August 4, 200817 yr why do you think that runescape is in the state it is in, I mean it is still a very popular game and is far from any serious threat of shutting down but, with the new graphics, 5 dollars a month for full features, runescape should dominate the web! Why are there no runescape commercials? WHy are they not expanding at a phenominal rate? Why arn't they growing as fast as, say for example WoW? Now that they have the graphics to end the "well runescape is dumb because of the crap graphics" argument they should be trying to dominate the market for these kinds of games! And also they could make much more money for faster expansion for more money for faster expansion and so on but it seems in the last year runescape has taken some major steps backwards for example the RWT update, I don't know any players that hated bots with every fiber of their being and I knew countless players who loved the thrill of chasing down a fleeing player carrying over 1 mill worth of items and plus with the removal of things like that and the addition of things like the G.E runescape has become a place where even some high level players are having a hard time guessing what the price of something will be tomorow. So why, I ask, why are these things happening...
August 4, 200817 yr Runescape is seen as a joke mmo in the same way EA is seen as a corrupt company that only cares about pumping out Sims expansions. No matter what they will do, people will still join the bandwagon against them.
August 4, 200817 yr The fair trade thing wont sit well with the rest of the mmo community. Also, there needs to be more high end group content to get those people in. the chat filter would drive anyone else away.

August 4, 200817 yr eh I think theres too many runescapers as it is today, I liked it better when there were less. I think rs could be very popular if it was advertised but I also don't think its that its the type of game you'd see on a commercial. If it was maybe i'd see more people in real life that play and that'd be cool I guess.
August 4, 200817 yr Because Mr. T and William Shatner are too busy to create commercials for Runescape. The real reason is that they don't need to waste money on advertisements that will do more harm than good. Jagex tries to keep the community the way it is, in which most people have come from miniclip. Allot of people on this game are new to MMO's, and in some cases computers as well. This is just a training ground for players, and Jagex uses that to their advantage.
August 4, 200817 yr Author But the option of trying out for free is a really good idea for making money, because in WoW you have a 15 day trial and as for advertiseing just put those ads on the sides of websites, they won't attract much attention but even if 1 in 100 people viewing the sign eventually become a member the price of advertiseing online would still make them money

EA is hoping to change their rep with the game spore The 3-install installation limit (triggered by a change in hardware and reformatting) has me suspicious of this promised change.
August 4, 200817 yr Because Mr. T and William Shatner are too busy to create commercials for Runescape. --On the bridge of the Enterprise Mr. T walks up to Shatner in the Captain's chair. Mr. T: "Captain, I pity the foo that don't play Runescape!!" --Camera pans to look out the front of the bridge. --World of Warcraft logo is in front of the Enterprise. Shatner: "Divert power from shields to the photon torpedo bays." Gower: "But Captain, we've only fired the photon torpedoes 4 times in the entire series!" --Gower diverts power. Shatner: "Fire the photon torpedoes!" --World of Warcraft logo explodes in a shower of cheesy special effects. --Text appears on screen: "Runes*ape, it's the ****!!!1" Narrator: "Runescape, it's the *beeeep* noobs." --Fade to black. OH S***! He/she/it is back!
August 4, 200817 yr ya i heard in wow you can curse lol That is true. If you say something bad, something like this would come up: "#%&@#" Id like to see jagex make something like that. ........::::: Rainy's YouTube Channel - Rainy's Twitter - Rainy's Facebook - Rainy's DeviantArt - Rainy's Tumblr - Rainy's Tip.It Profile :::::.........
August 4, 200817 yr ya i heard in wow you can curse lol That is true. If you say something bad, something like this would come up: "#%&@#" Id like to see jagex make something like that. WoW has a profanity filter, which can even be disabled. But I can't really I see people swearing often. Guess it's not that special when the game doesn't make a big deal out of it :P and the fact that it doesn't filter out anything that's not even remotely bad is a plus, too. It isn't overly strict and therefore not much of an annoyance. I don't think Diablo 3 will have much of an influence on 'Scape, different people playing those games I'd say. Besides, it's not like D3 is an MMO, so the amount of time invested shouldn't be quite as big after the initial enthousiasm. As for 'Scape not growing, I don't know. Lack of end-game group content is definitly an issue, and the change to the wilderness made it worse, as (in my opinion) the new wilderness just doesn't cut it compared to the old one. And indeed, ask the average WoW player who has heard of 'Scape, and a "lol RS" is the most likely answer you'll get. And I doubt they'll believe you when you tell them the water on 'Scape looks better than the average lake in WoW...but it actually does, I couldn't help but notice how a lake looked like the same texture repeated 40 times when I flew over it :P
August 4, 200817 yr There is so many restrictions and bad things about Runescape, that is why. I am still playing cause i have somehow adapted. I would say that players who play online games expect this from a game: Free to trade Pking Good graphichs Interacting with others Luck There's more, but that's some i am sure alot players would want in a online game. So far Runescape instead of adding: they have removed Luck, Pking and Free to trade.
