I've been reading alot of threads here, because I like runescape and I like forums.

 

Anyway, what is wrong with everybody? Correction: what is wrong with most people?

 

Every thread I read turns into a flame war, or just straight up dissing eachother. What

 

do you have to prove? You're mostly all the same just sitting on your computer having fun.

 

Why take a [cabbage] on somebody elses fun? Theres nothing wrong with a good discussion but

 

there are so many unnecessary arguments trying to prove one person is better than the other.

 

 

 

You might say "if you dont like it, why are you still here?" or "if you dont like it get out"

 

 

 

Well this is the best runescape forum on the net, I want to see it in a good light, not just as a bunch

 

of angry teens venting on eachother.

Just so you know, it's not the Tip it community. It's the entire online community. Anyone who gets to say anything and everything they want with 0 regard for the consequence can say anything and not worry. People try to prove others wrong to make them selves feel better about whatever insecurities or inadequacies.

Hey, I know what threads you're talking about and behind the angry vents are often some misguided thoughts. If you can avoid the flame wars as they happen, you will enjoy the forum mostly. There are tons of decent people here and you'll make friends quickly, don't be quick to judge the entire forum from a few threads you've read. ;)

The general rule of thumb is ask a stupid question, get a stupid answer. If you start a thread on a topic that's been discussed to death (horse suggestion, rant to bring back wilderness,) an excuse to bash Jagex (lol jagex sux so do the players lol) or just generally act like "that guy", you'll probably end up inciting the flames.

I would rather take part in a community where everybody is being honest about the posters being stupid then on a forum where everyone is acting stupid.

 

 

 

And these typically aren't true 'flame wars' , since we don't throw cuss words at each other, eat a biscuit, and find out that the topic is locked. Its flaming, the politically correct way, Where one weeds out every single error and blazes it to the ground. Much like in soccer, where sliding directed at the player is considered wrong, but if its directed at the ball and the player tumbles and breaks a leg, its legit.

 

 

 

It takes a few tries, but after some time you'll get the hang of it.

I've rarily witnessed the more "heated" discussions turn into flame wars...maybe its because I don't head to the Rants section or controversial topics that often :P. Mostly I see alot of excuses to debate the miniscule details and try to find arguments to support one side over the other. Well most threads on TIF would be very dry reads if everyone just chimed in with: "Well I don't think I agree with you but yeah you are so right, lets have cake :D!" The debate factor makes threads interesting and engaging to read. Much like the responses in this thread...

You'll build opinions of people, there's people I respect, and people I dislike. If a thread is created by a popular TIFer it'll be full of crap with "Lame 0/10." from their friends. If that gives you an opinion of a flame war here, it's just about as annoying as one.

 

 

 

People here also jump on other's opinions, even when it's perfectly legit and explained, everyone wants to be right.

My advice is:

 

1) Don't generalise people and take each poster on thier own merits

 

2) Learn to post in the right forum as this is clearly a rant

 

3) Don't make a thread dissing people for flaming etc as you are then just doing what your complaining about.

That is actually the beauty of the forums is to have such a diverse community! Yes there are more immature ones then we would care for but you will get that from anywhere. There are a lot of forums that have one type of person, an elite forum, so to speak. Often times they are arrogant jerks. I do think we have some of the best players on Tif however! I am glad you recognize that.

 

 

 

I would suggest, look around. General board is cool, but some the other forums on tip.it is where you really make friends! If you like a better debate, try the Debate Forum.

 

 

 

Overall, have fun and ignore some of the annoying post, you get those. Just pass them and read the next one, some of these flame wars get rather funny tbh. If you don't care about post count, just read them. TBH, thats what I do and I try to only reply if I have something beneficial to say. Many others do that so you won't really see them, so to speak.

QFT. Tip.it has significantly less immature posters than most forums out there, specifically the RuneScape Official Forums. We don't have Jagex support, but our community makes up for that by far, and that is our purpose- To deliver forum-wise where Jagex hasn't.

To be honest everyone has an opinion and that is fair enough just remember not to be too derogatory to Tip.It or any other fansite. For now this has been moved to Forum Updates & Suggestions.

Just because people post negatively doesn't mean they are immature, even if the general who do are.

 

 

 

Every forum will have negativity. Every forum will have wannabe mods, suck-ups, weirdos, idiots, and of course trolls.

 

 

 

I could tell you to just ignore certain groups of people, but that would be ignoring our great 'diverse community'. Honestly, you'll see it everyday and every visit to the forums. Like it or not, it's your decision to stay on any kind of discussion boards.

 

 

 

Better yet compare Tip.It to 4chan, and you'll be happy with this place.

The internet is full of a diverse audience. So there are bound to be a clash of personalitys/opinions often on the board, or in frequent cases, the person is just trying to cause a disturbance (trolling). We try our best to keep flame wars at bay/remove flame baits, but obviously we can't keep track of every topic.

 

 

 

Just report rule breaking posts, and a moderator will soon take care of it. :)

 

 

 

And in regard to Fairness' posts. That is simply a matter of opinion. I personally favour the tip.it forum anyday, mainly due to me knowing more people on this forum than any other, and enjoying the topics. Others may prefer RSC/other fansites. It's all down to personal choice.

It's not a Tipit thing, it's a human nature thing. I see stupid arguments every day of my life. You can't escape from the flaws of humankind and TIF is not an exception.

 

 

 

As for us posters, some of us have our moments and we say stupid things - others much much more than others - but generally speaking, I think because of the moderating that this is actually a pretty decent forum. It's the only one I could actually ever stick around. Sure, there are people at each others' throats sometimes but that's completely natural. 8-)
