While I don't support gay marriage, I really don't know why this wasn't legal in the first place.

Congratulations, Iowa. Now don't fail us in 2010 or 2012 with a ballot initiative that will define marriage as between a man and a woman only.

I'm surprised that this is happening in the US, but maybe Iowa is one of the more open states (i have no idea)?

 

Same thing happend in Sweden, you can get married by the state as gays but not in a chruch.

 

I can't say i agree with this. While i respect and have no general problem with gays, i do think that marriage should be between a man and a woman.

It's what i think. I'm not christian or anything, but it's just my viewpoint that marriage should be between a man and a woman, and nothing else.

Denying these marriages is just minority discrimination. The sexuality of the couple should make should make no difference whatsoever, love is love. But I'm biased.

I'm in VT. It's still not passed, there is still the chance that the veto will succeed, and not enough legislatures will switch.. It's pretty heated. Almost everyone in the state got an automated call telling them to call their legislator and have them join with the governor against gay marriage, sponsored by some right wing company. It actually had the reverse effect, and more people called telling their person to support the marriage bill than too oppose it.

Laws about gay marriage have remained the same for over a century and a half. Now we should change them? Have homosexuals given the government any reason at all to do so? Their only argument is that they wish to engage in a loving, caring relationship.

 

That's perfectly fine, but the catalyst there is the word "relationship." Homosexuals couples do not benefit the society around them, and often alienate those near them in the workplace or even around the neighbourhood.

 

Having homosexual parents is also not good for children.

 

As we all know, a mother and father in a stable marriage do a much better job of serving the interests of a child for several reasons.

 

The first is that heterosexuality is the natural thing. Children can't look at a heterosexual couple and say "That's just weird." The same does not apply to a gay couple. For the kid who's adopted and goes to school with other children like any other young boy or girl, imagine what it's like to constantly have people running around you singing "[bleep]" or making fun of your parents?

Anyways, I don't get why people actually care. It's just a wedding ring. Many marriages these days aren't even religious ceremonies. If the church refuses but they can still just go to the courthouse or something, why should anybody care? I just don't get it.

1: The homesexual parents are worse has NEVER been actually proved, and has actually been proved false.

 

2: Heterosexuality is obviously not the natural thing, only the more common thing. Is having blonde hair not natural? It's less common than having brown hair so it most be unnatural.

And yea, what does it really matter if gays get married. It's not like it's affecting you much. How many of you live here in Iowa and are affected by it? If two people of the same sex want to get married, congrats to them! They found someone they love! "Oh no two people of the same sex love each other and are getting married :ohnoes: What will we do!!!! The world is going to asplode!@!@!@"

I'm sure that more heterosexual couples have gotten divorces than homosexual couples.
