More like 100%, thats why I like spy-checking and ambushes from behind with the backburner. Sooo many crits.

 

 

 

Anyway, just got the Ambassador in the funniest possible way. I was attacking on part 1 of Goldrush, and I had just taken out a teleporter entrance and backstabbed a Sniper in the escape. I decided to hide in the ditch outside of the tunnel to recharge my cloaking for a second go. I was charged, and decided to go for it. I disguised and uncloaked, just as a spy pyro uncloaked in front of me! He had chosen a spot an inch in front of me to recharge :lol:

 

 

 

I backstabbed him, and got A Cut Above and Counter Espionage, which gave Spy Milestone 1 and The Ambassador.

 

 

 

God I love this game :thumbsup:

And why is that? Lets look at the pros and cons.

 

 

 

Regular flamethrower.

 

 

 

Pro - Has compression blast, useful for defending control points and clearing sticky bombs.

 

Con - No crit bonus from behind.

 

 

 

Backburner.

 

 

 

Pro - Crit bonus from behind.

 

Con - No compression blast, leaving you vulnerable to rockets and sticky bombs.

 

 

 

Since I've never found a use for the compression blast, but have been successful with the backburner on multiple occasions, then I don't see any reason not to use it.

The compression blast is good for things like cart pushing; if there's a bunch of stickies (like there always is), just clear them out easy. And if you get good enough to reflect rockets properly, soldiers are suddenly so much easier to deal with.

Compression blast also puts out fire, saving teamates who arent able to get to a med pack.

 

It can also disorient opponents so you can blast them then axe them before they realize what happened.

 

 

 

Compression blast is overall more useful.

And, if you're low on health and need to find a medkit, you can quickly ignite and blast and enemy and they'll be disoriented so you can run, and also burning.

 

 

 

Got the best Huntsman taunt kill yesterday on Hoodoo. My team lost, and there was a spy in our spawn shooting everyone. I taunted, and he ran straight into my arrow while trying to kill someone else. Stunned, then pulled out for the victory. He was non too happy, my team thought it was great.

I remember people on my server I hang out at talking about how to find a good pyro. We figured the answer was "does he use regular flamethrower?"

 

 

 

Compression blast is a lot more useful than crits from behind. A lot.

You're missing my point. It's personal preference. I only use pyro for spy checking and ambushing cart pushers, so why would I equip the normal one? With the way that I use it, I just have more use for the backburner. You acn't say that anything is better than something else because it depends on how you play the class.

 

 

 

Edit: Btw, what is the downside to the Ambassador? I've played with it for a bit and it seems to be just a way tougher version of the revolver. I think the reload may even be a little faster.

I've noticed you take longer to fire. With regular revolver it may of took x seconds to deplete all your bullets in a row, while with the Ambassador it takes x+y seconds.

 

 

 

Basically, you're not relying on fast bullets to kill them but with your accuracy.

Ah, the crucial detail. We were talking about playing pyro on a regular basis, not just for a singular purpose. You basically play pyro just for the occassion when the backburner would be useful, which doesn't come about as often as the compression blast during normal play.

Don't even go into that, before we were debating it's usefulness in certain situations but now you're just acting like an RS pker. It's just a worse gun. I mean, if you use it obviously it's not a problem -- just saying that backburner W+M1 pyros aren't exactly useful unless you're just playing against a bunch of idiots.

Actually, with proper use of the axetinguisher, the backburner is rendered obsolete. Even heavies will go down quickly, possibly faster- 2 swings. Everything else is down in 1.

If they were smart you probably wouldnt get a crit at all. But I have to admit a lot of TF2 users arent very smart.

 

 

 

But even though you talk about a hit and run style I still think its better to use the regular flamethrower. You light them on fire then compression blast them so 1. they're on fire and 2. not on the cart anymore.

Got the dead ringer last night.

 

 

 

It's hard to use, but so very satisfying. I also started using higher sensitivity a few days ago, and it's starting to show with the dead ringer, when a pyro spychecks me, I sin around uberquick, backstab, and open the dead ringer to cloak away and extinguish myself. Awesome weapon.

Back burner basicly goes of the idea of flanking from behind where you will not need a compression blast. You dont have to be any good to realise you are going to get flanked that way by a pyro .. Compression blast for me personally is useless as I find using a pain in the backside and the 200 ammo in the gun is gone a lot faster with it.

Same round. One of my better days. All around, too; I had a fairly good run as a sniper on Hoodoo after this, had a +2 K/D most of the time, but broke even at the end because I suicide rushed trying to touch the cart at overtime.

 

 

 

Before both of those I was playing Turbine, took a teleporter out of the spawn into the vents. I actually got lost, then dropped down into the Intel room, where the blu intelligence was sitting right there. I grabbed it, ran back through the vents, dropped down and....wait a second.

 

 

 

"Holy crap! I'm running the wrong way!" The teleporter went to our base, not theirs like I thought, and the intelligence was feet from being captured, not feet from its original place. I made it all the way back, though.Everyone had a good laugh, the other team kept telling me "Uh, no you're not, keep running!" :lol:
