"I want a girlfriend/boyfriend", and other such relationship advice

Featured Replies

For a date between two people already in a relationship, movies are fine. It's just the whole movie and dinner thing is incredibly cliche'd, and girls really don't enjoy it so much. Most guys are really uncomfortable at the whole fancy dinner thing, too.

The last couple of dates (three different girls, three dates, I guess) I've been on have consisted of going to one of a couple ice cream places (I payed for one girl, because she didn't have money and I didn't wanna bust the whole thing, but I made her pay me back in kisses. Lame, but it worked.) and with one girl to a coffee place where a couple of my brother's friends work (tip: if you know the people that work there, and can show it and get special treatment, the girl will LOVE it), then we ran around whatever park was nearby.

We had it right when we were seven, you know. Mess with the girl, she chases you. I'll be studying elementary school kids more once my sister has kids.

  • Okay so I'm pretty confident at least 2 of you remember me and maybe .5 of you remember how my last post went. To recap, I went on the first date of my life and then a second one that went poorly.   T

ok so i have have a story that is kind of similar to one already posted here.

So i'm center snare and section leader of my schools drumline as a sophmore.

There is this girl on the flag line or color guard w/e you want to call it and i really like her.

I know she liked me at the end of last school year but i was dumb and didn't make a move.

Now that we went through our band camp and stuff it seemed like she still liked me but then there is theis new kid that it seems like she might like also.

Now this girl is my friend already and im not shy around friends but i'm not very confident when it comes to asking girls out and stuff.

Now school starts on tuesday and i'll see her again.Hopefully something happens but idk yet.

I'm not real sure how to approach this situation.I was jsut planning on to continue to be her friend and make her like me more then asking her out but idk whats gonna happen with the other guy.

Any advice at what i should do?

I had it that easy like 3-4 years ago, problem I had never considered dating or anything.

Seems to be back when my old man was in school it was a case of "Oi, we're gonna go out, end of discussion."

I doubt she is attracted to you any more, you've probably lost any sort of tension you might have had. BUT. High school girls don't pick up on it so good, and aren't very well in touch with their feelings. So if you can give them something, they might mistake it for that gut-level attraction. Which will be good, I guess.

So. Drop all contact with her. Drop her like she's hot. Don't speak a word to her until school. Even then, ignore her almost completely until or unless she starts looking at you (probably confusedly). Hike up your skirt and do it, sirrah!

The whole "become her closest friend and then she'll realize I'm perfect for her!" is only a part of crappy movies and Taylor Swift songs (Taylor Swift can pull it off because she's hot.). Even if you did end up with her, let's say two best friends got married. Especially if they got married young. Imagine how bored they'd be? They've all told all the stories they have, if they haven't experienced them all together that is, and they've known each other their whole lives. One of them would only be staying because they'd be scared of being alone, and the other is a comfortable presence that's always been in their lives. Yet neither of them would be happy.

Attraction and love are built on gut-level emotions that have to be built on tension. Attraction can start out with a meeting of eyes, but it has to be built upon swiftly and surely.

So, basically, you need to cut all contact with her, and start changing how you act around her. Whether you act really comfortable around her or really uncomfortable, you've got to act the complete opposite. She'll notice this change, and it will confuse her like mad crazy. She'll probably start changing how she acts too, acting more girly and flirty. Of course, if you're lucky, she'll jsut straight-up confront you and bust you on it - I like these girls. Not everyone does, though.

Anyways, I'm not gonna guarantee anything, because odds are you've already lost her. Plus, girls love new guys at school, they're different and mysterious, even if it's only for a short amount of time.

Hey, girls can like old school. Noticed the resurgence of interest in 60's and 70's stuff in the girl population? ;) It really depends on the girl, but sometimes just a straight-up confident approach like that will sweep her off of her feet. In any girl, it will probably interest her enough to warrant a date. It'd be hard to follow up on that if you aren't Mad Max, though

Also, I recently got a haircut. Well, I got alot of it cut. It was taking in Big W while I was with mum after my haircut. I really want to clean up my face too, should make me more noticeable to girls now, rather than the long haired emo-looking guy.

