thoughts on Parthenogenesis (yung kidz dun look got sex)

Featured Replies

Parthenogenesis is the Asexual reproduction that may occur in mammals, including humans.

If you want to know more about it just wikipedia it, but I'll cover the main details.

In Humans you most likely need male sperm and a female egg to produce a baby. When Parthenogenesis occurs females, she must carry a rare genetic trait to produce her own baby. Parthenogenesis has been used to create human stem cells and the like.

There was also a rumor that once there was an all female group of amazonian (if that's a word) women that lived by themselves but eventually died out. These women relied on parthenogenesis for life.

Post your opinions.

And also tell me, would you want to be one of the first human cases of parthenogenesis?

So women can survive if I was the last man on Earth, danm. :wall:

Don't you know the first rule of MMO's? Anyone higher level than you has no life, and anyone lower than you is a noob.

People in OT eat glass when they are bored.

My opinion? it's horrible and needs to be stamped out. But really? Opinions on a medical..condition(?) unproven to exist in humans? How can you have an opinion on that?

That said, it would both be pretty cool and suck really bad to have it. If I wanted a baby, I would have gone through the motions to acquire one. Imagine if this was proven, and the woman that had it thought this way and got an abortion

l0l I can imagine somebody getting rid of an unwanted baby that's a scientific miracle :P

Saifzman.png

Oh that would be ridiculous.

This sounds wierd though. Can it actually happen?

catch it now so you can like it before it went so mainstream

wasnt this proposed as how Jesus came about at some point?

on topic, if it is ever proven then thats awesome on the we learned something level, the extremely limited occurence of the gene makes me feel it will never really matter even if it is proven. Only potential would be implanting this in a lot of woman and making amazonia

one question, can the woman have a male child? Im not familiar with the possibility for the y chromosome in this case.

No, that's the only problem with this, the Y-chromosome can only come from a male, no woman can produce their own.

Even if it's a dumb story, telling it changes other people just the slightest little bit, just as living the story changes me. An infinitesimal change. And that infinitesimal change ripples outward-ever smaller but everlasting. I will get forgotten, but the stories will last. And so we all matter-maybe less than a lot, but always more than none.

You mean like in Jurassic Park?

It's pretty stupid for an entire population to rely entirely on a rare genetic trait for survival. It's no wonder they died out.

We can already asexually reproduce now that we know cloning is possible.

I had heard of this once before, and that scientists had theorized that, perhaps, this is what ultimately caused the extinction of the dinosaurs.

It's very interesting, and something that could highly be likely, considering we believe cloning is possible.

it was in some aquarium, full off ONLY female hammerhead sharks, a baby shark was produced, further data was collected and showed that the shark had no father dna, so yes it is a leap from hammerhead to human but it does support the idea

you will learn this in like bio 101 but asexual reproduction is bad because it creates no genetic variability, even animals that do reproduce asexually will most likely have some sort sexual cycle as well. bacteria dont have sexual reproduction because they rely on shear numbers of offspring with slight mutations for their variations

Cloning is possible.

Messed up my own sentence, what I meant to say was that we should have no reason to not consider it highly likely, considering people DO believe cloning is possible.

We have cloned several animals before. Look up Dolly the sheep.

The only people who tell you that you can't do something are those who have already given up on their own dreams so feel the need to discourage yours.

Can this really happen with humans? For some reason, I'm doubting it.

I've only read about it occurring in animals like sharks ( Jesus-shark, Jawsus, ah, so many jokes) and Komodo Dragons.

And in Dragons, its a contingency method of reproduction when there are no males around. And the fatherless birth is guaranteed to yield a male. But these animals use odd chromosomes (like, a Z chromosome where we have X and Y).

If it ever happened to a mammal, I am ignorant of the fact.

And to answer a previous question, since a mother's unused polar bodies (they are results of sex-cell production that are usually useless) suddenly play a part in parthenogenesis, and no Y chromosome is present within, I do not think a male can be borne of a fatherless birth.

But I don't want to go among mad people!

Oh, you can't help that. We're all mad here..."

I don't think anyone is listening to me. This is already possible with cloning.

cloning isn't really quite the same thing, i don't think.
