my first (and currently only) 99 was/is attack

1st: Money- already had all the weapons, just a lot of food/pots needed

2nd: Time- i have college and a lot of studying that i have to do, but i wasnt bothered about howlong it took.

3rd: Power- got it so i can kill tougher monsters easier and wield the almighty gs =P

4th: Rarity- around 40k people have it, so wasnt too bothered.

5th: Real life- i like accuracy (good with target practice) but am not so good with a bow and arrow (hence my almughtily low range)

6th: Just Liking the skill- liked the whip and the ability to win more duels by hitting more often

7th: Competition- cant really see anyone to compete with.

personally ppl like useful 99s. strength is one so is hp and many others. but i dont see a point to 99 mining because it takes long to get and u can already mine rune once ur at 85.

In my case, getting a 99 ultimately depends on how easy it is. That might explain why I've only got a 99 in cooking despite playing for almost 3 years.

Honestly, after getting my first 99, I looked back and found what I did a little stupid. I mean, spending hours just to get an otherwise thicker cape with an emote you'd get easily bored of? Stupid. :shame:

Simply, the majority of people want a 99 that is easy to get, just so they can get the stat bonuses asap.

For me, it's a hard-to-get 99 skill, which can cost alot, take a while to get, or just simply both.

Yet, for the combat nerds who sit there training on their yaks and rock crabs, it's probably 99 strength, and they get it with 80~ attack. They're stupid. :|

I dont need a siggy no moar.

I have always had a thing for Range ever since I started playing Runescape. Since I always like it, it was not that hard.

Later on I also enjoyed Firemaking since its quick and pretty fun if you ask me.

The only reason I'm working on cooking now is cause its easy! EASY!

I think that, in many cases, it just sort of happens. Someone will start playing RuneScape for the first time, will all (or many/most) of the skills, begin to get a sense of which skills they like and which they don't, and then take it from there. In many cases, I'm sure that the skill(s) the person enjoys will become the highest and after a certain point the person probably starts thinking, "Well I'm already level [x] so why not continue on to 99?"

Or, after playing the game for a few weeks/months, the person gets a sense of what it means to have a 99 skill, how people with 99 skills are praised, etc., and they pick out the easiest/fastest/cheapest one to level to 99 first.

Obviously not true in every case.. but yeah, I guess I'd say a first 99 is usually a person's favourite skill or just one of the easiest skills to level. I don't think it's until later that people start getting 99s out of "obligation" or to achieve other goals (i.e. maxing out).

First cape will be untrimmed hp, I like the rarity in it, and just the overall cape is very pretty ::'

I am also getting 99 mining, also for the rarity and the cool colors of the cape, what can I say, I'm a sucker for a pretty cape.

Rarity- Some people train skills that very little people have 99 in such as runecrafting, agility, farming, or summoning. They do this for the satisfaction of getting one of the hardest skills to 99 and the ability to say they have 99 in it

Back when I got the construction cape (first 99 skill) this was a big one for me. I didn't want "just another skillcape", I wanted something BIG. The fact that it was rare was a big reason for why I got it.

One thing it's important to notice is many of these go both ways, one person will go for a skill because it's cheap while someone will go for another skill because it's expensive. Many will go for 2 capes that will remain unnamed because they are easy, while others will go for stuff like slayer, runecrafting or summoning because they are hard.

I like how you said "first 99", the first one is always a bit special. That's when you go from having no skillcape, not knowing what the challenge is, to feeling that fuzzy sense of completion. The first one is special (or at least was for me, I don't know how it's like for cook/fletch)

I went for crafting because I got it to 90, and I enjoyed it. After that I was like, I enjoy this skill, I'll train it to 99 ::' For herblore, my second 99, I also trained it to 90 because I enjoyed it, and after that, I worked hard for some money (I went to Armadyl godwars alot), got a hilt drop and finished the skill I like the most.

For me, it comes down to accomplishment and fun. While it will not be my first 99, Summoning is the first 99 that I will be aiming for (if that makes sense). I will get 99 Magic and Hitpoints in the process, but i'll just call that collateral damage ::' . Before Summoning came out, I was on the way to training Runecrafting to 99 because I enjoyed the skill. However, 8 months ago my internet was broken and would constantly drop out, so I couldn't really do anything on Runescape anymore. Now it had finalyl been fixed, and I working on 99 Summoning once more  .

I had the mentality 99 def = godlike taking 0's a lot, although is the case for some monsters not for all >< I wanted to be unique, in that all my friends maxed out strength first. whilst i got defence. Strength and attack came naturally after, I couldn't get 99 in non combat skill tbh, i really enjoy melee and skilling seems too boring for me

I'm at Karamja ranging lessers... if I don't kill him in time people run underneath my foe and steel my arrows. Why! Have some decency and let me finish off the monster and get my arrows that I earned you PIG! Otherwise i have to run out to grab my arrows, get hit, and go back.. and guess what!, by then they stole my lesser! BASTARD!

In case you're curious, assuming you double nat craft at the abyss. You're only about 1,000,000 Nature runes away from 99 rc

My only 99's are combat ones, which I got in order to help my clan more in wars.

My next 99 will probably be agility, for the same reason :D

My first 99 will be fishing, for several reasons.

- The cape looks good.

- I'll make a lot of money getting it, which will carry over towards another 99.

- The skill has a use at 99. (unlike Herblore, Farming, Fletching etc.)

- It's relatively easy to get, not a lot of clicking.

- Respected by other players. (unlike Firemaking, Fletching)

I planned on going back to Runecrafting after Summoning, and yes, I was planning on stockpiling my natures to reach the 1000k mark \'
