Third college semester (second year), done english 1-2, gov 1-2, history 1-2, calculus 1-3, physics 1-2 by now.

Differential Equations - Probably my toughest class yet.

Chemistry 1 + Lab - Physics done, time for this.

Psychology - Core class required, sounds interesting.

Computer Essentials - Core class required, shouldn't be too bad.

I have no idea how much timetaking diff eq and chem will be, so I'm only taking four classes this semester to keep more focused. Better have all A's then have more classes with a few B's.

Ah god, Zora Neale Hurston's "work", I almost shot my foot off to get rid of the pain of that book. I do pity you.

I wish my school had AP Chemistry made available. I'll try to take the AP Calculus [bC] exam but I'll have to study on my own since the current class only covers AB items  Physics seems to be my most challenging course this year, just because the teacher is insane. I doin't usually blame things on the teachers, but her grading is really offbeat. Tests/quizzes are 80% of the grade, homework 10% and labs are 10%. So, if you mess up even a bit on a test/quiz, you're pretty much done for.

Just make sure what you're getting yourself into  Studying for Physics is taking up a lot of my time which I planned to use for scholarship stuff, applications, etc. so be sure you're not overwhelmed :)

A lot of colleges give the same placement whether you take the AB or the BC calc exam.

AP classes are fun and so worth it :D I never took (AP) chem though, so I have to take intro chem in college.

Everybody hug and spread the love :D

i really should start studying...

i have very good memory if things are taught to me...so if im taught sumthing i will normally remember it for the test

but if i actually studied these 11 years of my life...rather than being 4.0 without caring..i could have been 4.0 and beyond and have much more knowledge...i can't remember a time ive studied...which is why I did so poorly on the SAT

now i feel like a moron in SAT prep outside of school bc i never studied

suppose thatll have to change in college since ill have to study

That is a hard grading scale Punk...i had the same one in German II...no labs...so 100% tests and quizes...homework didn't count

pulled off a 92 for the year..but it was only German II...it was my first 2nd language though

off topic a bit lol sorry

You would've hated by high school.

Almost EVERY subject was 80-100% graded through EXAMS ONLY.

Assignments were never really heavy on your grades unless it was a more pratical subject. But even then it was still 50%+ from exams :P

And I still don't get the American education system, is college and university the same thing :-? From what I can gather they do they same thing. It's just in college you can't get a masters or doctoral degree? that's the impression I get anyways.

But in Australia you go to Uni, get a degree then if you have the grades you can persue a masters / phd / whatever. And then there is TAFE which you can attend if your OP / Rank wasn't good enough to get into a uni or whatever. And from that you'll get one of the following:

Certificate I

Certificate II

Certificate III

Certificate IV (these are usually reserved for 6month or less courses)

Diploma (this is what you usually do)

Advanced Diploma (then can do this)

in whatever field you happen to be studying. And you can then use that to accelerate your placement in a degree, by applying for recognition of prior learning (usually 4 semesters for diploma and 2 for certs), if you wish.

I'm not the foremost expert on degrees and such, especially for university the level, so I'll pass on what I think is correct

Here in the United States the grades in high school can be weighed by whatever the teacher feels fit. For example, last year tests/quizzes were 50% of my grade in English, but the final exam accounted for 25% of my grade as well (I won't bother mentioning other percentages). So, overall, there was a large chunk of my grade in the final exam, and the tests/quizzes throughout the year were also important.

I'm not quite sure how it is based on the uni level, but I can assume it's the same or quite similar. It just depends on the teacher I guess :-\ But what I also wanted to add was that (at least for getting a Doctorate) you can to aquire a certain amount of 'extracurricular' hours in order to pursue that degree (at least it's like that from the stories my AP US History teacher told me). He has a Masters in Education and has enough hours equivalent to a Doctorate, but he just doesn't want to go for it since it gives him no advantages in pay or anything :P

I'm just saying that the class itself is difficult to comprehend. I don't know if it's me or if it's the way she teaches. :-\ I spend a good two hours or so EXTRA to just study for physics. I dunno, I hope it gets better

Wow, really? Exams worth so much? At my school, in almost every single subject, term work is worth about 70%, and 30% goes towards the exam and culminating activity (final course assignment), 30% split however, usually something like 20% exam and 10% activity.
