So, I got chosen to do an album list, which I was very glad about. You're not going to see any metal on this list, really, I'll say that first. All I can hope is that you take a few things from this list and listen to some albums. You might think a lot of the stuff isn't for you, but you could be surprised. Ever tried out electronic before? It's not just beeps and boops. I thought it was too. As for that my interests lie mostly on rock music, but there's quite a few subgenres on the list, along with a little pop stuff.

Wongtong had the idea to put a youtube sample under each album. That's a good idea, makes it so you don't have to go through much effort to see what I'm talking about. I've done it too.

Now, onto the list. Enjoy.

1. - 2. Justice - Cross ; Justice - A Cross the Universe

Yeah, the list is in no particular order, except for these two albums which are at the top for a reason. Ah, Justice. Where to begin. The French electronic superduo. I started off hearing D.A.N.C.E. from Cross and loving it immediately. It's a bit different from Justice's normal style, with it having lyrics and such, but the mixing in the song made it enough for it to be interesting and unique. I gradually moved on to Genesis, liking that, then both parts of Phantom. By then I knew I found my new favorite artist and bought the album. The album Cross itself gets you into the feel of what Justice is. It provides some very good standard tracks. Their album A Cross the Universe, however is a whole new level of electronic music.

Justice's only second album, a live album recorded at a performance in San Francisco, is my favorite overall album, out of any album. I consider it to be nearly flawless. They take most of the songs from Cross and pack them with a new kind of energy through original mixes and sampling. It's hard to describe until you listen to it. "Waters of Nazareth" starts out with murky distortion and repetition of sound clips and samples. Yeah, it doesn't sound that good in print, but the first 30 seconds are just filled with electronic-driven adrenaline. Then comes in some bleeps and bloops, a buildup, and now you're really into the song. Roaring synths with the screams of the crowd. It's really hard to describe what it sounds like, to be honest. And that's just like the first couple minutes of one song. It's 6 minutes of energy for me.

This leads into "Phantom Pt. 2" clocking in at nearly 10 minutes. The first 45 seconds are pure buildup, then some revving distorted noise, and you're onto a standout performance that completely turns the original song on it's head. This is a song to play while speeding down an empty highway.

Those are just a couple of tracks near the end of the album. The rest of the album is nearly as good, but I consider those to be the pinnacle of it. I'd describe the other tracks for you, but that'd take me too damn long. There's 19 tracks on the album. The album ends with a sampling of "Master of Puppets" by Metallica mixed with a couple lines from fellow label artist Uffie who appears in another one of their songs.

Listening to the live album first won't give you the full appreciation of what Justice does on this album. Listen to a few tracks from "Cross" first. Then listen to A Cross the Universe. It's an album I never get tired of. Hell, I can't dance, but it makes me want to.

3. The White Stripes -Elephant

the_white_stripes_-_elephant.jpg

It was kinda difficult for me to choose which White Stripes album to put on the list; each album seems to have their ups and downs to me. But I decided on Elephant. Jack White is really a great guitarist. He can go from simple and bluesy to pure rock soloing. See the solo for "Black Math." One of my favorite guitar solos. Seven Nation Army is a fun song with nice guitar in the chorus. Meg White's drumming is simple, but does what needs to be done. Definitely a band anyone interested in rock and blues guitar should check out.

4. SebastiAn Ross Ross Ross

Album art creepy enough? SebastiAn is an artist off the same label as Justice (well, Justice isn't on the label anymore, but you get the idea) with much the same style. His music is a bit more laid-back though, but still has some cool songs. His remixes of songs are often great. I love his remix of Killing in the Name, not sure if some of the more hardcore Rage fans would like it though. :P

5. Weezer- Blue Album

Weezer+-+Blue+album.jpg

Weezer's simplicity it what makes me like them so much. An album that's triple-platinum has something going for it. The clean chords in "My Name is Jonas" turn into distorted power chords perfectly, "Buddy Holly" will get me into a good mood any day with it's upbeat lyrics, and "Say It Ain't So" is all in all a great song.

6. The Fall of Troy Manipulator

thefalloftroy-manipulator.jpg

My second-favorite band. The Fall of Troy mix complex guitar with Thomas Erak's awesome screaming and vocals to make something unique. I chose the album Manipulator over Doppelganger because Thomas's vocals seem more emotional and the guitar seems a bit more raw; Doppelganger seemed a bit more well-polished to me, and don't get me wrong, it's a great album, but I prefer Manipulator. Ever since I started up playing guitar, I've always looked to these guys as inspiration. Hardcore, mathcore, screamo, I don't know what the hell they are exactly. But they're great.

7. Flight of the Conchords - Flight of the Conchords

flight_of_the_conchords_300x300.jpg

Ha, these guys are hilarious. It's hard to find catchy music that'll make you laugh at the same time (for a good reason) but Flight of the Conchords nail it. Simple acoustic guitar playing backs humorous singing (and rapping at some points). Clever stuff right here.