I have my first date ever in a few hours =P~ , i'm pretty nervous though. We're going to the movies, which I've heard isn't exactly the best thing. She's the one who suggested in anyways, so yeah. It shouldn't be awkward at all, we've known for a year and we're friends. Any advice?

Don't feel like at x moment you have to y. Most of the interaction will happen after the movies, why go to the movies if you just want to make out at the back? There are much cheaper places to do that, and more romantic at the same time.

If she suggested it, then you should be fine. Problem is that women might expect you to take control and make your own decision, but that's unlikely. I would seriously not advise you to pull the lame Yawn move, it doesnt work (well, it hasnt worked for me or any of my friends), come up with something shes unlikely to have seen before. Anyway, just have fun, even if you dont make a 'move'. If you don't make a move, make SURE that she has fun, if she finds you boring chances are that you wont be going out anytime soon.

Haha no way I'd do that yawn thing except as a joke  .

I'll be sure to make this as fun as possible :)

Just making sure. Also be confident and just relax. Although im sure you know those already.

I think I can do that, I talk to her alot as it is, so I'm confident around her.

Good haircut. I use this stuff called AcneFree Severe. It comes in this orange box, and thee are four steps. Use it twice a day. It works amazing. I used to use Proactiv, but this stuff blows it out of the water. I have absolutely no bad acne any more, just some irritated skin because I ran out of one of the steps recently. It comes with some extra stuff, too, that will basically keep a small part of your skin free of acne forever. I used to have it bad in between my eyes (horrible, horrible spot), haven't had anything there in weeks. Check it out, it costs about 30 dollars US at Walgreens. Dunno if they have those in Australia, but it's on Amazon.

Maleficus, sounds like a plan! Make sure to do something either after or before the movie though. You probably want a couple of hours of just fun interaction. If there's a neat little cafe or a park near to the movie theater, head there before or after, have some fun. There are also ways to get a girl to kiss you that might be neat for you to know, but you said it's your first date so just take it easy.

At the movie though, and afterwards, take some control. Preferably, just tell her what movie you're going to see. No buts. But you can take some input, sometimes it's hard not to. You sound pretty confident, just keep it up!

 I actually just got a really similar haircut. You might want to see a doctor about the acne, they can prescribe stuff to clear it right up when it's really bad like that. Shave though, and I recommend blond streaks in your hair

Try the NLP routine I posted a while back, girls love it. Play [bleep] marry kill and other games if you want for an 'our world conspiracy.'

Pointing out random guys you see, and telling her that he would be perfect for her is also fun.

About the whole hooking up in the movies thing, only do it if you really want. Personally I don't understand what It is about the sticky floors, crying babies and smell of grease that gets people so turned on in the movies but it's not for me unless I'm wound up from a dry streak.

I've actually used that yawn then arm around thing, (though I followed with C&F) and opened with the stupidest pick up lines I know. (You're 'No Parking' right? Just trying to guess your sign, Do you believe in love at first sight, or should I walk by again? etc etc) It can work because they know you're joking around. If it doesn't, who cares you're still having fun.

Haha I may end up doing some things like that. Plans changed a bit, it's now a double date because a friend of her's is going out with someone too but her mom wants someone else there; i'm hoping this will make it a bit more relaxed and fun. We;re seeing a romance movie (I let her pick what she wanted to see) and we're gonna meet up about an hour before to hang out for a bit (an hour and a half from now ::' . If i want to joke around and do that arm around thing, i've got an even better one. "Hey, did I tell you about those three fish I caught?" "the first was this big [hold hands about 6 inches apart]". "the next was this big [wider apart]", "and the third was thiiiiiiiiiiiiis [extend arm behing her and on her shoulder] big". Smooth 8-)

My date went very well (or so I thought, considering ti was was my first date XD). It was gonna be a double, but problems and the other people didn't show up (i'm glad, we were focused on each other the whole time :) ). We saw some romance movie (500 Days of Summer, surprisingly not bad), and then walked around the plaza for like an hour and half half talking and holding hands. I'm pleased ::' .

