No_99_Melee
Do you guys think the lottery is worth it or just a waste of money? What would you do if you won? In my opinion it's great because it offers you a chance to better your life for one measley dollar. If I one I'd invest it and live off the interest. I don't need that much money... (I doubt my opinion would be the same if I actually won.)
redhaloguy
My parents do the lottery thing and have been for over 5 years. Make a little cash but in the end aren't really making money. If you do things right people won't be sure you've done anything at all.
Nadril
If you enjoy gambling, fine. But really you're going to end up probably earning around the same as you lost in the end. Don't even bother trying if you're just in it to "win it big"
llamster
Stoning someone every year for a traditional ritual isn't worth it, IMO. Ah, this reminds me about the noob on the Runescape forums who was upset with the quest "Cold War" because apparently his grandparents died in the war. :wall:
Lenticular_J
Always fun to buy a bunch of tickets with a bunch of friends. Specially the Texas lottery. It's at 37 million this week. catch it now so you can like it before it went so mainstream
IGoddessI
Depends how you look at it. You could go, I have a " " chance in the world in getting it so I might not bother. Or you could choose to view it that you have the same chance as everyone else. And I don't think it's a waste of money. Then again I do know someone who won the local jackpot in Auslottery a few years back. I'm not going to mention names but they bought Brent and I nearly everything in our house so I'm really grateful for that. They also supply us with everything we need for the baby so nothing comes out of our own pocket. There's something you never knew! And if it counts for something, I'm putting my entry in for the 30+ million. Did I mention it was the first ever ticket they bought too? How anal is that!!! It's just luck really. IGoddessI
By the way, just throwing it out there but if you live in Australia and are over 18 years of age and you sign up to the main lotto page with your email address you get 2 free tickets in to the 30 million dollar draw. Google is your friend. I also found a decent survey site that pays between $2 and $10 per survey you complete. There are so many dodgy bogus one's out there that I was quite surprised when I came across one that actually pays. Let me know if you want it. Hopefully I just made one of you a quick buck lol The only people who tell you that you can't do something are those who have already given up on their own dreams so feel the need to discourage yours. magekillr
The HOPE Scholarship, created in 1993 by the state of Georgia legislature, is a university scholarship program that has been adopted by several other states. HOPE (a reverse acronym for "helping outstanding pupils educationally") is funded entirely by the revenue from the state lottery and is administered by the Georgia Student Finance Commission. Ask them if the lottery is a waste of time and money. In my opinion, more programs like this need to be implemented.
Guest
Waste of money for "constant spenders". If you've ever worked at a convience store, you'd know how much people can blow on lottery. Honestly, ive seen people blow two, three hundred dollars on the lottery. And its always the same people, too! I understand one ticket, two or three occasionally, but ive see people buy 15 tickets every week! And statistically, your going to lose money. Spliting even, still, the odds are agaisnt you. People really need to learn not to abuse the lottery, and then it can be a good thing. Again, use it, don't abuse it Edit: When im old enough, sure i plan to enter the lottery once in a while. It looks like fun, and i imagine winning $30 million can be really fun :P
obfuscator
Nothing wrong with it, really. It's just that it can be such a huge money drain since it's highly unlikely you will ever win. Star_Fox
the stakes are low so i wouldn't call it a waste of money. the only thing thats keeping back is the low chance of winning it big.

Harakiri
My mom won a hundred bucks from a scratch ticket. Stilev
i look at it as, dont expect to win, if you think you can win it, your ganna get sucked into the thing, but if you do it for kicks every now and then i'd say its fine, if i won, i dunno what i'd do if i won, with like 20k i could buy pretty much everything i want (most of going towards a car), rest just go in the bank

IGoddessI
Must admit you do get a warm, fuzzy feeling inside when you hear something like a single, brissy mum winning it big time :D You know it's going to someone who needs it. Although I can't deny, I always wish it were I  Heard a while ago that a homeless man won a million dollar house, that was kind of good timing too. Returned3
My parents do it every week. Greatest amount won was $7000. For me, when I'm old enough I'd rather bet on soccer results. Being a soccer fan, it is easier for me to score big on those. 00:00:0500:00:0400:00:0300:00:0200:00:0100:00:00 Break the Walls down!

The motivational factor behind the lottery for me is that it's so cheap - that's why I would make sure not to buy too many tickets because by spending too much, that factor disappears. BlueLancer
I've played poker for years, went through countless tens of thousands of dealed hands & only encountered a single 'royal flush' (except in a table which I wasn't playing).. The odds of that are roughly 1 in 500,000... And none at all in live, non-online play. A lottery with 10 numbers has about 1 in ~15 million chance of winning... Even less in the lotteries with more numbers. The odds are *always* against you blatantly. The lottery does a lot of good like funding scholarships and public services in some countries.. But they also prey on superstitious people who somehow believe they "deserve" some divine reward or 'they' will hit the jackpot. Except for harmless entertainment, the lottery is worthless. I feel sorry for those people spending hundreds of dollars a week on it, thinking they're improving their odds (technically they are, but it's such a pathetically low part of a % it's not even worth mentioning)
Riku3220
If you bought every one of those 3 number lottery tickets from 000 to 999 you'd have a 100% chance to win. I don't see why anyone doesn't do this because you'd spen $10,000 at most and you'd win ~$35M...

I don't see why anyone doesn't do this because you'd spen $10,000 at most and you'd win ~$35M... I don't think there's a single 3-digit large scale lottery in the world... Plus you're forgetting that double digit numbers can be included in 1 ball.. The odds of winning are thus astronomically low (counted in the tens/hundreds of millions to 1) For example, from the official site of the Powerball lottery in the USA: http://www.powerball.com/powerball/pb_prizes.asp Due to the prize amounts there isn't any way to cheat the system and gain a profit. Even if only single digits were involved & you played on odds, (such as purchasing 80% of all 4 digit numbers), you'd still lose in the long term (and not to mention, in this lottery you need 4 numbers and the special red number to get $10,000) Buying 80% of the tickets in the long run: 4 times out of 5: You win $40,000 with an investment of $32,000 (total profit every round: $2,000) 1 times out of 5: You win nothing with an investment of $8,000 (total profits from earlier 4 rounds nulled) Not to mention statistics only even out after a large sample.. You could hit a bad streak and lose 10 times in a row after winning 5 times. You can't cheat the lottery, and the odds are ridiculous. Just don't bother

Only lottery like that is Pick 3, at least in Canada anyways. and the top prize usually doesnt exceed $1000. Oh, (again, in canada) the lottery is usually below $20,000,000, usually below $15,000,000. And thats lotto 649. Your chances of winning the grand prize for that is 49 to the power of 6, or 49x49x49x49x49x49. In other words, to ensure you win the lottery, your going to spend about $80 million.
