Should players who suggest suggestions get credit?

Featured Replies

There are tons of suggestions in RSOF, so i was wondering what you guys think of this topic.

Do you think players who made a suggestion should get credit for it, if not "Some membership", but atleast their name on "The idea"???

I've looked at the "New Bank of Runescape" here in TIF, and it has so many pages! But i think i read somewhere that the poster didn't get credit and if there was "Certain" that Jagex really took the idea from the poster or someone else.

I find it so lame that Jagex don't credit players for suggestions: that i can only describe it with two words:

Foney (as in fake) & Cheap!

Correct me if i am wrong though, but ive not heard that Jagex gives credit to players who have suggested ideas that is very similiar to the updates or the same concept.

Players who make suggestions, some make really effort into it. They deserve some regonzition..

A idea to show the players that they have "been helpful" is to : Name their names in Website....

Yeah I haven't seen Jagex credit people for their ideas, and I think they should reward players by at least mentioning their name someone on their page.

But Jagex is just being Jagex. I don't know if this is true, but during the dupe days they promised to give a lifetime membership to someone who revealed how the duping was done. People told them, but they were all banned instead of getting that reward. Sounds fair, but a bit phony.

I've posted Suggestions myself which i have really put good effort into. and my interest is to make the game better.

I don't ask for credits, as i am not the BEST Suggester. But i am wondering about what's point in suggesting if they update things based on our ideas, toughts and suggestions but don't give credit to who have developed the suggestion...

I recall the keyring, there was a big topic about it on the RSOF. When it came out, we all knew it had happened because of it. But isn't the greatest reward just to see your idea implemented? I can imagine if they gave credits, the people mentioned would end up being flooded by pms for a month, and annoyed daily forever, not much of a reward. But all the same, would be nice if they gave the credits.

No, I dont see why people would care that their runescape name is mentioned, nobodys going to know you in real life and even if they did somehow do you really want people going up to you and being like "Oh my god, youre the guy that suggested harpooning whales in runescape!"

Quit. PM me if you play The Conduit to exchange friend codes.

Oh yeah, speaking of which, some suggestions might not be welcomed by everyone who plays the games. This could be the wilderness ditch or other stuff, and if the person behind those suggestions had their names published, some might flame them in the game.

True but i don't know about you guys, but if i suggested a idea. Then Jagex based a update based on my idea, id rather be regoniziced for my suggestion than be ignored.

But i thought that someone who gets their idea implanted, should receive a message from Jagex (Game inbox), saying that they will use your idea: and that since you've contributed to the game you will now get your "black marks" away.

Jagex can secretly send message to the player who suggested the idea through game inbox, and say their black marks will go away cause they helped the game. The player will then know, they have taken their idea. From there it's the players responsibility not to get "Spammed" in game ::'

Also i highly doubt someone will say "YOUR THE GUY that suggested harpooing whales in runescape!"

I reckon it'd actually help Jagex with many updates, considering heaps would be suggesting stuff, and to be creditted it must be good, so it'd be good for Jagex.

OMG u stupid u ruined teh wild u nerd @@@@@!!!!

Anywayz, they could ask the person if they want their name to be mentioned/credited. [life changing decision *imagines horror-story topics about ppl who said yes and it ruined their life*]

Definitely NO. There are probably hundeds of people that have submitted the same ideas to Jagex so it would be unfair to only give one person credit for it. Also what If I read someones idea on tipit and send to Jagex and they then implement it? Its unfair on the original creator. Its best to give keep it how it is with credit only to Jagex employees.

"We don't want players to be able to buy their way to success in RuneScape. If we let players start doing this, it devalues RuneScape for others. We feel your status in real-life shouldn't affect your ability to be successful in RuneScape" Jagex 01/04/01 - 02/03/12

I considered a lot of the point of suggesting stuff was to get the game a little more how you'd like it.

One disadvantage of crediting suggestions I can see is it can lead to bigger arguments as to who actually came up with the idea first.

Quite often more than one person can come up with similar ideas. Right now arguments as to who came up with an idea are a little petty and a lot of people who have similar ideas would probably prefer to get on as they both actually want the same thing.

