First off, a 32 isn't bad. In fact, it's quite great. Second, doing a bit of research, the University of Illinois at Chicago has a mean freshman ACT of just under 24, meaning that with a 32 you're pretty much guaranteed a spot with your record. I have no idea why you'd be worried. Third, you're taking the ACT a second time. Most people do better the second go around. Don't get too confident however, as that's not always true. I got a 34 my first time and a 32 my second time. Somehow, my science score dropped 6 points, as well as my English going down a couple too. My one point of Math gain wasn't going to save that. My problem was that I was taking my time too much the second go around. I took it easy, and it bit me. Watch yourself, and you can get your score up. Like you really need to though.

EDIT: Taking a second look, you probably meant University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign. Still, you're looking pretty good. The middle 50% of the incoming freshman class had ACTs of 26-31, meaning you're likely in the top 25% of normal admitted students.

Yeah, I meant Urbana-Champaign. 34, that's pretty good. My parents are actually the ones who said I could do better. I'm looking for a good business school (I liked organizing stuff), and I was hoping a high ACT score would boost my lack of extracurricular activities/volunteering (which I know isn't everything). Junior year is a scary year, but I'll do my best.

Thanks for the info. :)

Any college/university worthwhile won't put as much weight on the ACT/SAT scores as you'd think (saying this in general, not to anyone specific).

May the presents of our lord and savior, Santa, be with you this holiday season!

I'm really not looking forward to college and getting a job, etc. It's not that I don't do well in school and won't get into a nice college, it's just that I'm not looking forward to that kind of responsibility. I like going through school calmly and having fun playing video games and the like. I really don't see how I will enjoy college that much. I probably won't have time to 'party' and all that stuff seems to be for people who are willing to do mediocre or worse in college. I'd rather concentrate on my studies here because it's when it really matters and how you will perform in your job.

I'm currently in 10th grade.

I think you'll find it's very easy to just hang around, especially if you live in the dorms. Even full-time as a student, you won't have much more than three or four classes a day. You just have to work a good schedule for studying. I have the gift of soaking up words. If I hear information, I'm usually able to remember it. So long as I don't miss too much in class, I won't have to study a ton. I know it'll be pretty different, though. I'm much more excited about college than I was for high school, though. I've dreaded high school ever since I can remember. And I still do. College sounds like the perfect mix of still being a kid and being an adult, though ... and I'll turn eighteen just in time! :P

EDIT: Whoa, I just did the math, and I'll only be 21 when I graduate. THAT SUCKS. But it's pretty cool, too.

Lenticular_J basically has the right idea here. When you live in dorms going to class is basically only like 5-10min walk away. It's like walking out your front door to class and you learn to manage your time for your lifestyle. Since you mentioned being 21, I turn it at the end of the year! So excited! :D

Dunno what SATS are but In Australia we have Universitys instead of College and our entry terms are based on our UAI out of 99.90% (Since its impossible to get 100%). University Admin Index is our ranking to gain access into a Uni, only prob is you need a certain amount of Courses in High School Yr 11-12 from Catagory A and B. i didnt have enough A's so i didnt get a UAI but I am applying for a special Backtrack throught this year to gain me access into Uni without a UAI so I can apply for a Bach' Art Degree in IT. However I can change my mind about the course for Uni, but i only have 1 year to do so and figure out what im realy after. :|

....Then theres the cost...Im trying to save up and buy myself a new Car (Ford Fiesta XR4) and Im hoping i buy it before end of year so I can pay my fee's the next year. -.-

I'm in my junior year of hs and I just took my (first) ACT a few weeks ago. I got a 32. :( I got my first SAT coming up March 14th and then my second ACT is April 4th. My GPA is 3.8, and I'm on the Cross Country/HS Swim team with about 20 total volunteer hours. What else would I need to add to this if I want to go to some place like the University of Illinois? :? (MOAR CLUBS! MOAR CLUBS!) I'm thinking of volunteering at my local hospital when the sign-ups become available sometime in mid-March.

Thanks, lol.

Either you're fishing for compliments, or you use a different scoring system than here. And since I know the latter not to be true, stop fishing for compliments. You know full well that a 32 composite score is in the 98th percentile.

I've only heard back from one place I applied, a small college in Minnesota called Gustavus Adolphus. I got in there, and they offered me a fair amount of money too. It isn't my first choice though, there are three other schools I have yet to hear back from, and I really don't know where I want to go.

It's interesting how tip.it's reported test scores, just like its reported IQ, is in the 98th percentile of the population. Hmm

If you really want, I can post a pic of my 32 from the ACT website. Not that that helps his case, but it does show that tip.iters at least CAN be smart. I'd post my 34, but that one isn't posted online. I think I took the last test before they started posting online and so only my second score is posted.

Only one rule for College. I insist that you take your shoes off before you pass out. Otherwise, you are fair game.

Only pay for the flights in and out, 300-600e/month for rent, some extra for food and supplies and your set. Why pay too much when you could get the same and even more for less.

He didn't question it, he's just calling him an attention [bleep] for whining about only getting a 32.

Unless you're applying for Ivies, a 32 in your sophomore year will cut it.

We all get that ya''ll are a pack of book smarts. We just want ya'll to stop talking about your only good quality.

If you want to shell out 40-50 grand a year for an undergraduate degree that's not going to be noticeable to a first time employer when compared with experience, GPA, and extracurriculars, then go for it. Even GPA is barely an indicator compared with experience for a first time job. I'd say GPA really only matters for internships. After your first job, your other employers aren't going to even look at where you got your degree from (and I would say that the first time people won't, either). They'll look at how you did on the job you just left, and call that employer. Hell, many people I know (including Darkrick on these boards) have told me how even during first job interviews they don't even ask your GPA. The only time I see it being mentioned is for internships and co-ops.

I'd say it'd only give you an edge if the employer was an alumni.

Damnit. If you're right (which I'm iffy about, no offense), I'm going to be ticked.

Gah, this stuff.

I'm currently a junior in high school, who is also taking college classes, and I don't pay a cent for it either. My ACT score could be better(a 25 :S). The county I go to school in started a program that lets me take college and high school classes at the same time.

I was going to eat hot dogs for dinner tonight. I think I will settle for cereal.

Man, you Americans take this stuff way too seriously.

I don't know what percent of the school my grades fall into... I don't have to worry about SAT's (what are they?)... and if you still have 3 years of highschool to go, you don't need to be looking at the costs already (40k tuition is ridiculous).

Huh. Apparently UH's Journalism program is really sub-par compared to things like Business. I wonder, would it be a good idea to check out UH at first, get all the basic (math, english, science, etc.) stuff down, and then transfer to UT at Austin (which has one of the best journalism programs in the country)?

catch it now so you can like it before it went so mainstream

I have a double whammy of nights out planned for Friday and Saturday this week to mark my last day as a student. I may not survive into professional life but it should be fun.

My degree is in Publishing. As far as career prospects, they aren't too bad - I've got a decent choice as far as specialising in what I'm doing so I've got a bit of leeway. A lot of publishers are looking for graduates right now because they see them as cheap labour but I don't mind that to be honest as I'm only beginning. The credit crunch hasn't effected publishing as badly as other industries because people are staying in so that shouldn't effect me. The worst case scenario is that I need to move or do some unpaid work experience for while to improve my prospects (although I've had some through the course).
