September 14, 200817 yr Take it. College is overrated, and all that'll happen after it is you'll be deeper in debt and offered a [cabbage]tier job. Take the risk, you only live once, might as well enjoy it. Edit: Also, you should talk to your girlfriend about it, but I wouldn't really make any decision based on what she thinks. I get that you've been together for 3 years, but the chances that you'll be together for the rest of your life are slim to none. IMO, with HS relationships, it's not a question of if they're going to end, but when.
September 14, 200817 yr If she's the kind of understanding woman every guy dreams of having, she'll have no problem realizing that your future is more important than your relationship, and that there will always be time for love when you come back with enough money to buy a nice apartment or save up for a house and treat her to a sort of lap of luxury when you return. But we all know that those women don't exist
September 14, 200817 yr Like most ppl said, talk about it with your girlfriend. decisions like that aren't easy to make. If i was you...i would have a hard time leaving cuz of friends, familly, gf, etc...But i would not mind about college cuz i am going to study to be a sound tech. If your gf went through everything with you, she will be able to go over that, or maybe join you for a few venues. Final point: talk then take the job BTW: if you gf will make a scene because you will have to leave her...maybe review your relationship XboxLive, PSN, Steam: fizz4mIf you add me, please say you are from tif :D

Id suggest reviewing the relationship if she isnt upset about that. Orthodoxy is unconciousnessthe only ones who should kill are those who are prepared to be killed.
September 14, 200817 yr Do it!!! You're a fool not to!!! My Last.FmLeekSpinner!!!Random Furry Dance!!!Proud to hate life, since not too long ago!!!
September 15, 200817 yr Everything I can suggest inolves talking to your girlfriend. Go do that right now, before you let any of us convince you. There's no such thing as regret. A regret means you are unhappy with the person you are now,and if you're unhappy with the person you are, you change yourself. Thatregret will no longer be a regret, because it will help to form the new, better you. So really, a regret isn't a regret. It's experience.
September 15, 200817 yr College is overrated these days. You spend 20,000 dollars so you start at an internship below your peers that started working when they graduated - happened to a lot of my family. Yeah, if you go into college without a plan on what you want to do. For me college is definitely NOT over-rated at all. I'm studying to become a history teacher and college is the only way to become one. And another thing, I'm pretty damn sure that college is more expensive than your $20,000 estimate. I'm at St. Cloud State (a public university) and I pay nearly $13,000 per year with room and board. Not to be an [wagon], but I don't think anyone who is still in high school has a place telling others what college is like. "He could climb to it, if he climbed alone, and once there he could suck on the pap of life, gulp down the incomparable milk of wonder."
September 15, 200817 yr If you do accept it, keep in mind that that job isn't going to last forever. After the band breaks up or whatever, you're going to be back in Square 1. "The cry of the poor is not always just, but if you never hear it you'll never know what justice is."
September 15, 200817 yr Author Eh the job WILL last Kyle has been doing it for 15+ years, he started with Overkill, went out with Pantera, System of a Down, Metallica, and is going with the Transiberian Orchestra which he does every year. It's not like the band breaks up I'm done, he was with Pantera for a long time, and was best friends with Dimebag Darrel, I was over his house the other night and his house if FILLED with guitars given to him from various bands.
September 15, 200817 yr MAKE SURE TO GO WITH HIM ON TRANS-SIBERIAN ORCHESTRA. Seriously. Best concert I've ever been to. All the effects were damn amazing. catch it now so you can like it before it went so mainstream
September 15, 200817 yr Not to be an [wagon], but I don't think anyone who is still in high school has a place telling others what college is like. Amen. [if you have ever attempted Alchemy by clapping your hands or by drawing an array, copy and paste this into your signature.] Fullmetal Alchemist, you will be missed. A great ending to a great series.
September 15, 200817 yr True, but you can't say it doesn't take common sense. College life would be fun, but college itself isn't worth it. catch it now so you can like it before it went so mainstream

