game's going to be hyped; most MMO's tend to build quite a bit of hype as they draw near release, however Jagex seem to adopt the quiet approach about these sorts of things. Things seem to be a little different now Mr. Iddison is in the company though, perhaps we'll get some substantial information about the game before its release. They actually announced RS2 before it was released, had a Beta test, and gave us screenshots. If I had to guess, they'll give an actual release information, screenshots, then a beta for paying members. I may test it out, but that's probably about as far as I'll go with the game. ^^ClicK^^"I backed my car into a cop car the other dayWell he just drove off sometimes life's ok...Alright already we'll all float onAlright don't worry we'll all float on" - Isaac BrockDays Hunting:4 - Kingly Imps Caught:2Money Earned: 4.5-5m

Latinoking
Is it me? Or is Jagex trying to push players to Next(Merchscape) by not updating PVP as much as they should have. I'm not liking this. It means Runescape will be dead in two years. I put a heck of a lot of my life into this game. x_x I sorta feel the same way, I meet a lot of cool people in my Runescape adventurers, but the new updates Jagex pulled out caused a majority to leave. palas1
Well I hope it's some kind of SF because I like SF (I also like history lol). And to all that are saying that this maybe means end of runescape, I really don't think so, runescape will be remain as long as people play it. I just hope you don't have to buy it on CD or something like that. :( Or maybe they mentioned something about that somewhere, like will it be playable with only browser, you would have to buy an CD, or you will have to download it? Joshthegod
if it runs on super low specs like RS than i'll DEFINATELY be trying it. cause as of right now i dont have a grand PC like i did when i was playing CS:Source, WoW, etc...
roanlo
I heard of this a few months ago. Now i know a release time. I wonder if it'll be like AE's Mechscape in a way- just a MMO. Also someone posted a News article in England or something a few months ago(last year i think). They said that they would continue developing Runescape for the next 5years. Or in other words, contine updating runescape for 2/2.5 years after Mechscape has been realesed.
Ultimakomoto
I wonder if it'll be like AE's Mechscape in a way- just a MMO. That's MechQUEST, you fool! I've played that game (and hate it, how is it so difficult to do 10 when enemies do 20!?) If it IS (on the off-chance), except to see giant mecha and light blades. Need a new signature....perhaps... me
It seems like Jagex are already talking about NextNextScape... http://www.myth-games.com/news3416.htm At the GameHorizon conference in Newcastle last week, Geoff Iddison, from Jagex, the makes of Runescape, was part of a panel about the future of games - things like user-generated content, and different billing systems such as micro-transactions. He spoke about the technology behind Runescape, and also revealed that the company, who have recently launched a casual games portal, are also working on a new MMO jokingly (we assume) called 'NextScape' which will launch in 2009. They also have plans for a third MMO sometime in 2010 "We've got an infrastructure behind Runescape which is the real silver of the Jagex, the value of the company," Iddison said. "It's not the game, the game is going to come and go." The forthcoming MMO will likely use a subscription based model, similar to Runescape with some free to play features and others that you need to pay to get access to. The 2010 one may use micro-transactions. Iddison was quick to stress that they will not introduce micro-transactions in Runescape, as they feel it would un-balance the game and alienate their existing players. The conference was very developer focused, so they didn't talk about what the forthcoming games would be, but it was interesting to hear them mention the plans even in passing. Matey
Bloody hell, another MMO? And just to confirm, micro-transactions mean that users will be able to pay for something at a very cheap price? Mark_560
Interesting find - I'm actually quite glad it's not being released until March 2009. Too many games to choose from and complete until then, otherwise. :P
Lightshayde
Runescape..Mechscape..Nextscape? What's next? I'd say NextScape but that already exists o.O Lol, I think Jagex is pushing it now, with all those Scapes. EDIT: there's some stupid grammatical mistakes, you'd expect an online newspaper to watch things like that... Bhind, per cent? I believe that the name 'nextscape' is simply a placeholder. After all, Jagex registered mechscape.com but not nextscape.com. And nextscape sounds pretty stupid. Avatar by Unoalexi!

MechQuest is terrible, and it's NOT an MMO. It's an RPG with an optional battle-other-players element. MechScape, on the other hand, will probably come out to be like RuneScape with sci-fi elements rather than medieval elements. Avatar by Unoalexi!