[hide=FoTC - I can't be bothered to type this song's name >_<][yt]LN2gNjqvtBg[/yt][/hide]

8. Muse - Black Holes and Revelations

2667346.jpg

Muse really seems well-liked by most everyone despite them being a very mainstream band - doesn't really work out like that most of the time. I can't give a very good description for this album because there's not much to say about Muse that hasn't already been said. They're a solid rock band with some really catchy songs.

[hide=Muse - Assassin][yt]uYbsGMPfi54[/yt][/hide]

9. Underoath They're Only Chasing Safety

Underoath_-_Theyre_Only_Chasing_Safety.jpg

This album gets me pumped. I haven't really given their new stuff a good listening to, and I've had this album for quite a while, so it's grown on me. They're really not that good musically, but the music really gets me energized. Drop D guitars and screaming does that.

10. Coheed and Cambria - Good Apollo, I'm Burning Star IV, Volume One: From Fear Through The Eyes of Madness

COHEED+&+CAMBRIA+-+GOOD+APOLLO+2.jpg

Kind of rock-operaish. Heck. it's prog. I love Claudio Sanchez's vocals. And his hair, of course. Definitely worth checking out if you haven't listened to C&C before. Welcome Home is a standout, and The Suffering is a surprisingly catchy song for something off a prog album.

[hide=Coheed and Cambria - Welcome Home][yt]vGpbd6BUO0I[/yt][/hide]

11. Jimi Hendrix - Experience Hendrix: The Best of Jimi Hendrix

Experience-Hendrix-The-Best-Of-Jimi-Hendrix.jpg

Favorite guitarist. Arguably the best of all time. His technical abilities weren't really that good, but it never mattered. His ability to make the guitar sound, well, not like a guitar, was unmatched. Bluesy guitar and melodies make this an essential CD.

12. Motion City Soundtrack Even if it Kills Me

evenifitkillsme300.jpg

I'm really not into these guys that much anymore, but they're a great pop-rock band. They're special for me personally as they were the first band I saw live. Justin Pierre's voice is interesting, as well as MCS's use of a moog synth. "This is for Real" is purely simple pop-rock fare, while "Antonia" and "Even if it Kills Me" make you want to sing along and try hard not to feel sad. Their earlier stuff is a little better imo, but this is my favorite album of theirs.

I love just about every single album on there. Cool idea with the videos too, that's very helpful. Nice to see someone that likes Motion City Soundtrack, too. And Weezer, although I'm a little ashamed of loving them haha

catch it now so you can like it before it went so mainstream

Haha lent, I never would have pictured you liking MCS. :P Good to see you like lots of the albums.

Gauper, what albums? Granted a lot of us listen to the same albums as they're often talked about on here and get spread around.

Maybe there's not as much as I thought, but I've definitely seen the FotC and Mars Volta albums on one of these before.

Yeah, the Mars Volta album has been on at least a couple and the FotC album I know was on Jaerk's list. Just goes to show that the albums are that good? ;)

Not a fan; to each his own.

Yeah. I've tried pretty hard to get into metal, but I really just haven't been able to. It could still happen though as my taste is music has changed pretty dramatically in the past year or so.

This is a great list! Pretty much everything except Natalie Portman's Shaved Head is in my music library already. Love that you have The Killers in there and Death Cab's Plans (Although, I think Transatlantcism is a tad better). I think you've inspired me to create my own (don't worry, I'll wait my turn).

I love this list.

Elephant is the best White Stripes album by far. Seven Nation Army and Black Math right of the back, then I Want To Be The Boy To Warm Your Mother's Heart and Ball and Biscuit (my favorite because of the blues riff). Great album.

Blue Album - The three songs mentioned are good, but Undone (The Sweater Song) has to get some love. Buddy Holly is still my favorite off the album.

SRV is the best blues guitarist I know of. Period. Love Struck Baby, Texas Flood, Testify, Rude Mood. Glorious. <3:

Wolfmother's self-titled album has so many great songs on it. I believe I posted it on the "Albums you can listen all the way through" topic a while back.

And RHCP Greatest Hits - My first Chili Pepper cd and what started it all for me. <3:

Great list!

It's great you know what you're talking about rustiod. Everything you've said is 100% accurate a true.

That being said...your a [bleep]ing [bleep] douchebag, and none of your advice will ever (or should ever) be taken seriously because of it.

disregard good advice because the giver is a douche

I didn't know Jimi Hendrix was arguably the best of all time, I thought it was just agreed by everyone he is. :?

I wouldn't say everyone thinks so. As an actual technical guitar player he wasn't that good, so I'd imagine some people would be against him for that.

Marry me

Nahhh

Wow, after listening to a few samples of a couple of albums I'll definitely be getting some of those artists on there ;D

Justice sounds awesome :P and I finally downloaded Elephant by The White Stripes after seeing it on the list.

I downloaded Flight of the Conchords out of curiosity hah and Weezer is pretty good so far.

I'm going on a 7hr trip tomorrow, plenty of time to listen to them properly.

Most of the bands I've heard of but haven't actually heard their music. Judging by the bands listed above, I should listen to more of them :P

Awesome list

Also, Muse
