How did you Feel after a long break from playing?

Featured Replies

About a week ago i decided to come back to playing runescape after about a year from playing. i thought it was a good time because i had alot of off time and couldnt really move anywhere, let me explain. about a year ago i join the United States Army as an MP. Bootcamp and everything was fine and i was one in my squad that was having fun as my family wasnt the most well off and i got to travel the world(Japan, Alaska, Germany, UK, Iraq) well i was having my fun untill about 4 months ago when my squad was at a check point and everything was going fine. A tiny POS little car came flyin up like a bat out of hell and opened fire. i was struck twice in the left leg, once in the calf and once in the knee and went down like a ton of bricks. We managed to suppress the ambush and neutralize the threat but i was down. I was flown out and received the best medical care as the doctors took the extra time to save my leg as they knew i needed it in civilian life as a police officer. After about 2 months of recovery i was HD and sent home to rest. The nature of my injury had me recovering for the next 3 months or so and im kinda home bound atm.

So i decided to jump back on runescape again. took about 3 days to recover the password and that was a bit shocking but the main page had changed so i thought all the steps and had it back. look to my joy that it was cleaned out and everything i had on there was gone(35m+ from barrows). i did have a fire cape which i thought was cool but i had bigger fish to fry. i began wandering around lumby like a newb again asking for help getting around and basking in the updates, i had forgotten how to do anything so i logged out and started a new player for tutorial island, and to my shock it was gone!!! That fun place that my friends and i had run around back in the day trying to figure out what to do, safe from the harsh world. Sad as i was i did the new little quest thing they had, not as good but o well everyone has there own opinion.

I then began to train range again from the kindness of strangers(mage bow, dhide armor) and the new shop feature of buy any amount, which i thought was great. So im ranging blues and i get one of the rare clue scrolls and im excited, as i remember clues were hard but the reward was great. so i run off to edgeville and put everything away grab the spade, watch, spade and nothing extra as to not die from pkers. Im haulin [wagon] to the clue, hiding here, jumping away when i saw any dot, all the way to the mage hut at lvl 55. when i arrived i was shocked, no wars, no last breaths from fallen comrades, nothing. I just thought i was lucky and kept running. Later i was to find out that they abolished the wild and pvp?! Whats the fun in wild clues if theres no risk?! that was the fun of the thing. I saw a guy with a phat up there alching with his friend? I couldn't believe my eyes. Sad sad day for RS2 but i cant do anything about it so I kept going to Varrok to sell my clue reward and found the Grand Exchange. I have a few words for it being that it is both good and bad, made it easy to get items and sell but took the fun of finding that good deal among the thousands of other deals.

Well other than that and summoning which i haven't done yet so I don't feel i can rant or rave yet im just both sad and happy in the direction that RS2 has gone, both in the fast that they are listening to us and making things easier and the fast that took pking out which took all the scare out of the wild, why call it the wild if theres nothing up there to worry about? and yes iv learned of reverants but wow if you run guess what? Nothing while a good pker would have you down crying to momma. Thats just a few things i needed to say While ranging those fire giants(97range atm) and if any of you have come off a break id like to hear how you got back into things and how the community is faring?

Interesting read, sorry bout your leg! :?

Did you seriously see someone in a phat alching in the Wildy? And didn't see any revs...? That seems odd to me.

And you say they deleted PvP when the top update on the front page of RS is the PvP world updates?

But yeah, RS has changed, a lot, and it must be odd/hard to come back to it after so long, but really, after a rough period I think RS has improved considerably.

I took a break from RS a while back, but not much had changed when I got back, I remember taking a little time to get back into the swing of things, most memorably forgetting the names of thing, and asking an old mate (one of the few that were still playing,) "I need to get to castle wars... what's the name of the enchanted green ring again?" But anyway, once I'd got back into the general swing of things, remembered locations and names of items it didn't take long to adapt to the new updates. However, you left before a period of huuge change for Runescape. Weren't you amazed at HD? Shocked at GE?

To answer your question ya i say a guy alching in wild, my mage hut in gold armor and yellow phat, weird right? And i ment pking the old way, where every world was fair game and you were always at risk to attack.

I did tutorial island yesterday and it was the same as always...

Some people gets to do tutorial island, and some get to do the Lumby quest.

I think that's how it works.

What a coincidence that last week I also came back to RS also after around a year of not playing. Well, I quite liked the GE, though I see that wildy agility course training is ruined (ah well, can't argue with the facts that there hardly was anyone even those days) with people having at least 70 agility all around (maybe it was the fear factor and not the pking factor that prevented them?).

Anyway, I also liked the trade limits, particulary useful against mass-botting and item [drop-]trading, on the other hand I still don't have much idea about most new items. And summoning seems a good skill (if you have money to invest).

Just my opinion. Those few days around I was mostly questing, a little skilling and a little PvM.

Good to be gone :)

From 2001(when I started playing) to 2006 when I played a lot more, my whole career was a huge series of breaks. I absolutely loved the fact that I came back to a whole different game every time I logged back in. :D

I just recently had to take a two month break and (it could be the CB and PvP updates and their ripple down effects) but I have not been happier with the game.

Changes aren't always bad. :)

Man, I really do love Runescape, and I'm sure if it was a real person I would of asked it to marry me by now.

