I'd love to be in beta.

Can you tell us what the new features are, or are you sworn to secrecy?

Are the online games running stable?

Plus, what sort of games are there, is it player+his Bot army vs player+his bot army, or is it player army vs player army?

There's new animations for weapon swings and whatnot, which is pretty hard to get used to (I'm still not - so I miss swings constantly), updated textures for some of the armours - brigadines aren't purple anymore, some other ones got updated. There's currently (I think) 4 or 5 maps that are playable, with servers rules that can be set like manual blocking and whatnot.

Are the online games running stable?

Surprisingly enough, yea. There are some bugs that pop up every once in a while - crashes that have to do with the game not finding a skeleton mesh or something, as well as your body flying in the air when you die, which is pretty funny, but the servers are pretty stable. People's pings are extremely varied, though, but I suppose that's because there are a lot of international players that got invs to the Beta, while there are only servers on the east coast of NA that I know of.

Most games are solely Player vs Player, which is extremely hard. A lot of people aren't using cavalry as well, since at first everyone was using it and it was a bit ridiculous. The inf will form up and guard the archers/crossbowmen, and use pikes to kill horsemen as they ride by. Quite fun.

Do arrows like to get stuck in the air? Mine do that all the time in my game, and it really makes me ANGRY. I've used a dozen arrows without a hit before, aiming right at the guy - all because of invisible shields or something. Oh well. My balanced war scythe is pretty much a one-hit kill. I'm fighting off a massive Swadian army from one of my friends' castles with about 100 Rhodoks total. There are 900 Swadians, since it's their invading army. We've taken down about half of them. Then again, I'm like level 45 or something, and my army is full of top-rank troops. Good castle to defend, too.

The rest of the Rhodoks ran off like little girls, though. Pissed me off so hard. Now three Rhodok lords are under siege from ONE Swadian - and they're crying like babies.

Psssssssh.

catch it now so you can like it before it went so mainstream

It still depends on the enemies armour, even with archery. If they had good armour they arrows could have just been not penetrating.

Well, I find them. It's happened to save me, too. An arrow will just stop by my side like a good dog. It's annoying. Kind of funny. But when I'm trying to stab people from a distance, it gets on your nerves.

Sorry to bring this thread back from the dead, but I have a king. What are my options? I can't sell him into slavery, and I can't seem to find a way to kill him, but I don't want him going back to his kingdom.

If you own a castle you can put him in a garrison and either keep him there forever (they usually escape after a while however, unless you've upgraded the garrison), or keep him there and wait until someone offers to buy him back. They usually offer a pretty large sum of money, so this is the best way to make money in the game.

Indeed. Speaking of capturing lords, I changed the escape rates of defeated lords to 20%, so 80% of the time, I have the choice to capture them. So I'm playing as the Khergits, have level 270 archery, 11300 arrows (I modded the arrows .. I got like 2-3 kills total with only 30 arrows :/. Lame, but it works). I capture a nordic castle (The khergits aren't at war with them, but I am), and go about training people. I put my 2-3 lords in the garrison. Soon enough, a force of 600 nords come stampeding at me. 8-9 Lords - including the king. I defeat them with my meager 70 horse archers/lancers. I captured everyone of them :D So I had at least half ot the nord army, and went on to take Tihr (which almost everyone knows is extremely hard), 4 castles, and almost took Sargoth before a bug freed everyone of the captured Lords and then took my castle, and destroyed my army D:

I was gonna bump this topic.

Warband is amazing :D I'm nearly at the point now where I can break off from the Nord's and form my own faction, just need to wait till we get at war with somebody first.

I have to say I'm glad I missed out on the original when I first read this thread because Warband is stand alone so I'd have to have bought a similar game twice..

Multiplayer is pretty sweet too, though because most of you arn't near Aussie/NZ I couldn't play you :(

Yeah, it's fairly ddead during the Aussie peaktimes. However, it's fine pretty much all around the rest of the world.

I haven't even tried the new single player. I've been playing multiplayer for two months.

I love being a crossbowman - you get to snipe at distances, giving you some method of firing back at archers and fleeting horsemen, while the sword + shield combo let's you fair well with other infantry. Also fun shooting 2handers in the gut when they think you've swapped to sword/shield.

Ymira and Bunduck were my bros. I had a 180+ army swadian knights, with almost the best gear for all my heroes. Sadly I conquered all of the land for the swadians, so it wasn't very good when I decided to attack them :wall:

Also, although 2 handers are more fun, being able to kill horses and people in 1 hit, when you are strong enough a balanced heavy bastard sword + steel shield + masterwork kerghit bow is a great combo for slaughter.

MMMMEEEEGGGGAAAA BBBBUUUUMMMMPPPP

Anyone here play Warband? So, so, SO much fun. Currently playing as a lord for the Nord's, trying to rebuild my lost army after we fought bravely against a Rhodok army that outnumbered us more than 6 to 1. Unfortunately, they managed to win a Pyrrhic Victory and I have to raise a new army. Unfortunately we're at war with everyone but the all but destroyed Vaegirs (we recently raped the [cabbage] out of them), and I can't recruit the Saranids that made up most of the old army.

Funny thing you bumped this, I had stopped playing but I started again not so long ago. Sadly, my computer can't play Warband, which is weird because it has hardly any graphical updates over vanilla.

I reached the point of the game where you have the best armor and 50 knights, and it got borring winning every time so easily, so I said "[bleep] being a tank", and sold my armored horse, all my heavy armor, bought steppe armor, a champion coursier (fastest horse in the game), a lance, and started wrecking some [cabbage].

So there I am, galloping on my horse at match 7 speed, with my 32p lance with 170 reach, fighting some bandits, dealing 400 damage and killing anything that stands in my way. I start running towards the last one. The air starts burning arround me from the friction caused by the speed of my horse. My lance is ready. The bandit starts riding towards me as well. Just as I'm going to run him through, I accidentally move my mouse a little bit, miss the hit, and my face met a new friend: Mr. Maul.

Yeah, I got 1-hit KO'd by a forest banding.

SUPER MEGA BUMP PART 2

I finally got this game and wow, I am blown away. Loving it so far. Then I remembered this thread, and well, here we are.

Currently playing Warband and thinking of starting new, but I don't know what nation to go as. I'm thinking the Khans since I like archery, but eh. Anyone got experience with those? Tactics, how to take down other cav, etc?

Looking forward to reviving this thread.

The Khanate has light cavalry. All of their units except the level 1 recruits are mounted, and almost all of the units also have bows (the chances of having either a bow or some jarids are random, but it's pretty high even on lancers). Basically, you can crush most infantry based enemies, EXCEPT THE RODHOKS, who will tear your [cabbage] appart, because they are all heavy spearmen. Nords should be easy to fight, as for swadians, vaegirs and sarranids, you have to check how many horsemen and mamlukes/knights they have. Usually, a couple of them shouldn't be hard to kill, but when they have about 20 knights you can expect a lot of losses on your side.

Also, the Khergit and the rodhoks are both the best at taking and defending castles, due to the good/huge ammount of archers.

Myself, I play Khergit mostly because playing against them is a bother. They are the fastest riders, so even if you have a knight battles take long because it's hard to reach them.
