Study help

We all have studied/will study at least something for some sort of test/exam for school, college, uni or w/e.

My question is:

How do you study?

Do you have music blearing in your ears or do you have to have silence or what?

Why I'm asking is because I (and I'll assume at least some of yous do) have some exams coming soon or sometime and either you can't study or you don't know how to study.

Please respect everyone's different way of studying.

Here's something you might find interesting: Where I live, basic study techniques are a required part of your education when you start to really need it (7th grade).

Basically:

  1. [*:1n5a0i5i]Different people remember things better in different ways, there are a few basic categories:

    1. [*:1n5a0i5i]Visual learners.

[*:1n5a0i5i]People that learn better by listening. (Audio learners?)

[*:1n5a0i5i]Physical learners; People that learn better while in motion or by doing something.

[*:1n5a0i5i]People that are better learning things through more mental memory techniques.

[*:1n5a0i5i]Try different things involving the previously mentioned categories, find out to which group you belong.

[*:1n5a0i5i]The circumstances/environment under which you are studying has a very large effect on how much you learn; Lighting, sound, any action going on in the room, the time you study, even the room temperature can affect your concentration.

[*:1n5a0i5i]When you write notes, write them as simply as you can, in a bullet point format that is easy to scan/read quickly. Avoid unimportant details like the plague.[*:1n5a0i5i]Studying for hours on end is not a good idea. A break to do something else for a little bit in between is absolutely necessary. This is because after each time you study, you forget about 80 %. This means that each time you gain roughly +20 % at the most again depending again on the conditions, it's unlikely you'll be able to break that in one session.

Hope that helped. :P

I hardly ever study. High school is pretty easy if you really think about. But for those times I do need to study I require music. Loud music. Complete silence drives me insane (to the point I will literally stab my writing utensil through my homework and refuse to do it), a tv nearby distracts me, and people talking just plain annoy me. I suppose once I start college I'll end up studying far more often.

I hope I can help you, I know how hard it is to get focused to study.

How do you study? The way I study is by reading over the text, and/or then copying down all my notes into another book.

Do you have music blearing in your ears or do you have to have silence or what? My house always has noise, so I have some simple, calming music. Don't play any Metal or the likes, or you will get distracted.

My relaxation method involves a bottle of lotion, beautiful women, and partial nudity. Yes I get massages.

I have a pretty good memory and I'm someone who learns by writing...So, once I take a note down, I'll remember it for a while.

I doubt I would need to, but I still study nonetheless. I consider it just a good habit that will help one day. The easiest way I study is probably just by quizzing myself, or testing my memory. I'll memorize/outline a bunch of facts (Maybe write them down), and then try to copy them over without looking. Repeat until I know them really well. I'd say this could work well if you need to learn facts or vocab, so for like science or history. Math, well, it's by far my main subject and it just seems natural to me. And if you have a test where you have to write a long composition or something (For English or history, most likely), there's not too much you can do.

I get distracted very easily, and people talking doesn't help a bit, so I hide up in a quiet corner of my house. And if I'm just gathering my thoughts or trying to recite facts in my mind, I might close my eyes, it's more relaxing and less distracting. As for music, nice, calming music could help. Not so calming that you'll fall asleep, but some good instrumental music works great for me.

I barely ever study. But, when I do, I usually look over the stuff I need to remember first of all then think in my head what they are several times. I'll be needing to study more now that mid-terms are coming very soon.

I sit at my desk, tell myself that I won't go to bed until i've studied "x" amount in "x" courses. Low music of Coldplay or something soothes me and helps me concentrate.

Objectives are fun to reach, and sometimes you completely lose track of time and you go to bed at 4 in the morning

I always leave everything to the very last minute.

Not one essay for the last like 4 years of school and college had been completed earlier than the night before it was due in.

Egggggggggggggsactly.

And I always have TV or music on. School = easy.

catch it now so you can like it before it went so mainstream

I am studying to be a teacher so i dont really need to study at all , jk,jk so when i start a study session i plan a 'learning outcome' which is written down and specific.

such as 'by the end of this session i will be able to write a paragraph unaided on how each of these 5 happenings led to britain entering a war with germany in 1935'

This is a teaching technique so you spend your session studying towards the goal and at the end of the session you test yourself by putting away your books and seeing if you can achieve your goal

Usually its good to base the learning outcome depending on the type of exam question (i.e. short answer exam questions, short answer LO's etc).

Its good because i find people, including myself, can walk out of after a whole day studying and suddenly think they cant say one thing they achieved from studying that day. but i can say to my self (at the end of every hour), i can definately do something i couldnt do before

hope it helps!

Same with me, i can never work if i know the HW doesn't have to be handed for a while. Always do it when theres only a couple of days/hours left until hand in date and its never done my grades any harm.

But i always do it with nothing else going on, no music, no other programmes on the Computer etc.

When I study, I try to study in the exact same place every time a test comes. It's a lot easier to picture a textbook page in your head during a test when you remember the background and lighting clearly. All you need is to grab a few facts from the question and fill in where it was on the book. And no, I don't have a photographic memory, but it helps me a lot.

Flashcards are a serious help. Memorizing formulas, important dates, or just major facts are a lot easier with organized flashcards.

I have a habit of not doing much studying beforehand unless the test is huge (like finals) but even when I put off the studying, it helps to have some habits you do every time. Your brain remembers stuff easier if you have a set ritual every time you study.

tip it would pay me $500.00 to keep my clothes ON :(
But then again, you fail to realize that 101% of the people in this universe hate you. Yes, humankind's hatred against you goes beyond mathematical possibilities.
That tears it. I'm starting an animal rebellion using my mind powers. Those PETA bastards will never see it coming until the porcupines are half way up their asses.

I know that I have already posted advice, but here is another tip. Do not, at any point procrastinate, and try to cram it in the night before the exam. If you start to study about a month before the exam or whatever, you should learn it.

I try to study a week in advanced... Usually I don't have music playing since there's enough noise everywhere to not be distracting, but just enough to make me feel sane (I can't stand super quiet places).

Here's a tip: Take a break every two hours. The longer you study, the shorter your attention span is and all your studying will be for nothing if you don't pause now and again. And by break I don't mean log onto RuneScape. Just go stretch, get a healthy snack, use the restroom if you have to, then get back to work. :)

I have never studied, and have a 3.9+ GPA (dun know exact) for me, as soon as I learn something, I either know it, or understand it right away, or I'm confused the whole time we learn about it, and I've gone to the teacher, and they can't help me. But I still do pretty well. ;)

I have all the 99s, and have been playing since 2001. Comped 4/30/15

Hmm, im not an expert on this but ill try to help.

Usually, ill say what im reading out loud, line by line. If you cant get it in your memory, SCREAM IT! I personally cant cram. Learn a bit more every day, not all in one. Trust me, it helps.

If I ever need to study, I usually have to cram it. Or else I forget it all. Also I need some background noise on the rare occasion I study. If I don't, then I usually get distracted.

But for homework, I usually get it done somewhat early. Mainly because my parents nag me to do it.