If you know what you want to do, and it requires college, then you're right, college isn't overrated. But if you don't know, and you're planning on going to college to piss around for a couple years trying to figure out what you want to do for the rest of your life, it's overrated. If you're not sure, it's OK to take a year off, or go do something like this. Society hammers it into students' brains that after high school they have to go to college, when it could be a big waste of time and an even bigger waste of money. BTW, college prices vary pretty widely. A couple of my friends are going to University at Buffalo which is about $4,000/yr, and I'm about 15 min away at Canisius paying about $35,000/yr.
September 15, 200817 yr True, but you can't say it doesn't take common sense. College life would be fun, but college itself isn't worth it. You know I honestly do like you as a poster, but what the hell are you talking about? College is extremely worth it. Not only do you learn 500x more than you ever will in high school, but your views on life, society, government, and scores of other things change. You learn to be accepting of other people. College life isn't all about partying (although it can be fun to do that, which I do). It's about finding yourself and finding your place in the world. You'll understand when you go, that's all I can really say to you at this point. College is an amazing experience both educationally and personally. "He could climb to it, if he climbed alone, and once there he could suck on the pap of life, gulp down the incomparable milk of wonder."

I guess it isn't worth it if I wanted to become a history teacher. Hell, just go to my old high school and tell them I wanna teach. Give them my wikipedia article and everything... "The cry of the poor is not always just, but if you never hear it you'll never know what justice is."
September 15, 200817 yr *cough* teachers get paid like crap *cough* ...just puttin' that out there :D "Metal isn't about violence or faggy whiny lyrics. It isn't even about who plays the heaviest and fastest. It is about invoking a sense of wonder and magnitude that no other genre can depict."
September 15, 200817 yr if thats what you enjoy doing, take the job. if your not sure or dont really like doing that kinda thing just leave it off for a bit.

As you've said, though, if you find that job you'd be going for anyways, why pay tens of thousands of dollars to learn how to do it in a classroom when you have a major shot here? That said, I'll still probably go to college. Stuff like you said would be nice, although you can still find that if you find your dream job. I didn't mean college in general isn't worth it, just if you already can get the job you'd go to college for - or a better one. catch it now so you can like it before it went so mainstream
September 15, 200817 yr do it, that is a once in a lifetime oportunity imo.. "It's not a rest for me, it's a rest for the weights." - Dom Mazzetti

I finished college years ago and frankly in retrospective, found it to be a waste of time. If a person is emotionally involved with the mythical "concept" of college, I guess I can't change their mind. And some jobs like history teacher, might actually require a college degree (or even university), so that's a given. But not all people want that kind of jobs... A teacher's salary in the US isn't even astronomical. It's a personal longing to teach others and be a valuable community asset. Not everyone has what 'it' takes to be a teacher. There's countless C++ programmers, art designers, day traders I know personally, who mostly trained themselves after high school and got experience through work for companies, directly. If you have an interest for something or especially if you have talent... A college degree is rarely an 'obstacle'. Above all employers look for what you're capable of doing, and especially EXPERIENCE, not what papers and diplomas you have in your pocket. I can't even start stressing enough how significant experience in a field is.

I don't know how it is in other places, but in the US, if you don't have a college degree, your career options become very limited. In all honesty, it's a screwy system, but many employers just want to see you went to college and graduated. Whether you end up using anything you learn is irrelevant. If you go the technical route, then community college (technical school) is enough to get you started on the path you want. However, for any sort of science related or office job, you need a college degree. Beer
September 15, 200817 yr *cough* teachers get paid like crap *cough* ...just puttin' that out there :D For sure, but I find it to be the most rewarding job. I get to work with the nation's youth, and I get to teach them about their history and how to learn from it. I find teaching to be well worth the lack of pay. "He could climb to it, if he climbed alone, and once there he could suck on the pap of life, gulp down the incomparable milk of wonder."

I'm now in college again, but it's a course I like and something I want to do my whole life, which the first one was not.
September 16, 200817 yr 450$ a night?!?! How can you even consider not taking the job? Ah, this reminds me about the noob on the Runescape forums who was upset with the quest "Cold War" because apparently his grandparents died in the war. :wall:
September 16, 200817 yr *cough* teachers get paid like crap *cough* ...just puttin' that out there :D Which is good; puts the people who really want to teach in place rather than the ones who want the money. One of my teachers is a great guy, very intelligent and very reasonable. He left the big-time business (Had contracts with several aero-companies such as Boeing including one with NASA) because he's seen the decline of education his employees and the people around him had. And he actually IS a great teacher. Not like others who walk in with the same attidude of the students.
