I've tried Trigun (was alright, had a competent story at least), FlCl (that was probably the biggest mind [bleep] I've ever watched), Death Note, and Code Geass.

Maybe you don't like all the big action type animes. Try a slice-of-life like Lucky Star or Kannagi.

Out of them, I have only read Death Note.

Riku, how would you class Death Note as an action type? It was more comparable to GitS, well, if you took out the action in GitS. But yeah, try branching out a little before you judge all anime. You really need to try a few different types before you can judge.

(And while I'm at it, try watching Elfen Lied, its only 13 episodes, but contains alot of violence and nudity, judging by the manga anyway, which I doubt they took out, but again, its downfall is, it is short, the ending in it is different from the manga (I cried a little to be honest))

There's still nudity and violence in Elfen Lied.

I didn't mean to classify Death Note as an action-type anime. It just happened to be in a list full of action-typed anime. I meant maybe he'd like a more relaxed anime better.

Ah, I see your point there.

Anyway, I started reading the Lucky Star manga, its pretty good actually. Definately seems worth checking out in either form.

And honestly, I don't think Elfen Lied would be if it didn't have violence and nudity (the anime) as it seemed to be pretty big in the manga at times. Though just wondering, are the "lesbian" (no better word) secens in the anime aswell? Not exactly something big, more to do with Nyu's innocence, but I'm just wondering anyway.

There is only 1 anime you need to watch.

It does not get any better than this.

Along with Haruhi and Code Geass, the most overrated anime in existence right there.

Those anmes actually deserve an anime fan's attention rather than crap like Naruto or Bleach.

Really? Code Geass was a pretty [cabbage]ty way of copying and attempting to mix mecha and Death Note-esque intellectuality. If you want something thought provoking, try GitS. It's great for buffs of both sci-fi and politics. If you want mecha, go for Gundam. Now, if you want [cabbage]ty copycat mecha combined with fake intellectualism (wow, they can play chess and act like the battlefield plays like a chessboard, thought-provoking), then sure, go for Geass. God, I can't believe I watched both seasons of that. Geass was so [cabbage]ty it was even self-aware of it's own [cabbage]tyness, as evidenced by all the compensatory fan service.

Haruhi I can't speak for. Not really a fan of the whole look-into-the-regular-life-of-Japanese-students thing. Not enough escapism there.

Naruto and Bleach are great, you want to know why? Not because they're throught provoking, not because they are realistic, no. It's because they have a genre, action, and they do it [bleep]ing well. Like Dragon Ball Z of days old, the authors of these mangas know action. They know how to keep an audience on the edge of their seat, and they're great at character development to boot. Sure, the plots a little weird sometimes, and there's maybe a handful too many deus ex machinas throughout the series, but that's how the genre goes, and that's why they're at the top of the charts.

Why am I even arguing for this. I'm pretty damn sure that you like Naruto and Bleach, but there's just something about being a "true anime fan" that won't allow you to touch mainstream. No need to respond to this point though, asa denial will be the same to me as not saying anything at all, as your word is worthless here.

Fullmetal Alchemist, you will be missed. A great ending to a great series.

Most people who watched geass knew it was crap, and were just along for the ride by the end of it. Best trainwreck ever. It had its good bits though.

To be honest, I've never tried GitS, but I dont like the look of it really, and gundam is a steaming pile of [cabbage]e, and always will be.

Not enough escapism in haruhi? Its practically the main theme of the show. Season 2 is gonna be a lot more serious than season 1 anyway.

Not really. They get enough damned attention as it is. There are lots of things that I think deserve more praise than I see thrown around. Haruhi wasn't bad by any means, but it's just so horrendously overrated. I was actually disappointed with it in parts because my anime friends had hyped it up to the point where I had to just give in and watch it - I'm pleased that I did, because some of it is actually very solid. It's the best series that Kyoto Animation has ever adapted, that's for sure.

As for things that I think deserve more praise: Texhnolyze. Sure, I've only watched the first episode of it, but I can already tell it's a masterpiece; hell, anything that Yoshi ABe had any involvement in is a masterpiece.

There are some really beautiful series out there tucked away behind all the stuff that's pushed to the majority. However, anime fans are largely blinded by the big shows instead of going on and opening themselves up to things that aren't aimed at a mainstream audience. Then, the anime fans wonder why the average person hates anime when all the person in question has probably watched are shows such as Gurren Lagann, Code Geass, Naruto, Bleach, et cetera. I, for one, am definitely for more people enjoying animated shows as well as non-animated; but when some of the shows that are pushed are incessantly stupid, it's hard for some to enjoy it.

The reason I hate DBZ, Naruto, and Bleach is because it takes way too long for the story to progress. "Action" isn't some guy training for 10 episodes, searching for someone for 2, and then having a conversation with his opponent rather than fighting for the next 5, which for some reason, DBZ, Bleach, and Naruto have all done.

And you'll probably hate me for this but... I've tried GitS and Gundam... Hated them both. Sorry 'bout that.

GitS isn't for everyone. Hell, nothing is.

I don't see why someone can hate someone over something as trivial as this. And, regarding the films, I find Innocence at bit hard to watch at times. Its too much focus on the philosopical side at times, which after watching a couple times, just gets a little boring.

And yet they're mainstream and huge sellers. It's not that you don't like DBZ, Naruto, and Bleach, it's that you don't like the genre of action in it's most refined and quintessential form.

Although, your summation of these shows is a little odd. In your partitioning you didn't actually include fighting. Let me rephrase that. You didn't include fighting as a part of DBZ.

And you'll probably hate me for this but... I've tried GitS and Gundam... Hated them both. Sorry 'bout that.

I think the biggest thing with GitS is that you really have to have an interest in the politics of the plot, because there is a lot that goes into understanding the fictional future governments and without that understanding or drive to think politically it's just an action show with some realistic futuristic tech and nice effects. I remember when I was younger I watched it and loved it for how thought provoking it is, but now that I'm older and can understand nearly everything that's going on (the techinal terminology requires at least a BS in CS to truly understand and the political discussions are beyond at a college liberal arts level), the show doesn't entice me as much because politics was never my thing. It's an acquired taste I guess.

And I didn't really like Gundam either, but it's the paragon of mecha regardless.

I have an idea. How about we get people to abridge like 4-10 episodes into 6-9 minutes and then we laugh our butts off at the comedic humor of the Abridger(s) who added in some extra stuff?

@Gallade There is a small problem with your plan. You need people who are decent at voice acting, and an actual good script. Then you have to actually come up with your forced personality for each character. It would also take awhile with all the editing.

Has anybody read JoJo's Bizarre Adventure? I just started reading that the other day (the internet dub at least), and I think it's pretty good.

My friend made me watch a whole bunch of Rosario Vampire dubs when I slept over at his house one time. It's kind of funny, but he is really obsessed with the parts where the girls are part naked and stuff. He is a horny little man...