Better than my first date. Congrats, and I usually avoid double dates unless it's with someone I've just met, otherwise if, let's say, the other couple starts making out, it might make you and your date uncomfortable if you're not up to that point in your relationship yet. Plus it distracts your date from you, which early on, isn't a good thing usually.

Gah, my first date was awful. We went to the beach but she couldn't go into the water, so we pretty much just sat down and did nothing. She broke up with me the next day to go out with some other guy. Now she is a [bleep] (not being mean, but she is.) She lives with her bf and if they break-up she has to find a new bf so she has somewhere to stay, and she is living in a different state now too.

Haha Fo-Hawk, ladies love it! My only advice is shave the stache dude, trust me, most girls HATE mustaches. I know you've probobly just recently been able to grow it, I did the same thing for like a year when I was 14-15. But trust me, almost every girl i ever asked told me they hated it. Other than that great choice of hair girl wise  . Shame I can't pull off short hair, I love my long curls but it's hotter than hell this time of year.

I want to quote everyone above, but instead I'll just make a general comment.

First of all, sweet haircut, I did the exact same thing! (27" of hair to mowhawk)

Second: Gratz to the one on their first date, sounds like it went well, I wish you luck in the future :D

Third: My first date was pretty good, although awkward. We doubled with a couple that had already been going out 5 months, the guy being a good friend of mine and my date a good friend of my my friend's girl. Yes that made sense. All we did was hang out at the park though, a little on the boring side to be honest. Probably why we didn't work out like at all :-#

Fourthly: On a movie date, there's no need to make out at all. In fact I hate when girls make moves on me while I'm in the theatre. I paid 10$ friggin' dollars to see this film, I'm gonna see it!

...As for the "Yawn" move, I found that it works great minus the yawn. Seriously, just skip all the fake cover up stuff and just put your god damn arm around the poor women. It works just fine.

Fifthly: i can tell just by the past few posts that IamDan is a great flirt (assuming he takes his own advice). He's right, playing random games with girls is a great way to have fun, no matter how stupid it seems.

Sixthly: Lenticular, I find it creepy that you are studying elementary school girls.

but you have a point, the way they act is pretty interesting and actually COULD pertain to relationships. Do report to us with any findings ;)

Advice for guys: At movies, make the first move. I know for 95% of my dating life I was too shy to make a move, and just hoped my date would make a move. Most of the time, if the girl is going on a date with you, she's fine with you putting her arm around you, but as rpg said, skip the yawn. Unless you two are alone on a couch somewhere and you're joking, it's stupid.

Personally I advise avoiding movies, you goto them to watch a movie, not make out.

Lies! My hair naturally curves into a mohawk type-thing and it doesn't work. (Though it's proberly cause it looks fluffy, and isnt gel'd)

It's boys dammit! I mean. Errrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrr. Let's just forget I said anything.

My first date? I'm not totally sure if it was my first, but I probably went to the movies. Pretty much nothing happened. I was not cool. I would beat myself up if I saw that same myself.

Anyways, I don't have a particular hair style. I just cut it mighty short. Surprisingly, it can get some good points when everyone else has some skater hair or totally shaved gang head.

I start school again tomorrow... Sophomore ftw?

Anyway, this is the same girl I've posted about every time I've posted here.

She broke up with me in May, because her parents read some text I sent her or something... And I was flirting with one of my friends (yes a female) and I found out she liked me, I didn't like her; but anyway I asked out my ex again she said yes... But I broke up with her so I could try and sort this thing out with my friend... Hoping not to hurt my friend I hurt the girl that I love...

Anyway... I want to get back together with my ex, and she said she still thinks something is there... Problem is I think she really doesn't like me at the moment, her friends and family hate me... What do I do?

And how do I go back to school with her? I don't want her to think that I want to be "just friends"...
