Carmel High School graduate jailed in the fatal shooting of a friend at Purdue University was released on $10,000 bond Sunday.

Cory Lynch, 22, is facing preliminary charges of reckless homicide and felony pointing of a firearm in the shooting of Landon Siela, 21, Fort Wayne, about 7 p.m. Saturday.

Lynch, a Purdue junior, told police the shooting in his campus apartment was an accident. West Lafayette Police Sgt. Jason Philhower said Lynch and his roommate, William Calderon, 22, Fort Wayne, were playing a joke on Siela when a semi-automatic handgun discharged and the bullet struck Siela in the neck.

"They said they wanted to scare him when he came out of the bathroom," Philhower said.

Siela was not a student but was visiting Lynch and Calderon on the weekend before classes start at Purdue.

Philhower said the men were drinking liquor at the time. Lynch and Calderon took breath tests and would have been considered legally drunk had they been driving. Philhower would not say what they registered on the breath tests.

Lynch and Calderon, also a Purdue junior, pointed handguns at Siela when he left the bathroom, police said. They thought both guns were unloaded, but Lynch's pistol fired a shot, police said.

One gun was legally registered to Calderon, but police were unsure who owned the other one.

Lynch and Calderon called police from their cell phones after the shooting. One student was giving Siela cardiopulmonary resuscitation when police and paramedics arrived.

Calderon was charged with misdemeanor pointing a firearm and false informing. He also posted bond and was released from the Tippecanoe County Jail.

Lynch graduated from Carmel High School in 2005. Attempts to reach him Sunday night were unsuccessful.

Story was here.

So I guess this raises the question, was this really worth it? Would it have been that funny to do this? Plus, why wouldn't they just take the clips out of the gun in the first place?

I suppose you all can tell stories of your pranks gone wrong and stuff. But yea.

Unfinished netherrack symbol of Khorne.

Never forget. ~creeper face w/single tear~

DO YOU HEAR THE VOICES TOO?!?!

Nobody should ever point guns around like that so confidently. Only aim at what you intend to kill.

So I guess this raises the question, was this really worth it?

They were just drunk and stupid at the time, obviously it wasn't worth being jailed for and having charges against them.

And as for your other question, I haven't really had any pranks go wrong.

Yes.

Are you saying they should be let off because it was an accident?

I shall take my flock underneath my own wing, and kick them right the [bleep] out of the tree. If they were meant to fly, they won't break their necks on the concrete.

I phrased that wrong, I meant that it wasn't worth it to pull the prank then end up getting thrown in jail. Obviously they shouldn't be let off.

Scare him with a loaded gun? Nice job...idiots. They obviously should have checked. I'm trying to picture this prank in my mind and it seems stupid.

So, no this wasn't worth it and it isn't a funny prank.

Why the hell do people feel the need to own a gun if they don't even know how to use it?

Good I was thinking  wut? From your first post

People know the risks and dangers. Personally I disagree with allowing every other American to carry a firearm but ok, if they're smart enough to get drunk with 2 guns nearby they should face the consequences.

Pointing a gun at someone, loaded or not isn't a good thing ever.

[bleep] the law, they can eat my dick that's word to Pimp

Reminds me of last nights episode of entourage. Turtle, Drama, and Vince got guns and they all act tough and Drama's shots a window out so they all drop the guns and decide to get a real security system.

Sad story though sounds like something you'd see in a movie or tv show.

Yep. If you point a gun at a person, you only intend to shoot. If you intend to shoot, you intend to kill. There's no "pranks" involved with something that can kill a man.

That's why I rarely tell jokes about my fists.

catch it now so you can like it before it went so mainstream

Why was the gun loaded? I don't know much about guns, but I would assume people don't keep them loaded all the time.

'Cause the dude Lynch was really visiting to kill his friends. Little did he know they all got smashed and ended up shooting him first.

And Lent, don't even joke about your fists dude. It's not funny man.

We keep our shotgun loaded for home defense. But a pistol? Or a rifle? No. A rifle would shoot, go through walls and kill whoever's sleeping in the next room, and a pistol could do that too. That's why shotguns are generally the home defense of choice.

I wouldn't keep a pistol loaded if I had one, that's for sure. If someone found it, they'd probably think they're SO RAD and pretend to pop caps. Since I'd probably have one with a safety system like my brother-in-law's, it would be very easy to shoot if you didn't know that was its safety.

Soz.

I'm guessing they took the clip out, but a round was chambered.

Still, they're idiots. It's one thing if it's like a bb gun or something, but a real gun is just stupid.

They were acting like the drunk idiots they were :/

Unless your target is close to someone important. Then your scatter shot is useless.

First thing my dad told me when I went shooting: "Never aim a gun at anyone (unless in self defense), even if you are sure its not loaded."

The sour dough of the epitmous pie hungers for another's sweet lips to be dulled into a state of most irreverant humbleness

TUBULAR BELLS!

that seriously sucks. a better toy for this prank would of been those guns that pop those red circle rings and makes a loud gunshot. (like what they use on running competitions when the race starts)

Bottom line is, pointing any kind of gun at anyone without the intention to kill is just plain stupid.

I was told the exact same thing.

It's good to be back.

One of my teachers told me a story similar-ish to this one, except it was a BB gun and no one died.
