Contaminated water

Wow... my input on the story

At 11am this morning, I went to tesco (Biggest UK Supermarket branch) on my morning break for some lunch and literally EVERY trolley had bottles of water in, The isle where the water usually is, not 1 bottle to be seen. This is just amazing that noone was prepared to this, their preperation was to run down the local supermarket and grab as much water as they can. If this was a terrorist attack that effected the whole country, i dread to think what could have happened =/

Even the schools weren't prepared for it, many had to close.

Does anybody else live close enough to me to get affected?

Hah. :P

There was that one movie that was similar to this, something got into the water and it was deadly. Fortunately, the poison in the water contaminated here isn't as serious as the one in the movie. Yet, it still is pretty scary to think about.

I read the article once, and can't remember whether boiling water will get rid of the bug. But, if it does, I think the affect won't be too large on the population. Sure, it will be inconvenient.

I just hope the poison is removed soon so that the people can go along living their lives normally without the fear of sickness.

Ya there were people saying on the radio news and stuff that boiling will kill the bug, but if this was a terrorist attack on a much larger scale think what could happen  Still pretty scary that this little stomach bug in tap water has made such a big impact on the population =/

V for Vendetta? Haha, if you're not thinking of that movie, it certainly happens in it. It even happened in the UK which is why I thought of it right away.

No, it isn't V for Vendetta. It is bugging me now that I can't remember the movie. It starts out with this guy splashing water on his face in the morning and the faucet dripping. He goes into his living room and his friend is baked on the couch... Its a three perspective story or something like that. There is an Indian guy in it, who's family owns a grocery store. It is about what would happen if terrorists poisoned the water... Good gosh I can't remember... Anyone know it?

At least it only causes diarrhea(sp?) and upset stomachs. Nothing lethal.

The contamination is probably just a tree growing into a pipe which allowed the bug to get into the water supply, nature for the win.

You really don't know that bad diarrhea CAN kill do you?

Someone in history, I think it was actually Francis Drake, died because of severe diarrhea. Skatedog, it does kill, because the it uses up so much water in your body (hence the liquidity) and causes severe dehydration.

The way the article described it, it was just some mild stomach bug. Who knows if that's just a blanket statement for all the cases though.

why run to buy bottled water? even says in the article "boil tap water" how hard is that?

But that's actual work, you expect them to make an effort? How dare you! /sarcasm.

Seriously, though, with bottled water as unpure as it has been revealed to be, boiling tap water is the best (and the obvious given) solution.

You are smart, because you are a person. A person is smart. People, on the other hand, are paranoid idiots.

Amen.

It doesn't affect me, but I do believe that there are these amazing devices that create heat without fire...uhh..STOVES! The only real problems are the people who drank the water before they heard the news, and hypochondriacs.

Diarrhoea is potentially lethal... clearly you've never heard of cholera.

Isnt that dysentry? where you loose too much water through vomiting and diarrhoea and you die?

Both cholera and dysentary give you the same expectation of death on the toilet.

This doesn't affect me since I live in USA, but I don't drink water at all. I don't know why people like it, the flavor of it makes me gag. However, I will drink lemonade and grape juice + stuff that has water properties.

Is that even possible?

My carbon footprint is bigger than yours...and you know what they say about big feet.

Yes it is, although very very unhealthy. Someone I know nearly died from dehydration because he was drinking soda/juice and never water.

^^ How does that happen? I mean it seems weird to me. Thats like against the fabric of nature. Plus water doesn't even taste like anything.
