FirenLazah
Title. I know a small handful of people who skill by collecting their own material. Mining own ore to smith, cutting own logs for fletch. I my self am trying this, im cutting my own maple logs for 99 fm. And I gatta say its a lot harder then just buying it trust me. (Putting up with the "why are u cutting maples when ur 99 wcing?????" is bad enough) So have you ever gathered your own materials to skill like wayyy back in Rsc? Dayking321
Depends on the skill: [*:3vp1olsv]For smithing, yeah. I can't really afford buying all my ores and I would rather good mining + smithing (as I can mine my ores for when I need them, and I'm not at the mercy of merchants.) I haven't trained ether in a while, however. [*:3vp1olsv]I fish my lobsters then cook them for the fishing XP. It's how I make money (so I guess that counts?) Other then that, I'll usually buy things like runes for powerlevelling magic, but I do most of my resource collecting myself. Currently going for 76 fishing
Racheya
I usually: Cut the logs for firemaking/fletching Fish for cooking And I normally mine my own ores but I just bought 2k iron bars to get to 60 smithing (I can make more stuff in sc now ^_^). I normally get ess for RC from GoP I edit for the [Tip.It Times]. I rarely write in [My Blog]. I am an [Ex-Moderator].

WaterDrips
I Never gather anything unless it comes to runecrafting then i do.
cookie1762
Usually the only thing that I gather myself are fish for cooking and eating. I used to gather so much more, but the higher leveled you get, the quicker you want something to get it done. So for most other things except for fishing, I buy it. Also, I buy pure essence, but I make my own natures and laws. : http://sign.tip.it/1/6/24/304/lady_scm.png Drops/Clue Finds:Shield left half: 1,Dragon plateskirt: 1, Warrior's Helm: 1, Obsidian Cape: 1, Robin Hood Hat: 1, Dragon Platelegs: 1, Dragon Boots: 4, Amulet of Ranging:

D Jay99
Nah, boring. I usually have the money from herbs and stuff build up then spend it on skills.
llamster
why are u cutting maples when ur 99 wcing????? 'Nuff said. Ah, this reminds me about the noob on the Runescape forums who was upset with the quest "Cold War" because apparently his grandparents died in the war. :wall:
Neltak
It really depends on my mood when I'm skilling. When I first started out (as f2p) I got to 77 mining and 73 smithing by mining all the ores I would use for smithing (with the exception of selling ores once in a while). Now I usually buy my resources unless I get in a "no spending" mood. When those moods hit I do the most foolish things (ie. play Fists of Guthix for the herblore gloves then kill chaos druids for an hour or two to use the charges). These moods I suppose are a way of validating my accomplishments of increasing self-sufficiency and not having to rely on other players to further myself in the game. Forerunner
Back when I was a lower level I was pretty self-sufficient, but now I just rely on the Grand Exchange to do my dirty work for me. But then again, most of the skills I train now are the gathering or un-buyable skills, so I don't spend a lot on resources. Only fear God,Know the weapons of the weak,The weakness of the hard. fergo1234567
I don't really collect that much for my self, except for ess for rc, and yesterday I bought 750 harpoons from a shop (don't know if that counts) so if I had to go back before ge, I would be stuffed for quite a while, before getting used to standing in varrock bank yelling "BUYING LOBBIES 300 GP"
Paul00
I try to collect everything myself for my skills, at the moment I'm actually: Training Hunter for cash to buy Guthans to train slayer to train on dusties to get charms. It's pretty nice, most of my skills are self-sustained. 645th to 99 Agility. I'm always up for a good chat, feel free to pm.
zwyrm
Most of the time, yes. But sometimes when i'm close to getting a level (about 3 or 5k away) and have run out of materials i buy them :)
Seraphyna
I do for the most part. The exception was cooking which I got to trim my def cape long ago. I plan to get my own ores for smith, d hides for craft and d bones for pray, etc. It's a lot easier to do when you have a pack yak.
Abc1230
I buy herb seeds and gather secondary ingredients for herblore. It saves A LOT of money and I get farming exp =P YouTube
kamykazee
I havent really dont that alot.Even when i went from 67 to 85 mining i chose power mining over depositing :D But,as i've heard from several friends,it's very rewarding.I'm sure it would be very satisfying to get your own ores, logs, essence, etc, only problem being that the vast majority don't,and you will feel excluded. But otherwise,i think i would chose gathering my own raw materials

Ax600
why not, you only level up 2 or more skills at the same time Ex. fletching: woodcut for the log, which you fletch into an unfinished bow, then you go pick flax to craft into a bowstring to put on the unfinished bow, then you cut hundreds of regular trees to get arrow shafts, then you go and mine whatever kind of arrow youre going to make, smelt it then smith it, then you, go kill hundreds of chickens for feathers for the shaft, then you use the arrowheads on the headless shafts to finally make the arrows in all 6 skills leveled up all trying to get supplies for ranging. its smart to, unless you simply cannot make the item you're trying to get Excuses are tools of incompetence that builds monuments of nothingness. Those who specialize in excuses never accomplish anything. If the world does end on December 21, 2012, I want to be doing hot stuff with Megan Fox and/or playing Runescape :D

Youmu
It really depends on the skill. -For woodcutting, I just woodcut willows at Draynor and firemake near the area. (WC + FM xp) -For fishing, I fish my fish, then cook them. (Fish + Cook xp) -For mining, I just dropmine iron ore. The only time I use Mining to train Smithing is when I mine coal and superheat. -For runecraft, I buy my talismans and tiaras. It's just a pain in the neck to play so much GOP for so much body talismans. -For crafting, I buy my hardleather bodies. They're not really expensive, and gathering cowhide is boring. -For prayer, I pick up whatever bone I find and bury. I'm too lazy to buy bones.
