May 28, 200620 yr Das Boot - i guess if you like submarines its a good movie, personally i havent been more bored or uninterested in a movie in a long time. about 50 minutes into i almost shut it off, but i figured i had to watch it to mark it off the top 250 movies list to watch. about an hour and 50 minutes into it you have to turn over the dvd, since the movie is 3 and a half hours long. i ended up skipping a few chapters, and i didnt miss a thing. then i watched about an hour total at 2x speed, the subtitles still worked so i got just as much out of the story. watched some of the rest at normal speed. i wouldnt recommend it to anyone, unless you really, really have nothing better to waste 3 and a half hours on. actually, just sitting on the couch doing nothing, just thinking, for 3.5 hours would probably be less boresome.

May 29, 200620 yr  Indy. I'm speechless. some movies just dont rub me the right way, and i guess this was one :? . X2 - second in the xmen trilogy. it was enertaining. not much else to say. X-Men: The Last Stand - third in the xmen trilogy. it was enertaining. not much else to say.
May 29, 200620 yr Over the Hedge Watched this last night after X3. My one friend saw and he said it wasn't very good and the only funny parts are in the previews. I think he was wrong and it was funny(to me.) The humor that the little kids couldn't understand was great, along with the blatant humor "But I like the cookie" was great =D I somehow liked the movie, but like your friend said, it's not a great comedy animated movies as Madacasgar and Chicken little. It has some pretty nice effect and a not bad overall plot, but it's not the greatest. I've seen it recently and I find it ok. It's not the best. -=Aznhuskarl=- Cleric-=20Cent=- JuggernaughtMore to come...
May 29, 200620 yr Doctor Zhivago - pretty good drama/romance movie. the time period the movie is taking place in makes it pretty interesting. a little too long, for what was accomplished. and the dvd wasnt set up all that great, it uses both sides of a disc and didnt say which side was first. then they put an intermission before the movie starts, and well the dvd wasnt set up very well. anyways, pretty good watch.

