Well, I had SF v SSBB open for like 25 posts, and requested it be locked - so I came up with this, cause skate gave me the idea

Basically, discussing/arguing/debating which fighting games are better, and why.

Also the depth of a fighting game, aimed at ages, etc etc etc.

I'll start us off by saying SSBB is the best fighting game evar.

I dont need a siggy no moar.

Once you play one fighting game, don't you really play them all? Except for going to 3D, I've never really seen new mechanics in a game that warrants it a 'new game' other then characters or moves.

Well... Def Jam Icon has the idea of the music helping, or hindering you which was a pretty new mechanic, but that was about it.

Depends. I've always liked TF2 compared to other fps's because of it's unique styling and it's much more 'lighthearted' gameplay. No matter how many other fps games I buy, I always come back to TF2 sooner or later. That's just my personal opinion though, any more details and I'd be accused of fanboyism :P

Not really, they vary quite a bit. For example, compare something like Metal Gear to Unreal Tournament. MG focuses a lot more on stealth, completely opposite to the 'run and gun' you get in UT. Sure they're similar in parts, but I wouldn't go as far to say that they're all the same.

There are a ton of differences between fighting games, even just between 2D games.

Man Ray will just not give up though. Anyways my favorite fighting game is either Marvel vs Capcom 2 or Street Fighter IV. It's hard to decide, I haven't played SF4 enough yet really. MvC2 was a [bleep]ing brilliant game though.

However I do dare someone to find people who Take their [cabbage] as seriously as Street Fighter. Top players count the number of frames each attack takes

I like Marvel vs Street Fighter better than MvC. It's just too easy to spam MvC with assists and super moves.

MvC2 is so much better than the first Das, you really do need to get it. I used to have it for the dreamcast until it got stolen. Lucky enough though the DC is easy as hell to pirate games, so I burned a new copy of it. :)

Game has so many characters.

@Fax: I've never played Marvel vs SF. I should check it out.

I'm a Soul Calibur guy. Meh.

It's the only time I've bought a game for two systems on purpose.

I bought it on the gamecube when it came out and eventually picked it up used for the xbox to play as spawn.

Soul Caliber was such a button bashing game  You could win without really putting in any combos except for the A A A A B A (etc).

That's only if you're playing casually, against other button-mashers. (Though that's fun as hell, hitting random buttons ftw) Other than Necrid. He was button-mashing either way.

My friends who don't own the game don't know how to do anything other than button-mash. They get creamed nearly every time.

Though...Raphael had that really cheap move you could do over and over and over...And Lizardman and his nut-kneeing move... #-o

Already told you I'm not arguing this nonsense Ray. You still have no idea what you're talking about.

Here is an example of a combo. (well 6 of them). So, for example, this is what you would do for the first.

Crouch MK, QCF+P, MP+MK (cancel with dash [Forward Forward]) into HP, QCB+HP. Keep in mind this requires crazy fast timing, as for canceling moves into each other requires you to use the next move while the others animation is still continuing.

No need to argue about it.

SF doesnt have technical stuff like super armour frames, invincibility frames, list goes on including stuff i dont know

I dont need a siggy no moar.

Arguing is stupid because you've never played SF4 and I've never played Brawl ray (Although I have played melee a lot and I never saw much in it).

edit: Alright, I decided to look these things you mentioned up.

Super armor frame: Knockback Resistance. Pretty much just means if you do X move you'll have Y amount of knockback resistance.

Invincibility Frame: "are the period of time (measured in frames) during which a character cannot be damaged. Depending on which kind of invincibility the character has, the attack may "hit" or "miss". "

So it's just a move that during a certain part you can't get hit.

Lets look at it. Now, the knockback resist Street Fighter IV doesn't really have because it doesn't have knockbacks. However you can get out of a knockdown quicker with skill (either by using a grab just as you hit the ground or hitting D as you hit the ground).

Invincibility Frame's Street Fighter does have, and a bit more advanced then what it seems like brawl has. Certain moves not only have priority over others (A Shudoken will have higher priority over a lot of moves) and certain moves do grant invincibility. For example, a lot of EX moves will allow you one hit without interrupting the attack. Other moves, such as Akuma's Raging Demon's (Ultra) move will ignore an attack if used at the correct frame while if used too early or late will get interrupted.

Street Fighter IV Also has EX Cancels, Focus Attacks, Super Cancels, Cross Up's, Armor Breaking and Counter Throwing.