Having had a leave of absence myself I can say that coming back is mostly what I expected it to be - a return to an old friend that has grown up a bit and got a couple of new tricks up their sleave, but which is still mostly what I remember them to be and I'm grateful for it. Content and look has changed but the basic core 'fun' of the game is still there so I'm happy

so i kept up to date on everything. Now i am doing cw and barrows and feel it was 4* as more fun than when i have been playing for ages but i reckon it will get very boring. It feels good to start playing rs again :)

Sometimes it feels better to come back, and you get some more inspiration to play and work on your goals. ;)

I came back after a year long break with no cash either...and honestly, I don't like it. I used to like runescape because although the audience was geared at younger kids, there was very little-restriction to what you could do. Now the game is full of restrictions all just to get rid of a problem that in my opinion, wasn't that severe.

I came back with no cash as well, and the reason is I gave it all away to friends before I quit. Now I can't have them loan me some back, all because of these restrictions. LAME..

One day, you'll find out runescape is a waste of time anyway...which is good because you have a lot of time to waste(goodluck healing)

I think people that quit and dump all of their stuff need to really think about that decision, I've done it before and said I've never come back but situations change and you never know when you might want to start playing again. Recently I've been playing less, only logging on a couple times a week to top up my MTK. I have goals, but I don't feel like doing them right now. A year ago I might've sold all my stuff and bought a rare and called it quits, but I find for me it is much better just to wind down rather than suddenly stop.

I think to myself "omg why did I take that long of a break, I could have been scaping!!!!"

This is exactly what I'm doing. I log in to take care of MTK, and maybe do a little bit of random skilling. I'm too busy right now, but I still want to complete my Runescape goals, so I take it pretty easy.

To put it bluntly, [bleep] off.

I started playing Runescape in 2003. I played for just under a year, then I got Shadowbane for Christmas (another MMO that was P2P back then) and abandoned RuneScape to go play that instead. That game was loads of fun because of the intense PvP and great community, but eventually I grew bored of it (there's absolutely nothing but PvP there). I came back to RuneScape in late 2005, and I made a new account to play on. 8-)

At first it took a bit of getting used to, since this game was mostly skilling and I was no longer used to that. The combat was a step down than what I was used to as well, but I liked the casual gaming. Nothing too serious, just an hour or two a day of goblin killing and Demon slaying. In 2006 SB became F2P and we were invaded by Asian players whom most did not speak English and were very annoying, so I quit and started playing RuneScape full-time.

I was amazed to see how crappy the community was and how many rule breakers (of all rules) and macroers were running around, but I had become friends with a great group of people and that kept me playing. ::'

It was very nice to see the game getting new game content nearly every week, and I fell in love with questing and mini-games. The constant grinding for levels wasn't all that fun but I saw it as a challenge, and the diversity of skills was fun as well.

So here I am, 3 years later. I still play, although not as much as before. I've taken many breaks from the game, but this has been the only MMO that would always bring me back for more than a couple of weeks.

Pretty much what Dragon said.

Thread terminated.

I guess that means I'm the thread Terminator?

No Tip.Iters were harmed in the making of this post.

I quit for almost 4 years, and when I came back there was so many new things to check out it had me occupied for quite awhile. It felt new again, and with the addition of HD, that was even better (no way could I play RS on the compact version it had before) I still haven't gotten around to doing everything that I missed.

I personally dislike the new and "improved" RS.

I think it lacks the dedication of classic RS. Everything is WAY to easy now. All the old players have left, the people that have been there since the beggining like me. Almost 6 years i have been playing this game, and if i started a new charecter now, i would be at my same level in 1/10th the time it took me in 02.

Mining is probably the cheapest and easiest way to make money still. Not to mention all you have to do is click once til you get an ore now. Whats with that, to lazy to click untill you get ore? I broke like 3 mice on this game. Now i could be a lvl 60 in 4 days if i wanted to.

Heck, i was around before RUNE. When Adam was the best you could wear and people trained range at the guild on the chickens across the fence lmao.

When there was no wildy, and you went to train on Greater Demons for exp. Coal sold for 400 each and there was 3 worlds. When fishing was a 60 gold round trip process to the island and back, and bannanas kept you alive while you were there. If i could convice Andy and them to let me play classic again, i would. I have tried, they said no.

All in all, i would trade this new, "improved" RS for classic any day!

Any questions about the days of old? Feel free to add me and ask away. Be glad your laziness paid off. Thank Andrew for making RS easier for everyone!

I always take around 1-2 month breaks from RS because my members runs out.

I don't find F2P worth playing so I get a nice break from RS. :D

But when I come back, it seems like a whole new world.

Even a few updates can change everything. (Especially prices)

I always feels weird coming back to RS after a hiatus, but I always welcome new challenges.

99 Defence - 6/19/09! 44,012 to reach it!

Aiming for 2000 Total Lvl!

The game looked like crap after I came back from my longest break ever.

Probably one of RS's biggest updates had come out, RS2 and I didn't like it at all, I logged in and logged out. Took me another week to just give it a shot.

Now I still play in that standard version, RS lags in HD and I just don't like HD. :-w

I never really take any long breaks anymore, I don't play much but I always check prices and updates.
