mkjagz
I played RuneScape a long time ago. 2001, long time ago. When I played monsters were in 2D and the game later became known as "Runescape Classic." Members version was only an idea Jagex had. Rune Armour was godly and anyone who had it was a God. There were exactly 3 people at or over level 100. When I quit I was combat level 67, I believe, which later translated to 73 (now 74). At the time I had two sets of rune, had completed every quest and was in the champion's guild. I was a high-level. There were 5 servers when I started playing, maybe 10 when I quit. I've logged on and dabbled here and there since then, nothing serious, only logging in once in a few years, literally. The new game I find myself with today is completely different than what runescape was more than 8 years ago. I have the want to play on a serious level again and I find myself disadvantaged. The world itself is foreign to me; before the graphics update it took maybe 10 minutes to walk-- we couldnt run back then-- across the map. This world is huge, and I am now a runescape member making the world that much bigger. I came from a day when I knew how many black knights spawned in which room, where every guard in the game spawned, how many nodes to find where, how many cabbages were in which field, which items were located where, and exactly how to nearly every thing possible. I hung out with one of the two most famous old-school RS clans, the Sabres (back when the Black Knights still existed, from the older days when every server was a pvp server). I partied with the richest people in the game, you know? None of that means anything now. I'm totally lost. I've been dabbling in skills but I don't really understand what I'm doing. Often I find myself surrounded by 100+ level players, when I was used to seeing most every other player in green level with maybe 1 player an hour being a red level. I'm a no one. I've done nothing. I'm wondering why there are glove slots on my character, I'm still wearing full rune. The question is: Where do I start? I want to be someone again. I was once a person who would walk by and be recognized by other players. I want that once more. Which path do I set my feet at? Advice, anyone? Lugia_Lvl138
My advice: kill Dragons, or train up to the point that you can kill Dragons. Dragon Bones are at an all time high, except for maybe when they came out, and I didn't play back then. As for familiarizing yourself with the new bigger RS, just take it a little bit at a time. I started around August 05, so I really don't know what playing in 01 was like, but when I went from Free to Members, the first thing I did, was try out the Pickpocket option that had taunted me so in Free Worlds. I got 1-5 Thieving like that. Then I went through the gate from Falador to Taverly and did Druidic Ritual, and started training my Herblore. And so on and so forth, and now I'm level 138 with most of RS mapped out in my head. You woldn't happen to have any Pumpkins or Party Hats would you? While they were supposed to be "for fun" items, they were tradeable and only dropped on Halloween and Christmas 01. Because of that, they kept on increasing in value over time. Pumpkins are now like 14 Million and Party Hats are at least 175 Million each. I have 2 Party Hats and paid a very large amount of money for them. 4x Phat owner: Blue, Green, 2x Purple 3100+ GWD bosses soloed.Solo GWD Drops:5 Bandos Plates, 4 Bandos Boots, 3 Bandos Hilts, 2 Arma Helms, Arma Skirt, Arma Plate, 3 Arma Hilts, 4 Zammy Spears, Steam Staff, 15 Sara Swords, 6 Sara Hilts, 29 Shards. I was once a person who would walk by and be recognized by other players. I want that once more. Which path do I set my feet at? Advice, anyone? Just find something you enjoy and do it. Branch out when that is getting boring. Don't start out trying to get recognition or it will seem impossible to attain. You can set it as a long-term goal, though. Just set some smaller goals while learning the new Runescape and to keep you interested. Until you know the game, you won't be able to get your old status back. Lordjake
my advice is to relearn how to enjoy the game. "being someone" is harder than ever now, since there are now 100k 'someones' playing at any given time, instead of 1000. being a newb again can be fun, you just have to remember how. A lot has changed since back then, so don't rush through the basics - appreciate all the little things Jagex has improved on.

