What would be the best band?

dragoonson

Recommended Posts

Title does not say it all,so I'm forced to provide some explanation.Okay, you guys mostly listen to music played by bands, right? Now from those you listen to,assign some members into a band of your own.Like a "dream team" for bands.Mine would be:

Roy Khan (Kamelot)-Male Vocals

Anette Olzon (NightWish)-Female Vocals

Cliff Burton (Metallica)(Deceased)-Bass (So,in reality it would have to be...Steve Harris of Iron Maiden)

Jukka Nevalainen (NightWish)-Drums

Herman Li (DragonForce)-Guitar (Lead,right?)

Then we'd have Bruce [bleep]inson do back-up...

so i herd u liek devarts?

If you look at me and feel offended by my 666-ism,think.I could be just as offended by your "cross".

Amen, brother

Amen, brudda (referring to the 10th commandment)

That's impossible.

Haha, I love this! Maybe this would be the ultimate "classic rock" band - who knows? This is just me. I hope it's ok that not all of them are living... it would still be a brilliant band.

VOCALS - Would probably have to be Paul Rodgers (Free/Bad Company). He's got such a great soulful quality that fits well into so many styles

LEAD GUITAR - Dave Gilmour (Pink Floyd). He makes every single note mean something. You can be a great guitarist and play a million notes per second, but in my opinion you can be a better guitarist if you pour your heart into every note.

RHYTHM GUITAR - Rory Gallagher. He's an Irish blues guitarist and I put him here because he's one of my favourite musicians, and because I think if Gilmour's on lead then you can't have anyone else there.

BASS - This one's quite a hard one to decide, after some thought I'd say it'd have to be Geddy Lee (Rush) because he's just... awesome. Yes, he can sing as well and he's a BRILLIANT vocalist in his own special way, but I think he's my favourite bassist.

KEYS - Jon Lord (Deep Purple), no question. I don't think there's a single thing that this guy can't do on any keyboard instrument and I particularly love his organ work.

DRUMS - Well, who else but Bonzo? (Led Zep)... the first band I got into, the first drummer I noticed and in my opinion still the best.

I think I'd put Ian Anderson (Jethro Tull) in there for his amazing uniqueness, songwriting skills, flute work and general multi-talented awesomeness. Even if all these guys didn't bring the stage to life then Ian Anderson certainly would with his prancing around and doing all that stuff he does on the flute... wow.

Anyways, that would be MY ultimate band. I dunno if it really means much to anyone here but I just thought I'd share

Ill pour a cup to you my darling.

Well. I can't believe you, Dragoon, you chose Anette over Tarja? You disgust me.

I'm going to have to give this one some thought.

For the best players of each instrument, we'll go with:

DRUMS: Neil Peart of Rush. He's just frickin' godly.

BASS: Geddy Lee, also of Rush. (You can tell I'm a fan by now, right?)

KEYBOARDS: Urgh. I can't think of very many keyboardists that have distinguished themselves in my mind, and I'm almost tempted to say Billy Joel, but he only plays classical piano, lol. Anyways, I'll go with Jordan Rudess of Dream Theater.

GUITAR: I'm so unsure for this one. I'm tempted to say Alex Lifeson just because he's awesome, but I'm not sure because I think I'm biased due to my fandom of Rush... After serious debate, I will add Mark Knopfler of Dire Straits, because the man's an absolute genius on guitars of all sorts, and makes me melt when I listen.

VOCALS: Tarja Turunen, formerly of Nightwish. She murders Anette in every sense of the word besides the literal.

But if they had to be a band together? Let's be honest, Tarja would not click with any of Rush's musical styles, and Jordan Rudess is the only one who'd fit with her. So for a band, I'd say...

DRUMS: Neil Peart of Rush again. I can't help it, he's the greatest drummer in the world.

BASS: Geddy just wouldn't fit with the rest of the band I'm building. I'll go with John Myung of Dream Theater.

KEYBOARDS: Jordan Rudess of Dream Theater again. He's the only keyboardist I really pay that much attention to.

GUITARS: Dave Grohl of Foo Fighters. He just clicks with the rest so well.

VOCALS: Tarja Turunen of Nightwish. The operatic style and the power and presence of her voice really meshes with the other band members.

There's my ideal band. It'd be absolutely epic.

