Impossible Achievements

I've always thought that all achievements,no matter how hard, were fair. I still don't agree with cheating for achievements, but some of them just shouldn't exist in the first place.

When I came on to Garry's Mod yesterday, I saw that Valve had added 15 achievements (though for some reason I can only see 3). One of them was this: Addict - Spent one year of your life on Gmod!

No. Just no. Who the hell is EVER going to get this achievement?

So what achievements do you think are just not right? Post the game, achievement name, and exactly what the achievement is.

I'm sure someone is going to leave their computer on for a year without using it just for that achievement.

But, all achievments that require you to top the multiplayer scoreboard. Only like 5 people will ever get that. And all multiplayer achievements on old games that no one plays.

Is this about overall, personal achievements or only for Xbox games achievements?

If the first one: Complete BattleToads/Ghosts n' Goblins without being hit once and not using a single cheat/game genie.

If the latter: no idea

Vesperia Master for Tales of Vesperia. You get it for getting every other achievement. You pretty much have to complete the game 100%, which will take more than one playthrough and at least 100 hours. There are fun ones like beating the game in under 15 hours (Your first run will take at least 30) and many items and titles are very easy to miss.

Once you do all that you get the achievement. It is worth 0 gamer points. Good job, you earned them.

The same game has the Secret Mission 17 achievement. You get it by hitting a challenging boss with a specific attack from a specific party member while said boss is in guard break. Guard break happens rarely, doesn't last long, and ends when the enemy/character is attacked.

Valve should just auto-ban anyone who reaches that achievement with the message "Go out; get laid." Because, damn.

The first parts good, but the second should be "Do not reproduce".

Actually, that would be more fitting. Kudos.

Earth, Wind, and Fire Achievements on WoW.

I don't think most people have read it, cause it makes absolutely no sense:

Defeat Archavon the Stone Watcher, Emalon the Storm Watcher, and Koralon the Flame Watcher within 60 seconds of each other in 10-player mode.

Oh wow. After playing both Tales of Symphonia's, I can say that definitely seems difficult  Not impossible, but very difficult.

Warhawk - General Rank. Takes about average 900-1200 hours.

Street Fighter IV is impossible for me, I've reached 75% of trophies and have no chance of completing all the charecters combos which will get me the last 5.

I don't think it's Impossible.

Have to do Koralon --> Emalon --> Archavon

DPS Koralon down to about 5% then leave a tank and a healer in the middle with him.

Then go to Emalon and nuke him to about 5% too and bring him to Arcahavon.

Them DPS Archavon like normal but kill the adds. When he gets to about 50% nuke down Emalon and Koralon before going all out on Archavon.

Probably possible to do it Archavon then Emalon but I think that way might have more problems.

You'd need 3 tanks, 3 healers than 4 uber DPS. It's hard but I don't see it as impossible. The 25 man version should be a lot easier.

I don't think we have to worry about them reproducing.

So true!

There is an achievement on RACEDRIVER: GRiD where you have to finish a lap in front of everyone else on professional difficulty, which is impossible.

There was another achievement on GRiD, where you had to win a race and cross the finish line backwards, which I thought I would never get until I did it accidentally.

90% of the Guitar Hero achievments (pick any one) are either impossible or so bloody suicidally-frustrating to get.

I have to disagree there. I personally am really good at GH so the achieves come easy for me.

Yeah, none of them are that hard. Just a bit annoying that some of them require you to be good on all 4 instruments :P

OXM did an article on some of the hardest achievements to get...

[hide=looong list]#10: Earth Defense Force 2017 - "All stages cleared (inferno)" (300g) - "how long does it take?": 110 hours Nearly impossible until you have over 8000 armor upgrades, which can take over 70 hours.

#9: Lego Star Wars - "100%" (100g) - 50+ hours. You need to find 160 gold bricks, 360 mini-kits, and 36 red bricks, beat 20 bounty hunter levels, and every story level atleast three times.

#8 Bullet Witch "Hell difficulty mode cleared" (1g) - 8 hours. 1g for beating this crappy game on the hardest difficulty? No thanks. Atleast it didn't take long to get.

#7 Kingdom Under Fire: Circle of Doom "Curse of the Developer" (200g) - 200 hours. You need to level all 6 characters up to max. One is hard enough, but all 6?

#6 Bladestorm: The Hundred Years' War "Book of Engineering" (50g) - 70 hours. This achievement rests solely on your luck. Once you level up every core unit to level 100, there's a CHANCE this mission will appear. If it does, you have to be VERY careful no to fail it or anything. Of course, it might not appear AT ALL.

#5 Warriors Orochi 2 "All Difficulties Cleared" (100g) - 300+ hours. This is suicide. You have to beat all 60 missions 5 times each, go through 2200 scenarios, level-up nearly 70 characters to level 99, and earn atleast 2300 Proficiencies. HOLY CRAP.

#4Battlefield 2: Modern Combat "Veteran" (50g) - 190 hours. You don't have to actually win 500 matches, you just have to take part in them, but if your connection drops, it doesn't count.

#3 Gears of War "Seriously..." (50g) - 170-200 hours. I don't personally see why this is #3... but as many of you know, you need to get 10k kills in multiplayer in order to get this. Since there is no counter to keep track of your progress, it makes it a pain to get. Also, some people say it's glitched, having reported it unlocking at 15k+ kills.

#2 Rumble Roses XX "Shop Complete" (250g) - 900-1000 hours. WOW. This game isn't that great, but the fact that alot of the costumes have such horrible criteria for unlocking them make this nearly impossible. (side-note: This made Gamerscore champ STtheKing to quit score-whoring...)

#1 Final Fantasy XI "Reach level 75" (30g) - 1000+ hours. The grand-daddy of them all. To level up even just one character to 99 can take up to TWO YEARS, depending on how much no-lifing you do. But for 30g, is it really worth your job, girlfriend, and maybe your legs as well? Only one person, g3n3rik, has a legit 1000 Gamerscore on this game.[/hide]

Phew... alot of typing. But one I think they forgot to mention is Halo Wars' achievement "Running the Show" (or something like that). You need to reach General rank, which requires 2.4 million XP. A reader wrote in about this saying he had 313,000 XP. The average game lasts around 25 minutes, which means he has speant 78 hours just to get one-eighth of the way there. That means that this achievement requires atleast 700 hours to get. GF alot of those on the list above.

P.S. I couldn't find the article on OXM's official site, but it's in their July issue.

Unfinished netherrack symbol of Khorne.

Never forget. ~creeper face w/single tear~

i have earth defence force 2017. i'd say that achievement is hard. levels are a complete [bleep] to live through in order to beat some of them on inferno mode.

Whatever the achievement was to unlock an easter egg in the original Donkey Kong game.

http://www.joystiq.com/2009/07/06/donke ... ears-late/

First, everyone knew this achievement/easter egg was available, just no one knew how.

It took 26 years and a lot of encouragement from employees to get people working on finding out how to get the achievement. Yet who the easter egg is for, doesn't even care.

So think about that, this would have been an impossible achievement that would never have been found or won or achieved, without cheating (going through the code) or the amount of prestige to obtain it after so long.

The point is, figuring out how to get the achievement is how you'd get the achievement, like figuring it out would be equal to killing 500k zombies in Left 4 Dead in under two days with no mods. That's pretty incredible and deserves credit.