aspeeder
I would have strongly recommended that you start out in F2P, things changed enough that you have plenty to do and keep you entertained for at least a week or two, if not for months. In mems there is sooooooooooo much that has changed that you will feel both overwhelmed and discouraged. There have been fundamental changes to the way that even combat works (Magic and range were created as independant combat methods, rather than supplementing melee) so you may want to read up on the changes here here. http://i700.photobucket.com/albums/ww6/aspeeder/Siggy_zpsewaiux2t.png 99 Strength since 6/02/10 99 Attack since 9/19/10 99 Constitution since 10/03/10 99 Defense since 3/14/11 99 Slayer since 8/30/11 99 Summoning since 9/10/11 99 Ranged since 09/18/11 99 Magic since 11/12/11 99 Prayer since 11/15/11 99 Herblore since 3/29/12 99 Firemaking since 5/15/12 99 Smithing since 10/04/12 99 Crafting since 9/16/13 99 Agility since 9/23/13 99 Dungeoneering since 1/1/14 99 Fishing since 2/4/14 99 Mining since 2/28/14 99 Farming since 6/04/14 99 Cooking since 6/11/14 99 Runecrafting since 10/10/14 9 Fletching since 11/11/14 99 Thieving since 11/14/14 99 Woodcutting since 11/20/14 99 Construction since 12/03/14 99 Divination since 2/22/15 99 Hunter since 2/23/15 99 Invention since 01/20/17 99 Archaeology since 5/14/22 99 Necromancy since 11/22/25 Quest Point Cape since 08/20/09 Maxed since 2/23/15 Fire Cape since 02/27/13 Slayer: 3 Leaf-Bladed Swords, 8 Black Masks, 2 Hexcrests, 26 Granite Mauls, 5 Focus Sights, 33 Abyssal Whips, 9 Dark Bows, 1 Whip Vine, 3 Staffs of Light, 15 Polypore Sticks Dragon: 10 Draconic Visages, 7 Shield Left Halves, 20 Dragon Boots, 40 Dragon Med Helms, 8 Dragon Platelegs, 6 Dragon Spears, 20 Dragon Daggers, 5 Dragon Plateskirts, 1 Dragon Chainbody, 63 Off-hand Dragon Throwing Axes, 19 Dragon Longswords, 27 Dragon Maces, 1 Dragon Ward Treasure Trails: Saradomin Full Helm, Ranger Boots, Rune Body (t), Saradomin Vambraces, Various God Pages Misc:1 Onyx,1 Ahrim's Hood, 1 Guthan's Chainskirt, 1 Demon Slayer Boots
mkjagz
I had a pumpkin, once. I accidentally ate it a few years ago. As for party hats, I don't have any, but my friend has several if I recall correctly. I didn't log on during christmas that year and later discovered what I had missed out on. Last time I was active party hats were 15 million (I remember when they were, like, 10k..). Sigh.
Gandorf61
Moved to Help & Advice. My only suggestion would just be to explore, do some quests, and try to get a feel for all the new surroundings. As you become more familiar with all the new areas you will be able to find the best methods and you favourite things to do like you did before. Sometimes being lost in the game can be fun and just roaming about can be a great way to learn about all the new features. Lunar_Drifter
Play it like you mean it. Don't play for e-fame, that's just stupid. If that's your thing, then go for it if it makes you happy. Not to sound harsh but to me, you sound like a washed up nobody that used to be a somebody. You were cryogenically frozen at your prime, but your prime 8 years ago is just the beginning of the climb nowadays. You're overwhelmed with the new world, and you just wish everything was like it used to be. But at least you accept that it won't and are looking for new ways to regain your someone-ness- I give you props for that. Slay green dragons in the wilderness for now. With bones and hides, you'll be racking up a few hundred thousand GP an hour. Those are unheard of amounts back in RSC, but 100k an hour is considered a low amount nowadays. mkjagz
Roughly what will I need to slay green dragons? I mean as far as I recall the only dragon I had to fight was the 110 dragon for the dragon slayers' quest in the champions guild. I don't remember how difficult it was or what preparations I would need to take at combat 74 (62 str, 60 def, 60 attack, 60 hp)
Lunar_Drifter
Grab your Dragon Longsword, full rune, and anti-dragon fire shield. If you have the cash, buy a pair of dragon boots (if not, rune will work). Metal boots will boost your strength. Get a glory amulet or strength amulet. An obsidian cape will work here (for extra defense) but you may not want to risk that much in the wilderness. Remember, there is no PKing anymore on normal worlds, but there are high level (and dangerous) creatures called Revenants that will attack you if you're within their level. Before you head out, grab some Varrock teleport tablets from the Grand Exchange in case you run low on health or get attacked by a revenant and need an easy way out. There should be a guide around here. Found it: viewtopic.php?f=180&t=731302 You'll want to take note of the "Eastern Dragons" section. (Note: click the "hide" button to expand that part of the guide). Retired Tip.It Mod || Admin and Founder of Caesar 3 Mod Squad! All are welcome! Just a bit more advice on dragon hunting: you may also want to buy a Forthintry Bracelet from the ge and have that equipped in the wilderness, this will prevent the revenants from teleblocking you and allow you to escape quickly and without many problems. http://i700.photobucket.com/albums/ww6/aspeeder/Siggy_zpsewaiux2t.png 99 Strength since 6/02/10 99 Attack since 9/19/10 99 Constitution since 10/03/10 99 Defense since 3/14/11 99 Slayer since 8/30/11 99 Summoning since 9/10/11 99 Ranged since 09/18/11 99 Magic since 11/12/11 99 Prayer since 11/15/11 99 Herblore since 3/29/12 99 Firemaking since 5/15/12 99 Smithing since 10/04/12 99 Crafting since 9/16/13 99 Agility since 9/23/13 99 Dungeoneering since 1/1/14 99 Fishing since 2/4/14 99 Mining since 2/28/14 99 Farming since 6/04/14 99 Cooking