The only people who tell you that you can't do something are those who have already given up on their own dreams so feel the need to discourage yours.

Oh, I agree. So long as the political opinions you have are yours (and hence merely happen to allign more with one party) and not those of the party, then I'm fine with that. The whole issue of party loyalty suggests voting purely because of the party, and not because of what the voter actually thinks.

I don't believe you should follow every single thing the party says - you still have your own opinions. But pretending like you don't have to follow a certain party to make your opinions known is pretty foolish.

In this country, we have two major parties - Labour and the Conservatives. I am a socialist. The Labour party sure as hell isn't socialist, but it is the only party whose views I agree with which stands a chance of forming a government.

Sure, maybe on principle I should vote for Respect, but this is politics. All split-off groups like Respect do is weaken the left-wing. It'd be counter-productive for me to vote them.

I agree with all of that, I was just saying I don't like the idea of forming your opinions purely based on prepackaged party policy. I can see where bringing voting into what I was trying to say confused things.

Yeah the Democrats are pretty far from my real beliefs...technically the average democrat is center right/dead center. If I were voting on issues alone, I would have voted for Kucinich, or Nader...even they aren't my ideal candidates on issues alone. Won't find candidates that match your ideals on issues alone though, and you especially won't find a party that matches your issues alone.

The Greens are much closer to me...but the fact is America is a conservative country with some moderates thrown in, and some liberals sprinkled on top. Major parties will appeal to the majority of the country.

I tend to be the most liberal person I know.

Same, except for my one friend Caitlin. I thought there would be more people to identify with when it came to politics at college (as colleges tend to be more liberal), but I find Virginia Tech to be more centrist than liberal. Even online, like in the DC vs. Heller case...it was me vs. tip.it lol (except for Hoffman).

I feel so out of place sometimes :?

Try living in San Francisco dude. :(

My carbon footprint is bigger than yours...and you know what they say about big feet.

These are the times that try mens souls...

Theres not that much wrong with Oklahoma. Sure there may be the occasional overzealous religious person but thats better than that gay church or all the weirdos.

rushrock, are you right at Ghandi's spot? Or near it? Can't quite remember, but I think he was around there...You're right where I thought I would be (well, shift a bit more left).

Am I? I didn't take the time to check. :P

'My results, although I'm a bit confused--

Would anyone care to explain it to me? ::'

Well, you are near the left-wing, which means that you embrace change. Libertarians and leftists believe that there should be more of an equal distribution of wealth/land and supplies, and that power should be more in the control of the people than in the hands of a centralized power. America embraces many of these ideals.

On the other side of the graph, the right-wings, have a more controlling, personal approach. They believe more that what you have is yours, and should remain yours, not be split up among other people. And they also believe in a more conservative view, and more of a central power controlling things. You can think of a monarchy or aristocracy as right-side (or for something maybe more familiar - Nazism.
