What's the point?

Even if you have colored paper to use it on it still doesn't come out right...

very true actually, Im sure someone really good at drawing could explain some complex use involving shading lol.

Orthodoxy is unconciousness

the only ones who should kill are those who are prepared to be killed.

It helps a lot with blending. Or you could color the white over some other color you used to get a "fuller" color.

So without other crayons it's pointless?

Is it just wax because it never works by itself?

It's only really useful on black construction paper.

And making other colors appear lighter/brighter/shinier.

Other than that, it's rather useless.

Yep, I've used it on black cons paper before

[iNSERT "I R EATIN TEH SHIX ATM" BILL COSBY SIGNATURE GIF HERE, LOL]

...Just buy black paper.

EDIT: Dammit, got beaten to the punch. Kinda.

catch it now so you can like it before it went so mainstream

So, this is what OT discussions have become.....

LOL

It doesn't have to be black paper. It just needs to be any dark color.

But if you use black paper, the black crayon is then useless.

If you bought red paper, the red crayon is useless.

If you bought blue paper, the blue crayon is useless and so on.

Are you saying that all crayons are useless D:

I did too, heh. Something like "Whites protest use of 'white' crayon; demand rename to flesh". Or something.

Still alive, still alive.

Why the hell is this even important enough to have its own thread??!

Not really. I still find crayons interesting to work with. They don't give you as much of a "sophisticated" and "refined" look as you might want for something to go in an art show, but when you just want to get a new look they're great :)

So I don't sue Crayola (or any other crayon producers) for discriminating against white.

Err use your imagination. The white crayon can be used to lighten the other colours. If you're artistic you can apply it to add "glare" to your picture or make it look reflective. You could draw a picture or write something and go over it in paint/ink (ta-da the white then shows up). Or you could apply some common sense and use it on a dark background. Sure it's probably one of the least used in the crayon box but that doesn't label the white crayon as completely useless.

The only people who tell you that you can't do something are those who have already given up on their own dreams so feel the need to discourage yours.

As has been said already, white crayons are used mostly for blending and shading, but from what I know, black ones don't help much on black paper, as they are actually too strong and will turn anything into gray instead of shading it. However I'm just saying that from experience with pastels (Not oil) so I could be wrong.

I'd always use the white crayon to draw people. It would come out on the paper, lightly, but you could still see it.
