Well, i just got really curious what studios you like, or what you know about them. and.. if you can come up with a better topic name, please do say.

I'll start off.. My friend's big brother has been working at dice, on mirrors edge. But he changed company to Avalanche studios(due to crappy work-enviroment and deadlines), and is working on just cause 2. he's a graphics guy.

EA is considered this giant corporate monster which churns out games and flattens the little guy.

Whilst the little, private games companies tend to make their games with love and care.

I think it's not quite that black and white, it's somewhere in between.

I myself am a fan of Dice. Their battlefield games are my current favorite games. I also like Nintendo's own games, since they do put a lot of effort into making most of them look nice and be atleast a little bit fun to play.

I am employed by one. However I don't work at one, since I usually work from home. I have been there a few times though, and really, game companies seem to be the best places to work ever. At the one I work for the atmosphere is really relaxed, they listen to music - they're always talking and laughing. They also have a large, separate "indian themed" room, where people go to relax. They have a huge TV, a bunch of gaming consoles and games, a nice big couch. It's a kind of small company, but they've been around for quite a while (well over 10 years anyway). They were among the first to make avatar based chats! And with this new game they're gradually expanding; continuously hiring more and more people, which, in turn, keeps me and my bank account very happy!

I've been following Mirror's Edge for a while too. I'm really looking forward to it. Also a friend of mine will try to get a trainee post at Dice next year as a programmer.

My favourite all-time developer is Valve. They have a massive amount of updates and support for their games, plus they've never created a game I didn't like. Buying a Valve game is a pretty safe bet.

I don't really hate any developers. I REALLY hate a lot of publishers though.

JaGEx are actually a very good company to work for. In one of the British broadsheets they were on the 'Top 100 companies to work for' list.

That's the unique thing about the game industry, it's all very relaxed. Come to think of it, a lot of technological companies (Google comes to mind) have really modern and lax approaches to work ethic.

My Favourite Developers.

Free Radical Design.

The small company which makes the Timesplitters series (and Haze for what it matters). They are the best and they have a nice tight community and one of the best series of all time.

Ensemble Studios

The Creators of the Age of Empires series. They have closed down now after the poor sales of the AOE3 games. Before AOE3 though they rocked, pumping out the most challenging online RTS's ever. :)

Fasa Studio.

Small company which made the most recent Shadowrun game. They've shut down now, because Shadowrun wasn't a 'huge' success amongst the average gamers. But for competitive gamers it was the Bees Knees.

Could have been a lot more if they had catered for the general public aswell as the professional gamers.

Epic Games.

Creators of Gears of War and Unreal Tournament. Two great titles right there.

Blizzard

Now don't get me wrong; i'm no WoW fan, but they have made some great other Games like Warcraft 1-3 and Starcraft 1 and 2. Their RTS's are great and admittedly WoW aint half bad and if i started playing MMO's again thats what i'd play. 10 months ago though i think RS had the edge for MMO's.

Sounds like Jagex to me...

Moneyboo, you do know that microsoft kinda forced Fasa into not serving the general public with Shadowrun right? Fasa wasn't finished the game when they were forced to release it. They actually were working on a SP campaign, but MS forced them to put PC-360 compatibility instead. They also had a ton of DLC ready, but as you know, they got shut down.

Really, I'm not much of a gamer, so I'd have to say that Bungie is my favourite company. Not just because of Halo 3, but they have a real sense of humour, and are constantly changing and adding to Halo 3. I don't mean dramatic changes, so far the most dramatic I'd say has been a fix to make melee more consistent, but those small ones that regularly smooth out the bugs pretty fast. Also, because of forge and the way maps are set up, they can put community content in Match Making, along with tweak stuff like spawns very quickly. They also proved that they can create massive back stories.

There's no such thing as regret. A regret means you are unhappy with the person you are now,

and if you're unhappy with the person you are, you change yourself. That

regret will no longer be a regret, because it will help to form the new,

better you. So really, a regret isn't a regret.

It's experience.

Bullfrog productions, Cavedog entertainment (just for TA), id software (for general services to gaming) and Oddworld inhabitants (for creating Abe, screw strangers wrath)

For more modern ones, I suppose valve, and the creative assembly

Ubisoft are epic. Prob my favourite .. And Blizzard .. World of warcraft is an amazing game even if I don't like it that much. Jagex is also up there simply because of runescape. Its a well done java game.

Companies I hate are ones like bungie .. They were the ones that wanted out yet there just sat there spoon feeding ms.

Same with Epic. Ut3 was crap. Gears 2 wont be on pc due to "pirates" there the biggest bunch of [cabbage] ever IMO. Even if I still do buy there game.

Ubisoft are epic

Correct me if I'm wrong but i always thought Ubisoft was a publishing company like EA + Activision etc, unless you're talking about the inhouse developers

They also make games .. Eg Rainbow six, Ghost recon, Pop .. etc

Yeah and Prince of Persia was one of the best single player RPG's i've ever played.

I normally only play online games; but that series was like a set of films with some good gameplay ideas.
