Maze
I use Firefox and Safari, but I never got why everyone thinks IE sucks and Firefox rules. My brother is an IE fan, but everyone on TIF seems to like Firefox. What advantages does FF have over IE?
Sbrideau
Actually, anything is better than IE. Firefox is not the best one either, I find it's Opera that's the best one. IE is very slow and full of security flaws that take time before they get fixed by Microsoft, while for firefox they make a fix in quite a short time. ElkNight
IE tends to have more security flaws, slower, and less compatibility. Gandorf61
Well besides being faster, more secure, and able to handle any web page better than IE, it also has thousands of ad-ons and themes to use that allow you to customize your browser to fit your needs. Even if a webpage is designed for IE, Firefox has ad-ons to view them perfectly. I also find that Firefox uses less memory, crashes less, and is compatible with basically everything. Throw in private browsing, session restoration, and the awesome bar, and you have a browser that is superior to IE in every way. Check out this page for everything that makes Firefox better. Hawks
Because IE is not up to web compliant standards. I use FF3.5 because I finally drilled it though my dad's thick skull that there are huge security holes in IE6 that were NEVER fixed by Microsoft because the comp it was on is still running Win2000. The XP still has IE7 on it, it's okay I guess, but there are a ton of features in FF that I miss in IE. FF comes with a spell checker and a ton of sweet add ons and skins. It's way better at displaying web pages and is MUCH faster. The way it downloads files is much more secure and can be changed with addons to make downloads go even faster. There are also a bunch of addons that help web developers. Plus I like free stuff and anything to hate on Microsoft. (only reason I keep it is because Office is better than OpenOffice.) sig by Soa.....tip.it times.....art & mediadeviantart/flickr/last.fm/steam/twitter/tumblr/youtube

aspokaspofkjsopfkapo
Plus I like free stuff and anything to hate on Microsoft. (only reason I keep it is because Office is better than OpenOffice.) Why is microsoft office better than oo? And that aside, i'm sure you could get microsoft office to run on wine. IE8 really isn't that bad, i'd definitely use it over firefox with no addons....opera still owns them both.
Hawks
I was raised on MSOffice so I'm used to it. Plus my school switched from MSOffice to OpenOffice and installed a VERY limited edition of it (can't use any templates) and made us do PowerPoints in Impress or whatever. Was super dumb when they had money that needed to be spent in the Tech department and decided to buy netbooks for the jr. high kids and downsize labs in the hs when my class will still be in the hs while they're doing that and we aren't getting netbooks. Plus they have a freaking site license for PS but apparently can't afford one for Office which is the program that the students need more than PS. GIMP is free and practically identical to PS. There's almost no learning curve in switching (other than the additional features PS has in its color choices and brush options which aren't required to use). Open Office is completely different from MSOffice, the menu choices are in extremely strange places. Only useful thing is that oo can save straight to pdfs. Mostly just I hate OO more than MSOffice. And I feel that while it's very possible to create open-source programs as good as or better than their for-profit counterparts (GIMP [PS], Firefox [iE], Blender [3dsMax]), OpenOffice is not up to par yet and I don't think it will be soon. sig by Soa.....tip.it times.....art & mediadeviantart/flickr/last.fm/steam/twitter/tumblr/youtube

aspokaspofkjsopfkapo
I imagine most people favor FireFox for it's customization features. I download all kinds of web browsers just to try something different from time to time. Heck, on my desktop now I have Internet Explorer 8, Mozilla Firefox, Google Chrome, Opera, and Safari. Out of all of them, I have to say Opera is by far my favorite. It seems to load things slightly faster for me, and I love the speed dial feature. The speed and speed dial are nice, but the reason I use opera is the little things. *Mouse gestures *The download manager and bookmark manager are tabs instead of a windows. *It has a funtional, easy to access sidebar. *It can report itself as firefox or internet explorer. *The "prefrences" window is much more detailed and has more options. *Opera:config is easier to use. *Toolbars are easier to mantain and there are more of them. *The password manager is more intuitive and easier to use. *Cookies are easier to manage(I could go into the cookies section and delete the cookies from Hulu, tip.it and google for example). *There are a ton more buttons to choose from. *There's an option to turn on a progress bar which details:download speed of a page, how much has been downloaded, elements loaded, time spent loading. *Right clicking on a link gives you more options(open in new window, open in backround tab(open new tab but don't switch to it), open in forward tab(open in new tab but switch to it), etc. *You can lock, duplicate tabs and create follower tabs. *You can make a page fit, horizontally, into the window. *You can make a new search by simply right clicking on it. Most of these features(although not all) can be replicated through firefox addons, but every addon you use increases load time and resources used and decreases stability. Wait till they bring multiprocess to firefox. Will take about a year or so but they're bringing it out. I know other browsers have it, but this will greatly improve stability. What are mouse gestures? Using the mouse to do things like go back/forward, page up/down, open a link in a new window or a new tab, close tab, refresh and other things. aspokaspofkjsopfkapo
What are mouse gestures? You hold the right mouse button and drag left to go back, hold the rmb and scroll to switch tabs, hold rmb and move the mouse up then down to refresh the page, etc. They're incredible and they make browsing extremely fast, there are mouse gesture addons for firefox but they aren't as good as opera's. Dracion1
I've always liked Firefox because it's faster than IE, has all the addons and is the most secure browser available when you use it with the NoScript addon. I don't really notice much of a speed difference between Opera and Firefox on my system anyway. "In the beginning, the universe was created. Guest
Fast (i feel the same speed as Chrome), Addons and safer. Maybe you disagree with the speed, but i use Mozilla Minefield, one of the fastest browser of the internet.

InkofDeath
IE8 isn't too bad to be honest. If you want to use IE then just get the latest version of it. Uh, actually no. All versions of Internet Explorer fail completely and do not get to be counted as good, neutral or anything positive. http://www.evotech.net/blog/2009/02/css ... r-support/ http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Comparison ... r_features *This one starts at Browser Features, and then goes all down hill for IE from there. Then this: http://www.electronista.com/reviews/bro ... afari.html I wouldn't recommend saying IE isn't 'that bad' to be honest. You'll get ragetrolled hard, and no, not on Tip.It specifically. Jernlov
You know, quite a large number of users don't really care about this and that, compatibility, etc. Although a lot of these people are now moving over to Firefox, there is still a good number of people who wish to use Internet Explorer as their primary browser. A lot of people tend to be either a) wary, or B) stubborn. Not everyone wants to install new programs or change web browsers: you should just let these people be; which brings me to my point: IE8 is fine for your average computer user, really. You can hurl your statistics at me all you like. I've seen all that crap before. There really wasn't any reason to treat me like an uneducated [bleep]wit either.