May 31, 200620 yr Author Stalker - For the second time now, first time was in a crowded room and behind my PC. Now, that doesn't show much respect to this movie. I received it on DVD, went upstairs, watced it in Russian mono the way it's suposed to be. And I am blown away. Everything is PERFECT the actors are placed to the milimeter precicely, every movement they make is exceptionally well considered. Tarkovsky chooses not to use a lot of music, instead of using music he lets the sounds of "the Zone" guide you. He doesn't choose for a lot of dialogue, but he doesn't choose for too few dialogue either. There isn't a real plot, Tarkovsky didn't thought that was interesting. Interesting dialogues, poems, STUNNING visuals, don't try to 'understand' it during the movie, just let your feelings guide you. That's why this movie has got a different outcome on every different person. And that's why Tarkovsky's movies are not only for the elite, but also for your average Joe. This movie goes straight to the lonely top of World Cinema. A true masterpiece. 10/10 Signature by Maurice SendakWhen the stars make you drool just like a pasta fazool, that's amore!
May 31, 200620 yr Back to the Future - this movie is enjoyable, as always, still havent watched the whole thing at one time though  . this time i missed the first 30 minutes. definently going to look around for a box set, i really want to sit down and watch the whole thing at one time :D . The Manchurian Candidate (1962) - heh, watched the one on the top 250 list this time. i think i liked them both equally, some parts were better in the new one, some parts (specifically the end) were better in the old. the name actually makes a little more sense this time, it was just a name in the new one. anyways, good movie.
May 31, 200620 yr FINALLY I watched The Good, The Bad, and The Ugly. And let me just say, it was well worth the wait. This movie was INCREDIBLE. SO MUCH STYLE, I'm sounding like a raving loon, but there was so much vision put into this film, the shots are extraordinary. Clint Eastwood does a really good job, as do the other actors. The story far surpasses not only every Western I've seen (though that's a very small number), but it surpases almost many other pre-70 movies I've seen aswell. It just flows so well, and pieces together exceptionally. It just felt right, and it was a three hour movie with almost no filler (I watched the extended addition, I couldn't imagine the movie not having this all in. With Apoc Now, I was easily able to pick out what shouldn't have been in the movie, and it turns out it was all added in the redux :\). This movie felt so right, looked so right, and got me really excited about watching more westerns. Gun tricks FTW. NOTE: Mods, don't ever lock this topic. I just went back and looked and I could see like all the movies I've seen this year, and I only got half-way through (was working backwards). I was able to work my way back so I now have 29 movies (about 10 of which I forgot about) that need to be added to my top 100. About 5 more, and I'll have a top 100 list that I'm really proud of (finally! the last few times How2 ran that topic I ended up getting to about 70-80 and then getting bored and added gross amounts of filler. I also noted that: This topic is basically How2PK, Indy500fan and I posting back and forth. The 3 of us have minimum one post per page, but most often 2-3 each (some pages I looked at have like 6 posts by How2Pk)
June 1, 200620 yr I tend to post in bulk :P In the last month, I've watched all 20 james bond movies, Batman Begins, HP: PS, HP: COS, HP: POA, HP: GOF, LOTR: FOTR, LOTR: TT, LOTR: ROTK, Predator 1 / 2, AVP, Oceans 11 / 12 and Flashdance. Now, that's a lot of typing I haven't exactly had time to do since I've watched them all while working on uni stuff
June 1, 200620 yr I also noted that: This topic is basically How2PK, Indy500fan and posting back and forth. The 3 of us have minimum one post per page, but most often 2-3 each (some pages I looked at have like 6 posts by How2Pk) :P . i read every single post, although i dont reply to them very often at all. it may seem as if i just post my movies and dont care about anyone elses, but i do. just thought id point that out, i looked back over some of this topic the other day and thats what it looked like i was doing. is there a way to search just this topic? after i watch a movie (not before, so i dont go in with bias) id like to be able to go back and read what others had to say about it. or read what i had to say about it, if it was a repeat. @rick: that is a crap load of movies :o . all 20 james bond? freaking awesome. On the Waterfront - magnificent, awesome performance by marlon brando. definently a great movie, good story, good everything. the only thing, and i mean the only thing not all that great was the girl. she didnt "convince" me like everyone else did. other than that, great, great movie.
June 1, 200620 yr You can't search only this topic, but you can get close. You search How2PK under autor, and choose Music and Movies under board, and just type in the title of the movie you want to check. Make sure to choose posts and not topics and the right ammount of characters per post(I chose all for my test.) And I usually read what other people wrote about movies =) Edit: Dear America: Letters Home from Vietnam - Watched this in history class and it was entertaining, although we couldn't watch the whole thing(the what-seemed-to-be-hooker-scene was deemed inappropriate) it was still good. My teacher kept saying that some people might cry, but after everything was said and done there wasn't much of a lasting impact. It was educational which was the point of us watching it. So if you want to learn more about Vietnam or see a decent movie, then I would recommend this to you. 7/10
June 2, 200620 yr V for Vendetta - not quite as good the second time. still pretty enertaining, just was missing something. Full Metal Jacket - a really awesome anti-war movie. two main parts to the movie, the first 40 minutes really was the most cliched boot camp training scenerio that ive ever seen. the second half kind of made fun of vietnam and everything to do with it. it was kind of odd to see adam baldwin in another movie after seeing him in serenity/firefly.
June 4, 200620 yr I watched Hostel. Note that this post is extremely heavy on spoilers. If you don't want to spoil the movie, just skip this post entirely, as I'm not sizing it down. [crazy-type]I thought this was a pretty dang entertaining film. This movie was by far the worst movie by content I've ever seen (by this I mean, how this was Rated R, and a massive investigation to make San Andreas Adult Only took place...I don't think I'll ever figure out America). The first half-hour pretty much plays out like a softcore Adult film, easily more nudity than any other R rated movie I've seen. Then from about 30-40 minutes it starts to completely 180, and a sence of dread comes down (the guys lose their Iceland friend), and you know what you're in for. Then, it flips to perhaps the only truly cringe-worthy part of the film, where the only responsible character is getting tortured by that creepy guy. I seriously started shaking when the guy tried to escape and he had no ankles and then he fell down. It went on kinda like this for a bit...I wasn't really bothered by any of the hanging corpses and all the body parts everywhere. Then, from the second that crazy guy slipped on the one guys severed fingers, this movie turned gold. First he got cut up (awesome), then the big guy got capped in the head (awesome), then he made his escape on a corpse cart (morbidly hilarious), his whole escape was amazing, then he went back and saved the girl, and when he cut the eyeball, that was a little bit funny too! It was really, really exciting watching him escape, then running all his enemies down, then the kids crushed the skulls of the other guys cuz he gave them candy, and then when he cut the fingers off the other guy and slit his throat (most people found this to be gory and disgusting, but in that context it was needed and I found it quite entertaining, and then the chick jumped in front of the train and that was again mordbidly funny. It was basically 3 movies in one (one part Americans adventure in Europe, one part torture fest, one part payback)[/crazy-type] Spoilers End Here As far as the movie goes, I enjoyed how the movie played out. The story was intriguing and well told. I liked how there was no character that outright said what was going on (as is the case with most poorly written movies, whether horror or not). It was well told also in that if you weren't paying attention you wouldn't really understand the motives of the characters. It was well shot, gory when it needed to be, but not overly gory throughout (I was under the impression that this was just one big gore fest, when actually >10 minutes of it is actually gory). Personally I think this movie could also be called a jet-black comedy (not the actual torture parts, those are a bit disturbing). It has a pretty dread-filled atmosphere, a pretty interesting and twisty story. It wasn't an amazing film, and definately not as disturbing as people would have you believe, but it was definately a pretty well put together film. As you may have noticed, I normally watch 1-2 new DVD releases per week on Friday/Saturday night, plus 1 from my too-see list mid-week(I've given up on going to the theatre). My midweek movie this week is Psycho :).
June 4, 200620 yr Author Rasḫ̫mon - Kurosawa is such a freaking master. Prooves once more that he is one of the most influenticial people in the entire history of cinema. Before the revolutionary SHICHININ NO SAMURAI in '54 he made a lot of other work in the '50's, this is one of the movies, and just as revolutionary as SHICHININ NO SAMURAI, though in another way. It's about a crime, the story gets told by four different people, all with a different story about the crime, someting completely new and never done before in cinema, it later was a huge inspiration to movies suchs as RESERVOIR DOGS, THE USUAL SUSPECTS and HERO to name a few. But the movie isn't just groundbreaking, it also gives an homage to the silent era in the history of cinema. Each story of how the crime went is brought to you as if it were a scene from a silent movie, although there still is some dialogue. We don't get to hear background sounds, we just hear music as we see what happens, and sometimes dialogue. And to top things of there is the wonderfull simplicity in this, for it's time, somewhat complex way of story telling. Add to that Kurosawa's cast of Mifune and Shimara (amongst others of course), the great score and the brilliant camera work of the forrest scenes. It's such a pleasure to see how everything finds it's way trough the forrests. And you've got, yet again, a Kurosawa masterpiece. 10/10 Signature by Maurice SendakWhen the stars make you drool just like a pasta fazool, that's amore!

