High ranking players not as "nerdy" as we think?

I agree. My total level is 2100 and I'm the coolest dude I know.

Pwnage  .

I think that as long as you just play for a few years time you don't need to play long time in big streaks, but can spread it over time. That sentence became a little complex, but what I mean is that if you play for like 5 years you don't need to play 5 hours a day to get a high total level and much xp. You can still have a life if you just spread your playing time.

Have you ever heard of school? By the way, to be healthy you need AT least 8 hours of sleep.

That's far too generalized.

Not really, 8 hours is sleep is healthy according to numerous studies. I would find one and post the link, but i can't be bothered.

Yes, 8 hours of sleep is healthy, in general. But you can't generalize that on everyone. There is a lot of individual variation in amount of sleep needed which correlates with individual variation of suprachiasmatic nuclei activity and melatonin production. It has also been proven with the use of so called timeless chambers. There's a genetic component underlying sleep physiology. You could read:

-"The search for circadian clock components in humans: new perspectives for association studies." Braz J Med Biol Res. 2008 Aug;41(8):716-21.

-"Genotype-dependent differences in sleep, vigilance, and response to stimulants." Curr Pharm Des. 2008;14(32):3396-407.

-"New developments in sleep research: molecular genetics, gene expression, and systems neurobiology." J Neurosci. 2008 Nov 12;28(46):11814-8.

I don't know what "studies" you read, but there isn't one that says that 8 hours of sleep is universally good.

The 8 hours rule is for children only.

No rules apply for "adults" or full growns. Although a minimum of 6 hours non-stop sleep daily is recommended

Uhm, that's also just not right.

You didn't even respond to my posts but go on about how stupid i am. The only thing you said that was even slightly related was that "runescape and watching porn would only take x hours a day". I said that because you presume that everything apart from sleeping is free time. Its kind of funny and hyprocritical at the same time that you don't even respond to most of what i said. At least i gave reasons for my argument. Could you please tell me what your remarkable point is? From what i see, your one of those rare breeds of ignorant high levels who think that they are cool and superior to other people because they have more money or better skills or better gear. If i say something im instantly "jealous". Its my choice i want to spend my time. Some people might, but i dont find clicking on trees very fun and prefer to use spare time as a break from work. Please actually respond to my other post and make me "look like a fool".

I never once said you were jealous, or that I was superior. I BEG you to please spare me of your ignorance and just read everything I have written in this topic. I stated that getting 99s was a time-consuming task that we all have the time for. You make your own choices, I'm not arguing that you should be spending your times getting 99s, but that you could be and not be called a nerd for it. You are arguing for nothing right now other than your own pride. I am not one of the rare breeds of high-levels in this game; in fact relative to the length of time I have owned my character, my character is absolute trash.

Remember, your not taking into account time spent getting to levels which get 50k xp an hour, And sure in this case it takes a small amount of time, but in other cases it may take longer. (Eg runecrafting)

I made a specific note to compensate for the time it would take to get to levels that would get you 50k xp/hr. I omitted this purposely because that calculation is too much work I'm not willing to do. To estimate, multiply the time by 1.25. We can assume that a fifth of the time spent training to 99 is spent reaching a level that will make the leveling easier. 1/5 is a generous fraction of time and most likely it does not take that long. Runecrafting xp is faster than slayer xp, which I put at 1.78 hours a day for 99.

Now that I've been bold enough to throw these points out in the open I feel like most of you probably agree with what I have to say but now are taking a whole different stance In other words, many of you may have been offended I came off so brutally, and decided to bring my argument in a million different directions and pick it apart by not-so-cleverly attempting to refute my points with things like "oh, but we have a CHOICE!" As a result my last post on this topic, I promise, will be the following millionth repetition of my argument:

If we assume 'nerdiness' depends only on how much of your social life and education you sacrifice for Runescape:

1) There are more than enough hours in the day to get high levels in Runescape.

2) One can afford to get high levels and enjoy the luxuries of the best social life out there.

3) One can afford to get high levels and enjoy the luxuries of the best educational institutes out there.

4) People waste away constantly in real life and even on Runescape, spending time doing things that are unproductive and pointless. If this time were instead given to do anything, including getting a 99 RS stat, this would come much easier.

5) Most of you have bad grammar and poor attention span. If you want to prove me wrong here, please read every word of every post I have made in this topic thus far. Then read the replies. You will find your point has already been addressed.

To be honest, I don't think it matters. If people want to no-life in their basement and waste their life on runescape, that's purely their choice. How will it benefit by talking about how nerdy other people are? I know I used to play a lot, and now I play very little.

I don't really think any high level players are nerdy, just that they fit into the average runescapers perception of nerdy, which is playing to much.

Basically it, i don't hate them any more than i hate anyone else, i don't think they have any less social lives, etc, but they do, "play to much"

Anyway, if you read the last part of my previous post, i made myself clear. What i really meant was that people who play to much, are more nerdy than the high level players, but i said multiple 99 skills because those 2 things go hand in hand.

Good day.

