deloriagod
Why don't you just post under your normal account? We all know you and TheChamp are the same person.. Anyways on topic: I was going to take psychology but the class was full. Ended up taking sociology this year which I think is a very valuable class. I recommend you take that if you ever get a chance. Internet Marketing For Newbies

pryomancer
No-one else has posted from his IP. :) The lie thing is like this: if you are recalling something that actually happened, you look slightly up and to the left if you are lying, obviously you have no actual memory of the event, so you look to the right and slightly up. It's to do with your brain remembering or creating what you're trying to say. I took Psychology at college, but I dropped it after 2 weeks. I learnt absolutely nothing new to me in those 2 weeks, so I thought that can't really be a great start to the course. Also there were lots of essays. justin_m23
How does appearing on CSI exclude it? I'm probably taking psychology next year for uni. Hopefully it's as interesting as it seems.

Bauke
How does appearing on CSI exclude it? I'm probably taking psychology next year for uni. Hopefully it's as interesting as it seems. It's more than simple psychological facts. You get to learn a lot about pathologies, the way the brain works, and such. But then again, it's easy as pie. You don't really have to be that bright for it, lol. I've done some psychology courses in my medical biology study, and well.. it's not really that much. Seems like a basic Psychology fact to me :? I took Psychology for one year, it was quite interesting, we went into the basics of each topic pretty much. But it wasn't really my type of thing, a bit too much of a theoretical practice for my liking. [insert birds flying in a circle here]Yes, that sig was annoying. BlueLancer
Heh, learnt plenty at poker tables over the years... When someone is telling a blatant lie, for some reason they 'brush' their upper lip with their finger, or cough & look down after the act. Not that you can apply psychology on everyone... There are a lot of people at the emotional level of a psychopath who will show no remorse or signs of lying, you just can't know if they're telling you the truth. They don't use body language, move at all, they just stare blankly at you. Now that's skill, I can't achieve that yet but maybe some day..

It's relatively easy to drain your face of all emotion--true skill lies in laying down false signs and using fake body language to throw off your opponent. That way, you can still lie, and people won't think of you as a sociopath. But I don't want to go among mad people!Oh, you can't help that. We're all mad here..." dusqi
I think that the looking up and to the left/right is not accurate. It is based on the idea of the right/left sides of the brain doing different things (one being creative, one not), and then the assumption that eye movements actually reflect which part of the brain is being activated. For a start, left-handed people tend to have opposite brain areas. For another thing, even among right-handed people not everyone has the same brain topology. For a final thing, I'm not sure I've ever seen any evidence that eye movements are linked to which part of the brain is being "accessed". Randox
When you observe someone doing something, you assume they do it because they want to. Say someone is being an [wagon], you dont assume that maybe a close friend died, you assume they are just an [wagon]. When you do something, you use circumstances to justify your actions. Basicly because you know your cicumstances, you use them to justify actions. Because you do not know someone ellses circumstances, you assume they are motivated by self desire. The normal human brain has some capacity to understand and simulate another persons emotions by reading body language, mostly facial expression. Your brain takes say a facial expression, and then works backwards to determine what emotion would produce that facial expression. Because body language is fairly universal (natural body language) you can make such things as hand gentures to comunicate in a basic way using empathy. If you're taking an AP course you should know how to spell school... To contribute: I haven't taken any psychology courses, but recently I went to see a psychiatrist (don't ask why) who tried horribly to use reverse psychology to get information out of me. Funny thing was I was telling the truth and she was pretty obvious about it.
hellbellz
I wish to take psychology next year as a Junior. I love how the human brain works, even if we only know 10% of what's going on. I also love to know how to tell if someone is lying, but the signs are pretty obvious that progress as you get older.

When someone is telling a blatant lie, for some reason they 'brush' their upper lip with their finger, or cough & look down after the act. Hah, I learned that from Monk. And now I do it myself. For a long time, I was a terrible liar, but now...I can kind of clear my face of all emotion pretty easily. I have no idea how, I have no idea why...Maybe because I'm so impassive and apathetic. :? My sister started this year taking basic Psych, she hated it. She tried getting into AP Psych, the class was full. I can never remember if my mom was a psychiatrist or psychologist, I think psychologist. So it kind of runs in the family. But I'm the odd one out, I will never, ever consider going into the medical field. Just can't stand it. Ren0gade
I have taken a bunch of Psychology courses at the University i am enrolled in as well as A.P. in highschool... Some really interesting stuff to study in the field are things like Schizophrenia and D.I.D. (Multiple Personality Disorder). If you want a pretty interesting red i would check out First Person Plural. It's written by this guy with D.I.D. It is a pretty graphic story though but a good one :) Masta Chef Drops-- Dragon: Medium(2),Spear(1),Legs(2),Skirt(1) Pharaoh's Scepter(1) Barrows items(10 total)
