nerdboyxxx
Hehe, I don't do Boy Scouts but I did Cadets. Was pretty fun, we did the Bivouac, hiking, got to see some firearms and military vehicles, and spent about a month in the middle of the Bush with your little set-up toilets and basic (and I mean REALLY basic) 3-course meal. The blisters used to kill when we went on the hikes :ohnoes: I cn kind of relate to you. If I wanted to advance in rank, I'd have to know people high up. Usually the Staff Sergeant of our Platoon would put us up for promotion then we'd get accepted/rejected. Of course, if the guy doesn't know you or like you there's no way you're going to get rank. So, eh, you kinda live with it. I didn't quit because I thought it was stupid, I play Cricket and our Cadet gatherings conflicted with my training :? time sucks. Chained_life
Lol boy scouts. I think I was actually in it for a little bit (parents made me) but stopped before I was... like, what, 11 or 12? Yeah, it's much cooler to sit around at the mall smoking pot while talking about how the world sucks with your lazy friends. I wish I could've joined the boy scouts, would have done some constructive with my teenage years. How anyone on a runescape fan forum can badmouth a boy scout is beyond me; and no, I don't have any family or anyone I know in the boy scouts. I assume I'm not really interested in a group of old guys forcing their views both political/religious/and social onto me, and being pushed aside because my dad doesn't work with the troop. Poor you, I deal with crap like that every day at school, live it, you'll deal with it a lot when you get older, I get the MMGW garbage shoved down my throw daily. Lenticular_J
My good knife snapped in half a while back. If it snapped...How good was it really? You can't cheap out on the esssentials. Treat yourself to somethin' nice. One that won't break on ya. :P Well, it ended up under the tire of a half-ton pickup. Need to not cheap out on pants, and get some with pockets that don't suck. catch it now so you can like it before it went so mainstream
das
I probably have more knives than EMR. i have a plethora of utility ones scattered about. Some of better quality than others I have 2 of these, it's a decent knife I still carry around for daily use (I also pmed that one guy my msn) http://www.scoutstuff.org/BSASupply/Ite ... odid=24084^8^01RTL& I use Gerber knives for camping and heavy duty stuff , I love them and highly recommend them. I believe they run around 25-60 depending on the blade size. I also got a commemorative eagle scout knife somewhere - it's one that's a collectors knife though, and I honestly got no clue where it's at "Any people anywhere, being inclined and having the power, have the right to rise up, and shake off the existing government, and form a new one that suits them better. Sam
I did go to Cubs (might be different in America, one before the actual scouts), and we had a really good leader, but then they left, and the next one was just really boring, so I quit. 2257AD.TUMBLR.COM
Phil
I was in the beavers, cubs and scouts because my parents made me, but quit when I was like 13/14. I never really enjoyed it. I don't think we ever did trekking/hillwalking which I would have enjoyed more. But I managed to do that through the DofE award.
Powman3
I ended my scout career as a Tenderfoot. I quit because my troop was closing down and I didn't want my step dad to drive 15 miles to go to meetings and stuff, plus I had football so I couldn't do anything. I don't think I'd ever rejoin either, mainly because I'm not a big believer in religion. But I had a hell of a lot of fun camping. Made good friends also. And for all the haters, being an Eagle Scout is amazing on a resume if you join the military or any other decent job. I recommend you just switch troops. Knotch_Blade
I'm not interested in the military, like I said, I'm really smart; don't really plan on risking it all tbh... How anyone on a runescape fan forum can badmouth a boy scout is beyond me; and no, I don't have any family or anyone I know in the boy scouts. Yikes. It's a good thing none of that applies to me I guess. I didn't enjoy the scouts when I was in it, and especially now as I'm older I'm not going to join them if I disagree with their views. Sure it is always nice to have something else on your resume, but I'd rather my portfolio do the talking ;p. (I don't play runescape anyways, although I did 7 years ago for a bit. I just stick around here)

A friend of mine (who is an Eagle Scout) went to our High School's (which I just graduated from) football game one week, after working on his Eagle Project, and forgot to leave his knife before he got there. He was arrested, and was suspended for 10 days but he brought it down to 5 because he had a perfect record and was a good student. das
Lol, I'm graduated out of highschool long ago, The blade fits in the palm of my hand though - which was our highschools rule - went to redneck high 101 - I'd guess half of the campus carried knives. My uni campus has no rule on knives. But thanks for the warning :P "Any people anywhere, being inclined and having the power, have the right to rise up, and shake off the existing government, and form a new one that suits them better. Saru Inc
The troop I was in earlier in my life, was the biggest group of pretentious, elitist, atheist in Christian clothing I've ever seen. All they did was [bleep] around, and make fun of fat people. No one would help me get my ranks up, all the adults were too busy. So I dropped out ,and life has been great since :D And Barihawk, Eagle Scout is great on a Resumé, but so is community service hours by themselves. I have around 300 community service hours, and I was a tenderfoot for like 4 years. :D I have all the 99s, and have been playing since 2001. 88_click
My friend is an eagle scout. But it just seems like a waste of time to me. It may seem like a waste of time to you , but it was one of the hardest things i have ever done. I am currently almost 17, and i just received my eagle scout. MY mom told me when i was 16 that i would not want to continue with the scouting program, because of friends, girls etc...and damn she was right. Now that i finally got it though, it is like a weight has been lifted off my shoulders. The thing people don't understand is that Scouts teaches you responsibility, and how to hold yourself not only as a man, but as a respectable human being. IT teaches you how to stick with something, because it will take you a good 5 years of hard-work to do. Scouts mainly come off as nerdy people who need something to do socially, but that is not it at all, you do crazy [cabbage] as scouts....rock climbing, white water rafting, kayaking, but then you also have to do knowledgeable stuff, which takes time and hard-work to complete. As i have found out having the rank of eagle scout gets you jobs, into college, and many other things. Thats what i got to say. [/bads]

warren211
The boy scouts aren't that big where I live. We have no advertisements, no roaming recruiters, and nobody I know in my town is one or knows one. If I were a kid again I think I'd want to try the boy scouts just because it sounds like a fun place. But I think it's a bit late for me, even though I'm still a teen I already have my days set with school and extracurricular things. [hide=]tip it would pay me $500.00 to keep my clothes ON :( :lol:But then again, you fail to realize that 101% of the people in this universe hate you. Yes, humankind's hatred against you goes beyond mathematical possibilities. That tears it. I'm starting an animal rebellion using my mind powers. Those PETA bastards will never see it coming until the porcupines are half way up their asses.[/hide]Apparently a lot of people say it. Lordjake
I received my Eagle Scout award 6-7 years ago and I don't regret going through it at all. If you're having some issues with the bureaucratic stuff going on, use it to your advantage and try to get voted up into the ranks of your troop and change what's going on. I was lucky enough to have a really cool group of friends that I started Scouts with who kept at it as long as I did - I think 5 of us got Eagle all within a year of each other. My roommate freshman year of college was also an eagle scout so immediately we had a lot to talk about, and we ended up rooming together all 4 years. It also helped (I like to think, anyway) me get a job during this crummy economy. One of the people interviewing me was an Eagle Scout and in the Order of the Arrow (which I also recommend you try to get into), so we started off friendly and eventually I got the job. So yeah stick with it - you seem to enjoy 95% of Boy Scouts; don't let the 5% get you down.

That's exactly what happening to me right now. We have five or six people all lined up to get Eagle. It's a bit of a pain because everyone's stepping on each others' toes trying to get things done
