____
Just for those who think that China would win a war against the USA, let me throw a few statements out there. * In our age where a war of this magnitude would be fought, troop size would mean little to nothing. What does matter is technology. * The U.S. is way ahead of any Chinese missile or air force technology. * And...to top it off.... Military Budgets from this past year U.S.~ Close to 600billion China~ 80billion U.S. win \Yea... they win when a budget of a 7.5x China can barely scrape ahead of what China holds in armour, air craft and navy  Gotta love how all that money is being spent with nothing to show for it. blosssom2581
In modern day wars, like that in Iraq, is an asymmetrical warfare, a stronger enemy can be defeated by a weaker force, through attrition. This has already been shown in the past, especially in Korean War and Vietnam War, and the ongoing Wars in Iraq. In case of a war, of course, the price will be high for both sides. Although USA got nice tanks, ships, equipment and aircraft, remember, they can still be defeated. tanks can get blown up by nothing more than a simple anti tank mine. Ships can get sunk by WWII vintage torpedoes, as shown in the Falkland's war in 1980s, and aircraft can be shot down by simple AA guns, and more importantly, they can be destroyed on ground, by sabotage. I don't think USA will win China in any front assault, nor vice versa. Currently taking a break from Runescape
henman888
I think the USA would win a war aginst China because it doesn't matter about the size of the army but about how well equiped they are and America has better technology.

Say that to Polish Resistance who managed to hold off an entire tank division when they had no AT weapons, and were both beaten by numbers and firepower for a long, long time. RichieMcD
should we bring allies into this equation? A war of such magnitude between say China and America I don't think anyone would join either side. It would be a extremely close war and choosing sides could mean the annihilation of your country, while staying neutral would probably have very little repercussions other than slightly pissing off the leaders of the winning country. A country could completely change sides in a war of such size. Britain and most of western Europe are allies with America now but if a giant war happened they could easily change sides to China as China has relatively easy access to them and Western Europe relies on China for food and day to day items. If China turned against Western Europe we would suffer great shortages in common items.
Nero
should we bring allies into this equation? Any allies of America could easily be equaled by that of China. I think we're all stuck in the whole of idea of Power = Military though. @Kranked: Russia would probably ally with China if America was the aggressor, and with that I'm sure Iran would increase their pressure on US troops in Iraq & Afghanistan since Iran is close allies with Russia atm. If they chose to band against China in a war, the EU would shoot itself in the foot and destroy it's own economy. A huge majority of consumer goods, clothes and other goods used in the EU are made in China. Sort of disagree about food though, Europe only imports a few food items like rice and some other grains from China. Domestic production of food is strongly encouraged and funded in the EU, so even if there was a war, at least Europeans would stay alive (but with a ruined economy). Ye I see what you mean about the food. Either way if we went with or against China and China won the economy would most likely crash since so much revolves around America. The economies in Western Europe are suffering just at the thought of America going into Recession. So either way if Europe went with or against China we'd most likely end up with a destroyed economy. Lenticular_J
Agreed, if either China or America goes down, the world is pretty much screwed either way. Of course, China is changing rapidly. I want to see that new Discovery Channel documentary, "That People's Republic of Capitalism." I've been reading a lot of articles, and it's very true. China is very much a capitalistic society this days. catch it now so you can like it before it went so mainstream

Lenticular_J
I suppose you could say that. Although from what I've read, there's a middle class growing fairly rapidly. catch it now so you can like it before it went so mainstream
Wisp
China would not go to war with the united states, because they rely on us to buy their products, and we rely on them for their products as well. They would damage our economy, and them going to war would destroy theirs. Hegemony-Spain

No. China is getting stronger because its economy is industrializing, of course it would be centered on the common people. EDIT: Whoops double post. Wrong, China produces products for the whole world and while war with America would damage their economy it would not destroy it. On the other hand if products from China stop coming to America, America is in big trouble.

Millard
No. China is getting stronger because its economy is industrializing, of course it would be centered on the common people. EDIT: Whoops double post. China is has already mostly industrialised, the reason a number of Chinise people are still in poverty is the fact that the goverment don't give a [cabbage] about its people. And industrialisation nowadays is not centered around the "common" (Working class) people but more around the middle class.