since 6/11/14 99 Runecrafting since 10/10/14 9 Fletching since 11/11/14 99 Thieving since 11/14/14 99 Woodcutting since 11/20/14 99 Construction since 12/03/14 99 Divination since 2/22/15 99 Hunter since 2/23/15 99 Invention since 01/20/17 99 Archaeology since 5/14/22 99 Necromancy since 11/22/25 Quest Point Cape since 08/20/09 Maxed since 2/23/15 Fire Cape since 02/27/13 Slayer: 3 Leaf-Bladed Swords, 8 Black Masks, 2 Hexcrests, 26 Granite Mauls, 5 Focus Sights, 33 Abyssal Whips, 9 Dark Bows, 1 Whip Vine, 3 Staffs of Light, 15 Polypore Sticks Dragon: 10 Draconic Visages, 7 Shield Left Halves, 20 Dragon Boots, 40 Dragon Med Helms, 8 Dragon Platelegs, 6 Dragon Spears, 20 Dragon Daggers, 5 Dragon Plateskirts, 1 Dragon Chainbody, 63 Off-hand Dragon Throwing Axes, 19 Dragon Longswords, 27 Dragon Maces, 1 Dragon Ward Treasure Trails: Saradomin Full Helm, Ranger Boots, Rune Body (t), Saradomin Vambraces, Various God Pages Misc:1 Onyx,1 Ahrim's Hood, 1 Guthan's Chainskirt, 1 Demon Slayer Boots
Youmu
You might want to start F2P first, try out all the things that you want to do there, then move on to P2P. Also, read some guides in the KB first. Honestly, it's not that hard to get accustomed to Runescape again. I myself created an account in 2007, quit for a good while, then returned in 2008. I looked at some guides in the Runescape site, soon enough I was enjoying the game again and became 900 total level in F2P as of now. Anyways, train your skills in F2P first. Here are some nice training spots for each of your skills: -Melee (Attack, Strength, Defense): Stronghold of Security, second floor (catacomb of famine), go to the flesh crawlers in the bottom-right corner of this floor. -Ranged: Stronghold of Security, first floor (vault of war), go to the minotaurs in the bottom-right corner of this floor. -Magic: Buy ores in the Grand Exchange, and superheat. Use a fire staff, and nature runes. -Hitpoints: Just train your combat skills. -Prayer: Buy big bones in the Grand Exchange, and bury. -Mining: Wilderness north of Edgeville, you will see a mining spot with two iron rocks. Powermine there, it is always empty. -Fishing: Lumbridge River (eastern part), click on the fishing spot and Lure the fish. -Woodcutting: South of Draynor Bank, there will be several willows for you to cut. -Runecrafting: Air altar, craft air runes. Run from Falador bank to the altar, and repeat. -Cooking: Buy raw/uncooked food in the Grand Exchange, and cook at the Lumbridge Castle cooking range. Go to the Lumbridge bank to refresh your inventory. -Firemaking: Buy logs (maple recommended) in the Grand Exchange, and light logs there. Try lighting in a line. -Crafting: Buy 1 needle, lots of thread, and hard leather from the Grand Exchange. Make hard leather bodies and repeat. -Smithing: Same as magic. Superheat trains Smithing XP as well. If all else fails, go to the Runescape KB, or look at some guides in Tip it. Wish you luck in your returning. : BlogTrimmed | Master Quester | Final BossBoss pets: Bombi | Shrimpy | Ellie | Tz-Rek Jad | Karil the Bobbled | Mega Ducklings120s: Dungeoneering | Invention

Best thing i can tell you to do is read up about runescape runescape wiki and tip.it maybe runeHQ Use the first two first though. But basicaly take everything you knew from 2001 and throw it out the window. Nearly nothing that made money then makes money now. Except for minning but its a little slow for money making. Learn about the grand exchange and how to use it to supplement skills training/ money making. Best of luck. If you have any questions feel free to pm i wont mind helping out a fellow long time rs player. http://www.clanhavok.net/

In fact the top 3 moneymakers involve mining Runite, mining Adamantite, and mining Gold. Sure, it's slow, but it adds up, and it is very rewarding in the end (especially runite!). xSxqPowerx
Also remember that a lot of stuff is easier now, or that there are faster training levels. Even level 100 combat is considered fairly low now. Also, 70 combat can be done in a few days. Do some quests, try some mini games. I'd definitely work for 70 in all combat stats and an abyssal whip. Now in F2p i have no idea but the OP was saying he just got members again. Rune minning is very much hit or miss and most times its miss you spend hours logging in and out of the game sure if your really like spending your time watching the counter tick down after you just switched worlds then rune minning is a blast. It can provide lots of money quickly or can provide a headache in wich you spend 2 hours and get 15 rune ore... And the top 3 money makers on P2P are definatly not rune, adam, and gold minning. Rune minning would be top 10 maybe top 5. BUt rune miner know its not all its cracked up to be. http://www.clanhavok.net/

nerdboyxxx
I'm sorry but you won't get fame in the game, it is a shame (rofl :P). The reason you were so well known back then was because the game was so much smaller. If you were level 70+ you were considered a god. Nowadays you have to be 120+ to have NAY attention and even then people won't care. Even players with 138 combat aren't praised as they walk past. You might, however, get noticed if you are wearing a summoning skillcape ;) I'd suggest starting as f2p, and getting to grips with the envronment. Starting out as f2p is much easier than p2p, because the world is much smaller in comparison. It allows you to get familiar with everything. The only thing I can really suggest is to browse on tip.it and read the skill guides, moneymaking guides, and look at the maps of the f2p/p2p world to get familiar with all the changes that've happened over the years. I wish you the best of luck :