But if the chance to get your name on Runescape becomes a factor, well a lot of Runescape players are very competitive, so arguments would spring up all over the place.

There are various ideas I've seen in various places, but written up by different people.

Even something like bank-tabbing I think I have actually seen around in various forms for years. It's been much better written up in more recent times, but I think the idea has been around a long time.

I can just imagine all sorts of accusations of idea stealing and Jagex crediting the wrong person which would stop it being the nice community addition that it set out to be.

It would make no sense to credit people for things that are obvious/common sense. The new bank was pretty much common sense, tabs to organize and all that. But people who come up with unique ideas, like a new skill nobody thought of before with an original name and goes into detail into how it works and everything. Though it wouldn't be perfect. Like it would be allowed for them to inspire themselves from other people's work, but as long as they do most of the creativity themselves, then it's ok.

A lot of suggestions are repeats. If JAGeX started to give credit, then someone would be mad when they didn't get any credit because they had a repeat suggestion or when they weren't given credit and they had an older suggestion.

"We will certainly not be gaining money or members with this update. Instead, we are doing this for the good of the game, which is as dear to our hearts as it is to you."

- JAGEX, December 13, 2007

I think if they copy their exact idea, yes, but they usually just take aspects of peoples ideas and make it their own unfortunately =[ I remember suggesting a Desert God Wars minigame like a year before GWD, who knows if they took "God Wars" from my idea and put it as the title of the God Wars Dungeon, but I remember some players' ideas that were really well thought out and were slightly modified to make it jagex's own.. which was pretty sad :(

When I make my own game and if I implement a players suggestion into the game i'd give them credit, but that's just me :P

If people are making suggestions for the game they shouldn't be doing it to be recognized or get credit, they should be doing it because they believe it will make the game a more enjoyable experience.

Lowgravity, I want to be just like you. But...I never will be as 1337 as you. :(

Hundreds of people suggest the same thing or things that come very close to ideas jagex makes.

To credit them all for it would take too much effort and would lead to noobs saying omg i posted 3 years ago saying "the bank shoe be changed cuz it is old" wanting credit

Operation Gold Sparkles :: Chompy Kills ::  Full Profound :: Champions :: Barbarian Notes :: Champions Tackle Box :: MA Rewards

Dragonkin Journals :: Ports Stories :: Elder Chronicles :: Boss Slayer :: Penance King :: Kal'gerion Titles :: Gold Statue

Most definately, it's only fair.

Who's to stop them saying they didn't have the idea first though? They are in the more powerful position.

Residua.png

Well, they should ask the person first if they want credit. As, there's a risk where they will be harassed in game. You know, some people just aren't the type to take and understand updates maturely.

No because jagex cant guarantee these people were first to suggest it, and the suggestions forums will be flooded with topics like GUNS IN RUINSCAPE!!1, and the gems in there wont be noticed

smellysockssigbyblfazer.png

I say no in general because jagex does the Design they fix it up they do it all and all the person did was spark the Idea.

Hmm, I never thought of that. That's true though, Jagex has no way of knowing.

The greatest reward would have your suggestion implemneted into the game. Alot of content comes from suggestions I think, but Jagex will always modify the idea to make it their own. They do that <.<

Once words leave your mouth, they are not your's anymore - they are the world's.

I've gotten over it before. I suggested a few things before that Jagex has used and not credited me for-.-. For example, I suggested a quest back in 05 that was almost synonymous to Gwd. There's also the matter of white dragon hide for 3rd age, but not my idea, bunches of others' though...I swear, Jagex probably has my house bugged  . I was doodling on my sketch book for a cape that would store runes (btw, they took that one for the enchanted water tiara  ) for a set amount of time. I then started going crazy and began creating armor and weapons for tank magers. NOT ONLY DID THEY MAKE LUNAR ARMOR WHICH WAS FAIRLY SIMILAR, THEY ALSO MADE BANDOS ARMOR WHICH WAS *EXACTLY* THE SAME. And no, I'm not crazy; I just don't like when people try to talk to my imaginary friend  and then make fun of me. (lol just kidding.)

It should be an option to have your username credited for suggestions. You have to realize, that on one hand players would like the support that is offered when they suggest a great update, but that they may not like the banter and rants if they suggest a poor one.
