i have been training my slayer a lot lately but i am also especially concious of my money supply so i just quit using prayer pots for medium level monsters. so far i have done 2 abby spec tasks (both nearly 200), 3 goraks tasks (maybe 150 all up) and a waterfiends task (187)

i find spectres alot easier with prayer, same as waterfiends as you usually make your money back on both. But goraks i prefer to guthan and bunyip together, much easier.

I don't use prayer potions on most of the slayer tasks I get. Ofcourse I still use them on such assignements as waterfiends and spectres but most of the time I find guthans is good enough to get me through the task with minimal banking. I wouldn't say you should stop using prayer potions all together but just use them on tasks where it would be extremely inefficient without them for example, Black Demons can be pain to kill in large numbers quickly without the aid of prayer potions.

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

I think that what you're saying on trying medium level monsters without using prayer potions first of all is a good idea, this way you can test whether you would be going overkill if you had used prayer potions whereas a bunyip and/or guthans would have worked just as well in that situation.

I highly recommend learning how to pray flash. You can sometimes get through tasks without using a single prayer pot! Especially for tasks like black demons where it's easy to predict the attacks. Hope I helped.

yea practice on weak nooby monsters pray flashing then try it out, i got 50 kill using 70 p points on tzaar citizens, id highly recommend it, good luck btw :D

i agree with your first 2 paragraphs but water fiends are the same for me, its easy enough to tele to shilo or whatever, recharge summoning points, bank, and tele back to barbarian outpost and get back into your task

Once you get bunyips, prayer is only needed for high level monster tasks, and even on those you can pray flash. Guthans also takes out the need for prayer for many tasks.

 

 

 

The only thing I use prayer for is cannon tasks (mutated bloodvelds, warped terrorbirds, etc) and multi-combat agro areas (dagannoths in Chaos Tunnels).

I only pray on spiritual mages and dark beasts. Otherwise I use guthans. I also only use a bunyip on waterfiends.

agreed.experement, see what wotks for you. the only reason i pray on specteres anymore is because i use a macaw there, HUGE improvement in quality of herbs.

You use prayer to get your tasks done more quickly. People like me, who actually want more than 5k slayer exp an hour, refuse to bank during a task. Now, there are obvious exceptions, such as spectres, but generally you want to stick around and get the task done more quickly.

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

What are these medium level monsters that you're told to pray at? Just spectres and goraks? If you've done Smoking Kills and you have a cannon, it's best to do spectres in the desert dungeon. Tasks take 30 minutes tops, extremely fast banking, and you always make a profit.

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

The higher your slayer level gets, the more money you make. Getting tasks done quicker allows you to accumulate wealth much more quickly. You spend money to make much more. I know it seems like a GREAT IDEAR to save on pray potions, barrows, all that good (and I do mean good) stuff, but you're shooting yourself in the foot.

I never use prayer at aberrant specters any more. I take a terror bird loaded with cheap food (trout or salmon), am loaded myself with the same stuff, have a cheap anti-magic outfit, and do an average task in two or three trips.

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

Carrying a ring of duelling and ring of slayer in your inventory basically means aberrant specters are right next to the bank.

not necessarily, its a matter of personal opinion, i didnt say that my main priority was slayer experience, i do save a lot of money on prayer pots

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

and im honestly not concerned with the extra 1k exp an hour which will add to me getting 0.1% closer to 85 slayer per level i get. and will eventually enable me to make more money in the unlikely event this happens. ill just save the money now

Personally I pray on them, quite simply because I only use about 3 prayer pots per trip, which I make back in ranarr drops. This is better than carrying food around, and I'd rather have a BoB for herb drops over a Bunyip.

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

As for cannoning them, they are one of the few monsters I don't cannon. Seriously you have to chase off after drops all the time as they mage you. Far too much hassle for what otherwise can be a nice relaxed task.

I really wonder how you can stand combat familairs? - By the time they finally attack I've finished most monsters already, or (in case I didn't finish them) they're so strong that -at least the karamthulu overlord- doesn't do any real damage!

specters are about the only thing I pray at: simply because their distant attack is longer than any bow can reach! (Yes I WILL fight with a longbow on long range if that extends the range just that littlebit that I can safespot without getting damaged myself).

I use it for specs, metal dragons (melee only), waterfiends, and other times where melee def armor/range def armor isn't enough.

hmm I know about that tactic: it's similar to a cannon.. And I have a similar hatred for such tactics, requires too much micromanagement.. (often after some time the familair will stop attacking the monster since you don't attack it anymore).

Whenever you attack a monster, call your familiar. It'll start to attack whatever is attacking you.

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

When you let your familiar finish off a monster, it'll keep attacking that monster as long as the monster is attacking either it, or you. Familiars don't work with ranged because the monsters can't hit you.

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

If you still have problems after this, urdoinitrong.

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

And the Overlord is pretty badass for the level. It really speeds up tasks if you use it properly, as I've explained above.

You said it yourself, it isn't as time efficient, most slayers wants serious slayer xp which leads them to do whatever yields the most efficient slayer xp.
