Nadril
I once read somewhere that you could download ROM's and test them for 24 hours. After that you have to delete them or it's illegal. However, that was a while back since I read that so it's propably outdated. It's not true.

Guest
I like using roms on my handheld. My DS have a Supercard DS one. And my PSP haves version 5.00 M33-5 ;) . It's ok, and you can get games free, handy if you like a game, you dont want to buy a game that is not fun for you :? .
BlueLancer
I barely ever play on old consoles any more except for brief nostalgia moments, if I want an old game & it's no longer available (I do have a Wii console but no wireless to hook it up online) or for sale, I'll just get the ROM. Why pretend it's a moral issue or refrain from having fun & recalling memories, if you have no way to pass on the cash to the company anyways? Buy it if you can and it's still available. Get the ROM if it's extremely old, no longer in production, and is unavailable in new condition. There isn't really any other way to get old games (talking 15-20+ years and more), than from friendly people sharing their copies in virtual form to other people. Hawks
Yeah, it's illegal but it's sort of like copying your own music onto your computer/mp3 players; tons of people do it... I will say NES, SNES, and 64 games would be mostly fine for getting ROMs of because it's unlikely you've got the console still and more unlikely you could find the game pak. Although now with Virtual Console, you can buy a huge number of old Nintendo games... So if you have the option, I'd say go with VC, but if it's not/you don't have a Wii, get a ROM. I guess I'm saying justify why you have a particular ROM if you've got one, and don't go about finding as many as you can just for the heck of it. sig by Soa.....tip.it times.....art & mediadeviantart/flickr/last.fm/steam/twitter/tumblr/youtube
Orpheus
I've got a CycloDS Evolution, with MicroSDHC support(hello 8GB of game storage :D) The farthest I'll pirate is PSX games, since I can't find them anywhere, and I'm not paying $100 on eBay to risk getting scratched discs. I also have my desktop emulate a PS2 so I can play my PS2 games on it. I was going to eat hot dogs for dinner tonight. I think I will settle for cereal. OPEN WIDE HERE COMES THE HELICOPTER. TheValeyard
Depends on how recent the game is. Pirating NES games is hurting nobody's business. Technically, if you can buy it on Virtual Console, you're cheating Nintendo out of like $5. :| Will the money grabbing whore that is Nintendo miss 5 bucks? Though the smiley would've implied I wasn't entirely serious. I have a good deal of NES/SNES/N64 ROMs myself, so yeah... But it's not like someone's going to spend $255 for Super Mario Bros., huh? scootlaboot
I'm just gonna bring up Earthbound for the sake of saying that not every game ends up on the virtual console. While at the same time stating that if you can acquire an NES or SNES, go for it. You can probably find one relatively cheap, and not all old game cost an arm and a leg. Especially most mario games. If you choose your beliefs/lifestyle simply based on what your parents want, then you are a weak minded individual and are not even worthy of calling yourself a person. AceBeam
I got me N64 emu and a DS emu. I use the N64 one to play Majora's Mask, cuz I cant get it on eBay cause last time I tried getting it on ebay, the cartridge was gutted and I ended up with a shell of the game :( plus thw game is unobtainable now. The DS emu I use to try a game before I buy it.If it's good, I'll go buy it, if the game is bad, I'll get pissed off and go play Majora's Mask. :D Oh yeah, and I've thought of taking babies and throwing them. das
I have my Gameboy Library and NES/SNES Library on rom format, I don't have the space to hook them up currently. Plus some of my NES games no longer function. And yes, I bought contra off of ebay - then proceeded to download it. I would mention other games, but darkdude said not too so I'm not going too. Where does mugan come into the legal debate? it's what sparked my interested in coding many years ago. stevepole
I used to be really big into SNES roms back in like middle school. I don't think there is anything wrong with the use of roms and emulators, because a lot of the content that you get you can't find anywhere else. I'm sure if there was an easier way to obtain the content through a legal way they would. Its almost like pirating TV shows and movies, you don't do it so much because its free but because its easy to obtain and with services like Hulu creating easy and legal ways to obtain the shows and movies you want to watch people our going to use those options raither then downloading illegally. When it all comes right down to it is accessibility.
Wizz
Hmm I think it's ok. Like me I can finally play the old Fire Emblem game and I could not find it anywhere! I got me N64 emu and a DS emu. I bought like 4 of them and they won't work in my Nintendo Ds Lite, it says no disk is in there. Yes it said R4 and looks like the one in the Picture.... wormy
I am just curious about people's thoughts of Emulators of the NEO-GEO or other arcade cabinet variety because in theory you are 'stealing' about $1000+ USD from the companies for the cab, then another $30-$300 for the game carts
