What's that obnoxious stench? (Updated)

Similar to what I mentioned in my previous post, I had someone earlier today/yesterday threaten to report me for being a bot. Been up for about twenty hours, so days run together. Haven't played RS in about five hours though. Anyhow. I have seen people that were bots training melee before. It can be rather obvious after a little observation if it is a bot. But seriously, can a bot alch, pick up bones and bury them. Run around sniping and safe spot like a person while ranging? Maybe they can, I wouldn't think so though.

Some people are just looking for reasons to report people. I know OP is on the level and am pretty sure not that way. They seem to have more sense than these people that show up, been where you are and already talking about reporting you after only being around for thirty seconds. But I just didn't feel like talking to this person. I am real anal about the first thing someone says to me. And when they say it, I will not talk to them period usually.

I know this is slightly off topic, but I get it a lot. Because I don't talk a lot. But then a lot of people, the first thing out of there mouth grinds my nerves, even though it really shouldn't probably. So, being as there are so many idiots on the game I get that threat a lot. To be reported for being a bot that is.

I was not aware that Jagex keeps tabs on those accounts that they suspect of using macro's. That being the case, perhaps the reason the accounts the OP reported are still around is because they are being investigated currently?

Is it not reasonable to assume that Jagex will take a few weeks, or maybe even a few months either before they get round to looking at your reports, or before they have enough evidence to safetly assume that said players are "botting"?

Customer Support and appeals always take a battering yet we complain that Jagex don't work fast enough to counter players breaking the rules. Perhaps in instances such as these there is a happy medium, in which time and care are taken to ensure that bans are fair?

My advice therefore would be to stop constantly reporting the same players - give Jagex a chance to assess the situation.

I don't mean to nitpick, but I think we're getting a wee bit off topic with people's sleeping habits.

After reading your rant (which was well written btw) I'd have to agree. This has got a bit off topic, yes some players might be able to go without sleep. Whether or not people go without sleep to play long hours would have nothing to do with how people react or don't react to random events. I have seen exactly what she is talking about first hand. It doesn't take a rocket scientist to figure out which accounts are programs and which are actual people. As for people doing this sleep deprivation technique... Yes it is possible, but I doubt too many people practice this. 1% of players may do this, if that. Just say " NO " to cheating. :shame:

One of the best rant's I've seen in a while, possible the best I've seen from someone new here.

The only thing I really disagreed with was mod's cracking down. A J mod could probably do it, but a player mod isn't going to report a level 120 or so account blindly because there's a good chance they may be autoing. That's the main problem with people autoing on their account, it's not like they're a level 3 named hiouh8976 (randomly hit the keyboard, I don't think it's a real name).

That being said, someone acting like a player in your examples is pretty obviously using an autoing program and should have action taken against them.

I hope they get permanently banned (or better yet, computer address banned), it's terrible that people use these bot programs.

Yes, that sig was annoying.

omg i love your post. i for one have noticed the increasing # of high lvls cheating,

I have woodcutting lvl 81

and fishing 76

I ave worked very very hard for them and you can imagin the excitement on my face when i hit 76 fishing quote*W000000000TTTT SHARRRRRRKKSS!!!!!!!!* un quote.

i have wanted to be a mod for sooo long because i have seen scam/hack/bot soo much.

now im not saying im perfect, sure ive sworn a few times but thats natural, we all get a little ticked at one time or another, ive tried scamming people from one time or antoher(it never worked i wasn't very good) but come on that was back before trade barriers and we all tried it back then..

i remember the times way back when, when my friend and i (my friend no longer plays) used to surf the web looking for cheats cause we wanted money/santa/phat/etc...

but i digress

the point is that we are not all perfect the difference is if we admit it, or better yet, if we admit we were wrong, which i was but jagex needs to trust more people with crowns to rid runescape of the filth it has accumulated over the years.

any way good point and i agree keep up the good rant

Lol @ people who adjust their sleeping habits just to play a bit more RuneScape. It's not like you'll achieve anything that affects your post-RuneScape playing, but you will regret screwing up your life in that phase.

Jagex needs more professionals, people hired to kill rulebreakers, instead of some of these monkeys they appoint. It can't be anything but a lottery.

All of your points are amazing, well supported, and HALARIOUS!! I agree with you that there should be more mods. The last mod I have seen was at Catherby in June 2008. I think the mod ratio is close to 1:10,000 players (this # is my estimate not Jagex's) witch is kinda sad. It should be at LEAST 1:2000.

I hope you know all those lvl 3 noobs woodcutting all the time were being controlled by just a handful of people. Someone in Japan apparantly made a modified client in Java, which allowed him to log 100+ accounts in at the same time. Ofcourse he didn't share his program, else Runescape would have been completely trashed.

It's not like you ever had a choice to begin with.