August 4, 200817 yr Graphics = Much better with HD now. I would say Runescape looks like a slightly more detailed Warcraft 3 now. Sound = Well, you do the best you can with .midi. I personally enjoy the runescape music while I play, it fits the setting. Trade = Eh, what can you do? Grand Exchange is convenient. Filter = I'm still hoping that this parent control system will allow the filter to be turned off.
August 4, 200817 yr The RWT updates were a major step forward. Runescape has no scammers, no armies of sweatworkers or bots, only a few irl traders. Jagex stated they had big plans for 2008, and they have done a lot. The new worlds released today clearly show they are growing. Three new pvp minigames sound good for the pvp part. Trading works fine, player interaction is still possible (lending), graphics and gameplay are great. We are also expecting runescape in french and Mechscape in Q1 2009. We don't know if more players also mean more or better updates. Runescape doesn't need to be advertised in tv, miniclip is plenty enough.
August 4, 200817 yr Runescape is seen as a joke mmo in the same way EA is seen as a corrupt company that only cares about pumping out Sims expansions. No matter what they will do, people will still join the bandwagon against them. EA is hoping to change their rep with the game spore EA killed Westwood! Of course they are evil! They also ruined Sim City with that joke of a game Sim City Societies. But seriously, those are the only two things that I think make EA deserve their bad reputation. To be honest they make some pretty freaking good games overall. On topic: For the record, I hated bots with every fiber of my being. As for Runescape's not larger than life reputation, I'd prefer if it stayed as "small" as it is. There are enough idiots running around as is. The game would be better off without a lot of publicity.
August 4, 200817 yr As much as we don't like to admit it, Runescape is and probably always will be a beginner or gateway MMO which explains the lack of high level content, the kid friendly atmosphere, and the excessive censor. That is why Jagex probably doesnt spend money on advertising, i would think the people that would respond to TV, magazine ads or whatever would be serious gamers who have already experienced an MMO or would try Runescape then forsake it for a bigger name game.
August 4, 200817 yr i dont think theyll shut down in along time it is successful if it wasnt 5 new servers wouldnt be added today if they were "in threat of shutting down."
August 4, 200817 yr I think the biggest obstacle to RuneScape's success is their poor customer support. And by "poor" I mean "lack of".
August 4, 200817 yr i dont think theyll shut down in along time it is successful if it wasnt 5 new servers wouldnt be added today if they were "in threat of shutting down." Indeed, I think runescape still has loads of new stuff to add for a long time. Jagex also keep finding ways to drive java to the limits soo i doubt they are in any danger of shutting down just yet. ........::::: Rainy's YouTube Channel - Rainy's Twitter - Rainy's Facebook - Rainy's DeviantArt - Rainy's Tumblr - Rainy's Tip.It Profile :::::.........
August 5, 200817 yr It's a fad to hate RS - I dare you to mention Runescape on WOW. You'll be lucky if you're not flamed to hell. But the funniest thing is, most of the ones who will yell at you for it are ex-players.
August 5, 200817 yr mainly because rs doesnt advertise... otherwise it seems boring and dull at first. the community is becoming worse... and its just becoming boring. even though we have decent graphics now... it still happens that when we hit things it is just a 0 or 8. no "real" fights or anything going on. and another of the removal of pvp which just makes the games boring because its us against npcs. 5$ / week is also expensive for wat it is when u think about it. lets say u want it for a year that is 60$. for that u can buy another game forever... like gta4 or something.
August 5, 200817 yr too many runescape players (such as yourself) complain about the where the game is headed, rather than discuss solutions.
August 5, 200817 yr Thankfully, Jagex seems to find their solutions for the game that works decently well. With the additions of the in-game world map, Runescape HD and the new bank also shows they are starting to listen to players and shaping up. It is just the problem that Jagex is a small company and does not have big enough teams to work on everything they want to include. Yet, we see major changes every year, so I am excited to see how different Runescape will be in 2009 compared to today's Runescape. Just looking back at when I started playing in 2004 makes me excited. So many things have changed, many for the better, some for the worse.
August 5, 200817 yr 5$ / week is also expensive for wat it is when u think about it. lets say u want it for a year that is 60$. for that u can buy another game forever... like gta4 or something. Where did 5$ a week come from. :P There is also the fact that if you buy a game for 60$. The game will be the same, but in runescape, there would be updates every month. ........::::: Rainy's YouTube Channel - Rainy's Twitter - Rainy's Facebook - Rainy's DeviantArt - Rainy's Tumblr - Rainy's Tip.It Profile :::::.........
