glasscube
OT: really, why wouldnt they get banned? Jagex finds em, they usually dont last more then a week Actually, they usually do last more then a week. It all depends on what program they use and how many precautions they take. They could have the bot take scheduled breaks, use only the best scripts and have the program do stuff to make it look like a human is playing (randomly examining stuff, etc etc). People have accounts with 99 fletching, woodcutting and fishing. Yes, Jagex catches some. No, they do not catch them all. Does reporting help? Yes. Can you easily differentiate the bots from real players now? Not always. Help drive change Canada
Jenove
I'm surprised people still bot considering all the RWT fuss. And those who do it for the levels are jsut stupid, because it will just eventually cause JaGex to do another RWT stopping kind of thing. If all of you guys only knew... you have no idea what is going on behind your backs... how much longer will you stay blind and ignorant of this.. Alex_Ewan_1
They will get banned especially if reported multiple times. Just be patient. Goals achieved: lvl 99 Cooking, Fishing and Fletching.Surrey CC and Liverpool FC fan for life!

If all of you guys only knew... you have no idea what is going on behind your backs... how much longer will you stay blind and ignorant of this.. So, now that you have our attention, fill us in! more people bot than you would think. The scripts are fairly complex and easy to get a hold of. As long as the botter takes certain precautions it is highly unlikely jagex's system will detect them botting. Even if they are detected as long as it is their first offence jagex usually only temp bans them for a week or so. I forgot the forumula but its something like you can get caught twice and not be perm banned. If you are caught for autoing once then jagex flags your account and they take a closer look at what you do.
Gudi
People like to think they do, but the majority of sane botters that don't 24/7 it will hardly ever get banned. EDIT: I have several accounts that i bot on and i am yet to be banned on.

Its unfair. He's just saying that some people don't bot for real life money but just because they don't want to grind to a specific goal. Whether or not it was fair was not mentioned. Opieous
If you report them a few times, they will get banned. I found some dude botting 99 defence, and I reported him about once a day for about a week. About a month or so later, perm banned. Points at siggy: Even u have 99 Def  OT: Yeah, in due course they do get banned. Botters generally get bored and quit probably... not many around after the RWT updates... 99 Woodcutting | 99 Constitution | 99 PrayerScapin since July 05'
FooK-A-Ji
Many people stop botting after being discovered and their account frozen for a few days, and that is smart for business. But this also results in some of the dimwits thinking that Jagex are dumb, or that they are smarter than Jagex, so some continue to break rules. Funny thing is it used to be so obvious when some kid posted he got hacked, that it was because of some program he downloaded which ended up screwing him over. That is another reason why you don't get an automatic permanent ban first time usually. Because yes, there are idiots such as portrayed above. pulli23
You should remember some people use bots because they are lazy, it's not always about the money And how does that make a difference? Its unfair. talking about fairness is really a stupid thing: it completely depends on the person, contex and the location you speak about it.. If I would ask my friends -most of them being computer science/electronic engineering graduates at university- they would say: "it's unfair that you can't use your mind to solve a task: actually programming a bot should, instead of being bannable, be encouraged!" - And if you think about it: they are right, EVERYBODY could learn a programming language and write a sufficient bot for a limited system like runescape. (It's a finite state system so it's always possible to let bots behave exactly the same as humans would - And this also makes it by definition impossible to have a 100% proof somebody is using a bot, unless he actually admits it!).. The real reason Jagex doesn't want them is because they could destroy a "community" feeling, bots don't talk, they don't engage in inefficient "social relationship". - But an Multiplayer game is all about that! THAT is the main reason people dislike bots in such games.. Fairness isn't really a reason: I could say it's unfair that some people have a stronger arms than me (I can't use a mouse longer than 2 hours a day or I get slight RSI problems). Does that ACTUALLY make it a valid reason? NO.. So does the reason of being "unfair advantage" against bots (= using mind power to solve tedious tasks) First they came to fishingand I didn't speak out because I wasn't fishing Then they came to the yewsand I didn't speak out because I didn't cut yews Then they came for the oresand I didn't speak out because I didn't collect ores Then they came for meand there was no one left to speak out for me. JustAGamer
We're still a long way to Skynet takeover methinks. Besides, while some complex bot scripts are easy to get a hold of, the best ones won't be. If you wrote an amazing script, would you just happily give it to anyone who asked? Odds are you'd be A) trying to sell it, or B) be keeping it for yourself so Jagex can't get a hold of it and see how it works. this link kills spam

Rollyboy
Reminds me of a t-shirt I saw, the writing on it read; "It is only illegal if you get caught" But what I dislike about this bot hunting craze is the accusations you receive if you do not respond. e.g "wc lvl?" "wc lvl?" "wc lvl???" "haha you a bot" "hey are you a bot?" "Bot!!" and it just goes on... I have seen this a million times. In my opinion since the level 3 default looking bots have left, the suspicion that normal characters are macroing has risen. lagatag
They'll get banned. Jagex just takes their time because noobs report just about anyone for botting. Most common its a noob just happen to notice them and say hi then they don't respond because they don't care to talk, chat off, looking at a forum or other site, etc. People have accused me of autoing before as I click to cut a tree or fish or whatever, switch tabs to check forums, come back, and some noob is like "z0mg dat guy is bot, he are don't respond to meh"

The Dark Lord
There isn't the same amount of bots as there used to be, so be careful if you wanna report someone. A lot of innocent skillers get caught up in the mix and they get banned. The only bots I would report would be autotypers. Those are more obvious. And yes, bots get banned, along with hundreds of innocent players. SWAG Mayn U wanna be like me but U can't be me cuz U ain't got ma swagga on.
