LiChef
Before I start, I'd like to say that this is not a suggestion nor is it something that I desperately want to have implemented in the game. It is just a discussion, to hear your views. Back to business. What would RuneScape be like if Jagex decided to change the maximum level from 99 to 100. Now i'm aware that with a cape you can achieve this, but technically you haven't levelled up. So what would change if Jagex added that extra level onto all the skills? Since the difference between levels 98 and 99 currently stands at a frankly whopping 1,228,825xp, there would have to be an even bigger amount of xp in between 99 and 100. Presumably something in the 1,500,000xp range. This, of course, would require much more training. So what would the reward be? Apart from being the highest level at something and having your name in the hi scores for near all eternity. Well of course you would get your cape back. Because you can't expect Jagex to give you a cape for getting the penultimate level can you? And we can also presume that Jagex would raise the price of capes from 99K to 100K, just to make it make sense. What other rewards would you be expecting? Well, I think to make it worthwhile, those who reach level 100 should be able to obtain/make/kill a new item/monster. What kind of items would these be? Example: Agility: You would be able to run for that little bit longer, or that little bit faster. Maybe you will even be able to use a new Agility Course, with a special prize at the end. Money? Xp? Or even a new item to help advance your Agility even more? Overall, I think that RuneScape would be slowly, but surely, be introducing a new kind of elite players. Or will the hype die down and the new items become a more common sight than the raw chicken? Discuss the affect a level 100 would have on RuneScape's economy/general play/etc. LiChef /m\_(-.-)_/m\"The sort of twee person who thinks swearing is any way a sign of lack of education or of a lack of verbal interest is just [bleep]ing lunacy" ~ Stephen Fry The Creativity Shack - A forum for Writers, Artists and Musicians
Grasle
New rewards - possibly, though I doubt it. Motivation - yes. Also, level 100 is around 14391160 XP, meaning it's 1,356,729 XP from 99-100.
Alksei
it would not help much...since all those powerlevelers and ones that already have all 99 skills (gert, kingduffy) would have all 100 skills in a matter of 2 weeks. also people would get angry because they worked so hard for their skill cape and then they get it taken away and have to get another 1.5m xp :wall: . Naruto_1001
Hey, Creating a new level (100) won't change that much. Max F2P combat will be 127/128 and max member combat 139/140. That's not that much of a difference. I don't see much of a difference in most of the other skills either, except for Smithing, finally we won't be able to make four new items at 99 but get plates placed to 100 instead, atleast that's what I think they would do. Fishing/Mining/Woodcutting, it will all go a bit faster but that won't even be noticed. Kind regards, Naruto 1001
Dexek
Just seems like some additional experience to gain for the same skillcape. I don't really see why they'd give us much more of a bonus. You can expect to be more efficient with each stat, but that's about it. 123neopet
As long as they didn't do an exp reset (they wouldn't) in most skills there would be several hundred, if not thousand, people who would instantly get 100 in that skill. It wouldn't take them weeks, because they already have that much exp. P2P forever!... Or at least 'til <insert excuse here> happens98% of people have signatures with made up statistics in them. If you're one of the 2% that doesn't, copy this and add it to your signature.
gorgoroth
There was something like this a while ago and i heard someone mention that its extremely hard to go past lvl 99 because it might be filled with bugs. Players might start hitting negative numbers. sadukar123
You can max your stats at 255, I don't see why 100 would cause any difference. Naruto_1001
if your going to increase it make it at least around level 135 Thats not possible, yet. Currently with the limit of 200M xp in each skill you could gain level 126, this will be around 188M.
Michaael
110 might not be a bad cap, but you have the issue of things like bosses becoming too easy. It might throw the balance of the game off from being 99 based for so long. 5,693rd to 99 Slayer on 10/08/2009

Yes, but they'd introduced harder bosses, better equipment, etc. People wouldn't be so worried about the prices of Godswords if lvl 80+ equipment came out. Me_Hate_Libs
I don't think raising the exp cap from 200 to 300 million would be all that complicated. It could be, but I don't think so. Naruto_1001
If you could become level 150 your only fooling yourself. Look at the last few posts made in this topic: maybe they could introduce new bosses! Ya and some new armour! Ya and then? Your killing this new boss for this new armour as fast as your killing the current bosses for the current armour but you have to train 100 times as hard to get that high. This is the way I saw it explained by someone else... A common practice for programmers is to use only single digits instead of decimals for experience, i.e. 1 xp=0.01 xp when they are coding. So the java limit of 2.1b stops this. It's only 200m instead of the actual max is for aesthetic purposes. Yeah, that was probably a little confusing. Mike_Ike111
Absolutely nothing would happen. There is no end game content for at least 90% of our skills. Jagex still hasn't woken up to the fact that their game is still lacking high level content, and a simple skill level update would not get them motivated to update what we have been asking for. There's no way to do this otherwise. However, that would double the storage required for every single character, for something that only a tiny minority would use. They looked at it, and said that it isn't worth it. There was even a question asked about it in MMG's live Q&A. Jack of all trades, master of thieving. 259th to 99 thieving. LiChef
I would honestly love the thought of "Level 100" in a skill, purely because rounded numbers look so nice to me! That was actually my original thought that started off this topic  I think we're definately lacking in high level things to be getting on with. I mean a cape is one thing as a reward, but you can only wear one at a time at the end of the day. And if you had 99 in everything you'd probably only wear Summoning, Prayer, Construction or Slayer capes. I think Jagex needs to release something for every skill at level 99, like they did with smithing, but less of an anti-climax. I mean you get to level 99 smithing, you spend all that time and money, and the best you can make is an F2P set of armour that isn't half as good as it's big brothers. It's pretty simple really. A stong new Slayer Monster. A new tree. A new enchanted necklace. A new spell. All simple stuff. Mungo0
Hm, I'd like to have 100s, purely of the looks, as others have said, but then I think it'd be kind of a waste to do that, since we don't have too much high leveled content in the game. So, if Jagex had something to add, such as you mentioned, something to truly aim for. If they did this correctly, it could tie a few skills more closely, such as a lv 99 tree needing 99 Woodcutting to cut, 99 firemaking to burn and 99 fletching to fletch it. But then, Fletching, Firemaking and Woodcutting are very common, so it wouldn't be that great of an achievement. Regardless, a lot of skills need higher leveled content. Yes... Yes, that's what he said. :D
