Using distance is kind of dumb, because things that have the potential to kill you but are far away wouldn't be able to kill you, under that logic. For example, a nuke on Mars. If you're chasing after it, eventually you'll come across an area that is still too hot to live in. Actually, this thread kind of doesn't work.