I gotta type this quick, before my teacher notices and I get in trouble. But have to say, this rant was very well written. Despite the fact it was a bit wall of text-ish, it was entertaining, so plus 50 points for you, thedra.

Anyway, I wanted to say that I know somebody irl that bots. He's on his way to 99 fishing. I have told him a hundred times not to, but he's just gonna keep going. I'm trying to get his account name, so I can report him. He's a jerk in real life anyway. :P

Is there any evidence for this from a reputable source? I semi-doubt it, but it does make me wonder...

Anyhow, I like programming in Java, and I've had fun programming with Java's robot class. It's able to take screenshots, move the mouse, input to keyboard, etc. I haven't tried to write a macro with it yet, however the logic is pretty straight forward - until you get to random events. Those would be a challenge, espescially depending on the scenario. One thing that has kept me from writing macros is because I don't know whether java applets can see the other classes that run or not - and having the robot class off and running is a sure sign of macroing. I know that most macros use scripting and not java, but whatever.

99 dungeoneering achieved, thanks to everyone that celebrated with me!

The macros you see these days are most likely Pascal ones. There is ofcourse a group of people that make functions for this, especially for Runescape botting. That's why, when it's actually a good script, it can easily overcome most randoms, heal poison etc.

But only respected members of said community have acces to those well-written script. Obviously those fishers got a crappy Junior Member script. From what I read here, even I could write a better one, given a few days.

Yes, I admit having researched it, but only because I'm an IT student and a Runescape player myself. I'm not autoing, if that's what you think.

It's not like you ever had a choice to begin with.

You've just given me the greatest idea to improve my daily productivity. If this can be done for a week straight, Ill be able to nap on the bus to and from school, at lunch, and throughout the night, and will become an unstoppable robot.

More time with friends, more time for school, more time for runescape.

Sleep is an invaluable waste of my time.

This is possible - but the week you take adjusting to this will be absolute hell. I would not recommend doing this.

you know you're obsessed with runescape when you sacrifice a bodily need with getting a 99.

you can always just take cocaine. that stuff will make you want to stay up for days. weeks maybe. oh yeah you don't want teeth, control of nasal canal, or a brain without holes do you?

runescape= your anti-drug that just happens to become like a drug.

hehe get that quote from my thread? or just coincidence

There are only three ways I can think of for someone to gain that much experience in a 24 hour period.

1. Using a program to have that account fishing 24 straight hours. An offense you can be banned for.

2. Multiple people logging onto that account to keep it fishing 24 straight hours. Another offense you can be banned for.

3. You have no life. Therefore, you sit in your parents basement and play RuneScape until the men in white coats show up and throw a butterfly net over you!

[/hide]

That's not true. It is possible to play nearly 24 hours by using polyphasic sleep. Polyphasic sleep is the secret trick people very high on highscores list use to gain insane amounts of exp everyday. It consists of sleeping ~30 minutes, every four hours. The body, instead of wasting time at lower phases of sleep like it does with normal sleeping, goes directly to deep regenerating sleep. Meaning you can effectively stay awake 21 hours a day, and still feel just fine. Leonardo da Vinci and other known figures practiced it, and it's said to give one's a boost of creativity. It's even possible to just sleep 10 minutes every 4 hours when your body is used to it, meaning you can stay up 23 hours. This is why the length of time played a day, or the amount of exp is not incriminating, it's suspicious only to those who don't understand how it's done.

First off, that's very doubtful to me, as a psychology student, that most of the people who play Runescape can manage a feat like this. Second, it doesn't work for any long length of time - the body simply cannot go directly into REM or stage 4 sleep instantly like that. Also, you've got the creativity part backwards - it's the MORE you try to get by on polyphasic sleep, the LESS creativity you will have. There's also studies suggesting that it can kill some of the brain cells that regulate the normal sleep cycle, permanently "messing up" your sleep patterns for months, possibly even the rest of your life.

And before you pull out your bashing hammers, remember to cite your sources! Here's mine: http://www.supermemo.com/articles/polyphasic.htm#Polyphasic%20sleep

Indian buddhist monks sleep for only 4 hours a day. In fact, i usually sleep for just 6.!

Think about it, a THIRD of your life has gone ! (if you sleep 8 hours a dy that is).

If you live to the ripe old age of 90, thats 30 years of sleeping.

Every once in a while I seem to get a reality check.

I never would have guessed.

Looking at your title, I was guessing to be reading about the maturity of players in the fishing guild has degraded.

I was completely blown away by what you have stated.

My only advice is to you is to click the report abuse button. Why? Well, it is quite possible that everyone is thinking, "What good will it do?" If there's at least one person who reports, then the bot would be gone. It's like recycling. One person can't change the world, but they can change a bunch of people who together can change the world.
