The Great Ring Of Wealth Experiment(Method updated[Step3&4])

Ok, so this threas died, then came back to life. (Yay?)

I've left my methodology below if anyone is willing to find the amount of recruits needed for this, but currently, I am not going to oversee the challenge.

However:

http://www.rsdrop.com/index.php This site, once its out for a while should provide a good idea of what items and higher percentages are given when the row is used. Maybe edit your first post and include the website.

^^

What he said.

Use it, check it.

Ever wanted to be part of something big?

Ever wanted to crack one of the great mysteries of Runescape?

Ever wanted to contribute to the Runescape Community?

Well then, ask yourself this one "simple" question:

Does the Ring Of Wealth Work? :ohnoes:

For many years, players have debated it's authenticity, some saying its a load of rubbish, and others swearing by it.

My plan is to expose the truth once and for all, putting the fabled object in it's rightful place.

My investigation will be thoroughly scientific :ugeek:

This will make it useful to the everyday player and will also give me a reliable conclusion, to a certain degree of accuracy.

If you would like to know the details of my investigation click below;

[hide=Scientific explanation]Because this will take a large amount of processing, It is nessecary for large groups of people to take part.

This gives me a large salmple to deal with.

It also gives me a wide variety of monesters and drops to deal with.

Lots of people = Large Salmple

Large salmple = Better results[/hide]

[hide=Easy explanation]I have leet haxor skillz[/hide]

Essentially, the more people I have to take part, the better it is.

So, what do you have to do?

It's rather simple really, and it takes minimal effort on your behalf.

Step 1 Get a ring of wealth. OR; don't get a ring of wealth, depending on what you plan to do.

Step 2 Go hunting a monster and keep a tally of your first 100 kills, you can do this on a piece of paper with a pencil, or if your feeling really adventurous, write it in blood.

Step 3 Method:

DO NOT INCLUE ANY DROPS DEEMED TO BE "100% DROPS"

I advise to kill on a lop population world - this allows you to enter your data in between kills, reducing the chance of an error.

Step 4 Fill out this form:

(All monsters to be killed in sets of 100)

Monster Killed:

Ring of wealth used or not:

Then, make a hide tab:

[hide=][/hide]

And record your 100 drops.

Then, please tally those drops up into an ordered system by stating "TOTAL"

eg.

20 Oak planks+blue charm

...

...

...

Total drops: 810 oak planks, 45 blue charms ect......

Step 5

Relax, leave the rest to me.

I highly suggest doing something like Spiritual Mages, as in the God Wars Dungeon, there is a handy kill count to keep track of your kills.

A special note on Aviansies (and other monsters of this manner) - Please kill all of the same level Avianseies while testing, this is annoying as some people may take your spot, but it keeps the investigation fair.

RULES

 You can kill ANY monster you like, just make sure it's 100 of them.

 Don't interrupt your killing streak by killing something else. Eg, Killing a Saradomin Knight whilst killing Saradomin Spiritual mages. (This will also include soloing boss monsters, unless you can stay there for 100 kills)

 Don't fake results

 Don't include team killings

GOOD LUCK!

P.S. If i have missed a trick anywhere, or there is a similar investigation happening, please let me know!

On a side note:

The only official insight into the ring:

[hide=The Official Statement]If thou consider the possessions of an enemy to be like a roulette wheel, then the 'rare' items so coveted by players are located on a second roulette wheel, that will only be spun shouldst thou roll a specific number on the first wheel.

The ring of wealth affects not the number which thou may achieve upon the first wheel, but should thou gain the precise number to allow thee access to the second, the ring will make thy chances of gaining an object on that second roulette wheel all the greater.

My analogy is flawed, for death is not like roulette, but I hope that thou see the truth within this.[/hide]

For good faith:

I'll totally help!

I'll start with Tormented Wraiths, as that's what I'm killing right now and they aren't exactly Runescape's most commonly killed monster. They also don't have any "don't pick up" drops (unless you count the lesser herbs). I'll do 100 with and 100 without.

Right, why have an experiment if there has already been an official statement that it does increase ones chance of getting more expensive items?

Because thats not what the statement says :?:

It basicly states that using the ring of wealth increases the chance of getting a rarer drop, my investigation is to work out by what degree this is.

If you want a simplistic term of the roulette wheel ananolgy;

Imagine every monster has two roulette wheels of all their drops, with the rarer drops being on that second wheel.

Now, when you kill the monster, the first wheel spins, and if your lucky, on that wheel there is a slot to spin the secoond wheel and get a "Rare" drop.

Wearign the ring of wealth increases the chance of getting the chance to spin the second wheel.

-Apparently

EDIT:

Please keep a tally of your drops somewhere else, as it'll make this all very messy.

Even if it's under a hide tab?

Fine, go for it then. But Lablel It!!

And your adding it up / getting a PC for it ::'

This is the third or fourth thread I've seen in my four years of playing, with the exact same concept and plan.

I may be wrong...but...

You said shout "PC" and get the trade value? I'm pretty sure that the trade value changes. I believe you should prefer the items over the trade value.

To be honest I think you need to make more than 100 kills to draw a decent conclusion, it is too small a number to see a significant difference. For example while wearing the RoW you could fairly consistently get items worth say 500gp however when not wearing the RoW by chance you could get one or two drops of an item worth 15k which would mess with the results. Even calculating averages wouldn't show you too much of a difference so you might want to up the number of kills.

Your choice though.

Good luck ::'

Yep, yet every few months after a thread on this has died somebody will make a new one on it.

100 monsters is way too little by the way.

The topic poster has taken a job that takes alot hard work and that many are interested in the results, and you reply by commenting like that?

Behave please.

Old thread don't work... Waste of time it's all random

If it's a waste, don't comment it/read it...i suggest avoiding it.

OT: I will try to help if i can, but i am very excited over the result.

Your system doesn't really make sense. The "total wealth gained" might not be the best way to approach this. Maybe you could look at that data in addition, but I think the best thing to do would be to have an actual tally of drop percentages with the RoW and without the RoW. For example:

Monster A without RoW:

28 herbs

17 mith scimitars

8 fire rune drops

7 rune chains

2 rune scimitars

Monster A with RoW:

19 herbs

12 mith scimitars

11 fire rune drops

9 rune chains

3 rune scims

Get my drift? Then we can make an actual estimate at the percentages and how they change from RoW to no RoW. I also think that 100 monsters sounds like a good enough number to me. The point is to get 100s of submissions each with 100 drops and I think that if we could get a few people working at this, we would start to see a fairly accurate pattern. Plus, 100 monsters is not that many and will encourage average people to actually help gather info. Definitely wait awhile before coming to any conclusions though.

This topic comes up every now and then, and we all dismiss it as something that we will simply never know. But...honestly, this time it doesn't seem like such a bad idea. As long as you are able to keep the thread up to date. ::' ;) I'll probably work on submitting some data soon.