June 5, 200620 yr stupid browser went all crazy on me, lost my fairly large post. now its just going to be the cliffs (probably like that more than me rambling anyways :P ) X3 - second time, i liked it, enertaining. The Life of David Gale - great story, great performance by spacey. Far and Away - always cheers me up, favourite tom cruise movie (not the best), directed by ron howard. Con Air - Nicolas Cage, John Cusack, John Malkovich, Ving Rhames, Steve Buscemi, Dave Chappelle, and many others that have somewhat decent roles in other movies. just got interested and started looking through all the other names, i saw three that have/had parts on Lost. one had a part on Firefly also (one episode). i guess thats why i recognized a ton of people from this movie. but its pretty much a generic action movie.
June 5, 200620 yr XXX: State of the Union-i thought it was a really good movie with plenty of action Mission Impossible 3-story line isn't as good as the second one but nonstop action and special effects Big Momma's House 2-Hilarious movie that'll love and the little boy is the best!
June 8, 200620 yr This weeks midweek movie was Psycho. It was pretty good, not my favorite Hitchcock, but pretty good. It was intense and creepy in atmosphere, but didn't really invoke as much tension as other Hitchcock movies. The famous shower scene was quite disappointing, partly because I saw it coming from the beginning, and partly because it was almost unintentionally funny. The scarier part was when *spoiler* the PI comes into the house to investigate and the 'old lady' comes and stabs him.*spoiler ends* It was pretty well done, and the ending evil smile was gold, but overall I didn't think as highly of it as some of the other Hitchcock films I've seen (which themselves are good, but not amazing really).

Lawrence of Arabia - this movie is pretty long. it started off kind of slow, i wasnt really into it. i actually was kind of dissapointed that the #28 movie wasnt turning out to be all that great. it picked up though, and it picked up good. still was a little bit longer than it need have been, but it was worth it. i even went back and watched the first ten minutes (i really couldnt keep my attention on it) once again. decent performances by all, considering i dont think they used many arabic actors in it. obi wan kenobi (aka alec guinness) played the arabic prince. all the major arabic people in it were played by non arabs. thats the only part that really detracted from the movie, and it really didnt detract all that much. david lean was the director, and he also did doctor zhivago, which was pretty good. a few other movies he did ive heard of before but havent seen yet. off topic: the local library has helped out tremendously with the top 250 list, they have a ton of the older movies there. if you are trying to find movies from the list (as i know at least Putter is), maybe try it out. /off topic.

June 9, 200620 yr Author LÃÆü cao di - Maybe better known as MONGOLIAN PING PONG, but most likely it is unknown. Nice movie, director shows what he wanted to show. Very nice photography and music. Also the children do a good job. Too bad it lacks in story-telling because sometimes it gets a bit boring, but still surprising at some moments. Not exceptionally good, but not bad either. 6.5/10 ven te verrassen. 6.5/10 Volver - AlmodÃÆóvar does it again. June 10, 200620 yr Poseidon Ugh... This movie was so bad. Most of the cast just sucked for their roles and couldn't act(there were 2 that did a good job.. out of 7 or something.) The plot was just bad,"Woo let's make it so that these explosions which have no explanations what-so-ever will then be the basis for the end of the plot" ..great. The way how noone but their group was even alive was just a bunch of [cabbage], I doubt that EVERYONE just died just like that, you should have at least seen them somewhere on the ship, not just random [wagon] dead bodies everywhere. This movie would have been a better zombie movie than what it was, it had everything that a good zombie movie has except the zombies and people being eaten. The Omen(2006) Not nearly as bad the Poseidon, had good acting, but there was a bad plot.. Like my friend said, horror movies about religion have loud noises and stuff that jumps at you  Die Hard Watched the first half of this. Still love it
June 10, 200620 yr Firewall: Perhaps the most generic movie I've seen this year. And unintentionally funny a lot of the time. This movie was just laughably bad in every way. I think Harrison Ford wasn't sure what to do with the script that has him as a 50 something banker and he kills several men in their 20's/30's in hand to hand combat. It's just a whole load of balogne, and doesn't deserve to be watched, really.