WOW. I believe you missed out my entire post from before that, which i specifically asked you to actually answer. And once again, the only relevant thing you said was directed to a side comment i made. Actually, calling someone a distracted child because they don't have a skill over 72 seems like you think you're superior to me. And the jealousy comment wasn't directed to you, it was a comment to this actual topic. This time actually reply please. I'll even paste if so you can read it again:

"Distracted child? I'm dont hate people people with 99's but i hate it when people say im jealous or that it proves they are superior. Seriously, i study, get good grades and ect. This is called a game. I'm not going to "work" when i play a game. Call me a loser that doesn't like working. Personally, i find it boring clicking on monsters for... "only 650 hours". Wow, that's nothing indeed. 2 hours a day, which is quite a lot actually excluding weekends will "only" take one year. Oh yeah extremely easy. I can't believe you are trying to make some kind of mathematical formula relating to your spare time to try and prove your not nerdy. And do you think anyone here wants to click on a bone for 1.756236 hours a day every day for a year? I dont find that very easy at all. Its only worse when i realise im not learning anything from it. And also, in your "scientific formula to prove you aren't nerdy" why the heck are you sepeating your "spare time" (which according to you is everything except for sleeping) into playing runescape and watching porn? You sure live a great life. What about school? Friends? Movies? Sports? Other games? Eating? Reading? Homework?"

This time you can give me reasons why im wrong. Hypocrite.

I have 3 99's (well one is 98) and a couple other close ones. I RARELY play. Per month, I probably never reach the 20 hour mark. Most WoW players reach that in 2 days. This game is about patience...but I do know some people that, while having lives, spend TOO much time on rs in proportion to other activities. And for sleep... I'd say if you are over 15 or something like that, sleeping at 12 to 1 is acceptable, providing you wake up at 7:30 to 8 am.

I don't think being "nerdy" is necessarily the issue. There isn't much difference in, say, the guy who spends hours a day playing rs versus the guy who spends hours a day working on his car. Both are hobbies and can take up a lot of free time. Different people play in different ways and just because someone is really good at it doesn't always mean it's because they play 24/7.

The problem begins if people playing rs (or any other game or hobby) do it in unhealthy amounts and it interferes with their responsibilities like school or a job, or if it hurts their relationships with family, friends, etc. Again, that doesn't mean the person is a nerd so much as it indicates they may have some sort of emotional/social/mental problem that is making them want to escape into the game all the time and they can't control it.

i didn't think discussion of runescape "celebrities" was allowed.......

Its allowed in tip.it probably but not in RSOF.

From experience, personal attacks and cutting remarks are in retaliation to personal attacks.

It all starts when one person feels insulted and starts the cycle.

I wasn't referring only too you, everybody who did it included. Anyway, just because someone did something to you doesn't mean you need to do it back. Just report him.

I am Zarfot and am rank 21 overall.

I posted this a while ago somewhere else regarding how long 2376 total could take training very efficiently.

Slayer with stats 1-99 could average about 22k xp/hour = 600 hours total which would max 7 skills.

12M agility is needed because 1M comes from barbarian fishing which is 220 hours at DK. You can fletch adamant bolts while training agility and could get 30M fletching xp from this without losing much agility time at all.

13M mining could be done at 60k xp/hour average = 220 hours.

13M prayer could be done in 40 hours with dragon bones.

13M herblore could be done in 40 hours with brews.

13M magic and smithing could be done in 130 hours superheating gold.

13M crafting could be done in 60 hours with hard leather bodies then green dragonhide bodies.

13M construction could be done in 55 hours with oak doors.

91 Rc could be achieved in 150 hours with ZMI altar, and 99 could be done in 270 hours from then with 27k xp/hour with Graahk.

5M firemaking comes free from woodcutting with an inferno adze, and 8M can be done in about 30 hours with various logs.

13M woodcutting could be done in 200 hours at 65k xp/hour.

13M fishing could be done in 260 hours at 50k xp/hour average.

13M farming could be done in about 40 hours with trees.

2M cooking would come from fishing and 11M could be done in 40 hours with sharks.

13M hunter xp could be done in 130 hours at 100k xp/hour average.

13M thieving could be done in 70 hours blackjacking.

Add 100 hours for quests and other things and you have 2655 hours. Graahk runecrafting would supply most of the cash for the expensive methods, the rest would be obtained via merchanting with almost no time loss which is quite easy currently.

I think it's pretty clear that maxing is possible in well under 3000 hours which could be done in under 2.8 hours a day for 3 years.

Personally it took me over 3 years to max. Granted, I got 30m xp in runecrafting and also 99 slayer twice (since summoning came out after I got 99 slayer), and also RS evolves and faster/better methods are released/discovered, so I'm not claiming that I averaged 2.8 hours a day, but this shows that people with maxed stats do not necessarily play as much as many people believe.

Personally I am in school, in sports, play a musical instrument, and also work 6-10 hours a week. That keeps me very busy, more busy than most people tbh. However I chose to spend most of my free time on RS and that is my own choice. Playing RS for me does NOT affect what really matters- school, work, and sports- as those always get first priority. The reason I decided to try to quit was that I wanted to do other things with my free time besides just playing one game. However I just started playing another game so that is why I decided to go back to RS. Again, this is my FREE TIME and it is a person's own choice what they want to do with their free time. In my opinion people who do things like go do drugs or go to drinking parties during their free time are the ones who really should be picked on. RS is just a game and if someone wants to play it that's their choice.

By the way I sleep about 8 hours a night and have never stayed up all night to play RS and very rarely play past midnight.

I think what the majority of the "nerd" idea boils down to is jealousy. Because people want to BE that high ranked and they're not, they insult the person whom they idolise.

Failing that it is pure idiocy.

I know several High ranked players (no, im not going to name and shame) And i wouldn't consider any of them nerdy, maybe a little geeky, but never nerdy.

But the sterotype that all High ranked players play for 24 hours a day, live in their mothers basesments and are in excess of 40 years old is entirely wrong. The majority of them are just normal people who like me and most other 'Scapers play in their free time.

Normal people who either use their time well, or have just been playing a LOT longer than you.

Dude, no.

Don't you know the first rule of MMO's? Anyone higher level than you has no life, and anyone lower than you is a noob.