I know Tarja trumps Anette.I've said so on the official forums.Thing is,Anette would match Khan better.Loved Tarja's prescence, and Poet and the Pendulum was more her style than Anette, but still...You know I'm hardcore with NightWish.I would never hate one of their choices.Still, would've preferred to keep Tarja for that final album instead of replacing immediately...

Ahh, I see. Well, it all makes sense now. But honestly, I've never understood the people who say Anette is better, I mean, songs like Wish I Had An Angel and Over The Hills And Far Away couldn't have happened without Tarja, and they're so beautiful with her it's amazing.

Me: Bass Trombone

We'd (I'd) play free jazz, of course.

That could actually sound quite interesting. :o

I play trombone, but I'm more into classical style playing and technique. (With string players like Paganini, Hindemith, Menuhin, Julian Lloyd-Webber and Jacquelin du Pre in mind. I love the technique that string players employ and try to imitate it on the trombone.)

Oh nice! I don't play trombone or anything, I play violin. I'm finding it hard to imagine someone playing a trombone to sound like a string instrument though..

Cool.

VOCALS - Brad Delp (Boston). In my opinion, this guy is quite possibly the greatest vocalist in rock history. This man could hit every note possible, and songs such as 'More than a Feeling' and 'Long time' proved this.

BACKING VOCALS - Bruce [bleep]inson (Iron Maiden), Rob Halford (Judas Priest) and Mick Jagger (The Rolling Stones). Some of you may flame me for putting some of these behind Brad Delp, but hear me out. My best band would mainly be Hard Rock, but include a Metal feeling. Bruce and Rob would bring some of the heavier styles of music to the table. Jagger would be for the Rock style, with theatrics to boot.

LEAD GUITAR - Randy Rhodes (Ozzy Osbourne, Quiet Riot). Quite possibly the greatest ever Metal guitarist. Randy sadly died at a very young age, but achieved just as much as Hendrix in that short time. He also doesn't take criticism lightly. Apparently, when playing Mr. Crowley, Randy dodn't play the first solo recorded to Ozzy's standards. In angry protest, Rhodes stormed back into the recording booth, and played what has been called one of the greatest Metal solos of all time.

RHYTHM GUITAR - Ritchie Blackmore (Deep Purple, Rainbow). Another underestimated guitarist, Ritchie is known for playing one of the most recognisable riffs in rock music, 'Smoke on the Water.' Some would call that 'overrated.' I'd call it 'skill.' How many people have songs that are recognised worldwide? Not many, but Ritchie is one of them.

BASS - Steve Harris (Iron Maiden). The one true Iron Maiden member is the one you'd least expect. Whenever someone leaves a band, most of the time, it's the bassist. (I'm not saying that always happens, it's just what I normally notice.) But Harris has stayed with them forever. And throughout that time, he has been Maiden's unsung hero. He has been playing backing rhythms for the guitarists with some credit, but not as much as others. However, he is still a tremendous bassist.

KEYBOARD - Geddy Lee (Rush). Just TRY to tell me the name of a better keyboardist. Geddy Lee quite possibly as the trickiest job of any rock musician. At live shows, he has to sing, play bass and keyboard all at the same time! Tell me someone else who can do that. And, since vocals and bass are already taken, Geddy Lee is my keyboardist.

DRUMS - Keith Moon (The Who). Keith is commonly known as a great drummer. Up until his era, drums were only used as a back beat, not a necessity for songs. Moon and people such as Bonham and Peart changed that, and made them need to be used in rock music. Even though Moon can't even hold a candle to them, he has an original sound, which would be great for my band. He is also known for quick, cascading rolls across the toms and cymbals. Don't believe me? Listen to 'Won't Get Fooled Again', and then we'll talk.

Well, that's my band, with reasons. It would be a Hard Rock band, with a Metal feel to them.

I definitely don't mean this personally, but Keith Moon might be one of the most overrated drummers of all time. He was good, but he was not an innovator. Moon carried around his double bass set, but rarely played the second bass drum. I don't really want to start a drummer war here, but Bonham could do more on a single kick than Moon could do with two. I've been listening to classic rock for my entire life and I come from a line of drummers that stretches back to the 30s. I'd put Keith Moon behind Bonham, Peart, Paice, and Baker. 5th best in his genre.
