i_love_burritos
One year onward after his election, on this, November 5th, Obama has completed one quarter of his term as presidnet. So, TIF, especially those of you who are American, what are your views ?
warri0r45
Not that I have a strong opinion either way, but I think it's been well and truly shown that he's not the second coming of Christ like some though he would be.
Lenticular_J
Actually it's only been nine months. He didn't do anything noteworthy the three months from election to inauguration, except probably throw his last wild and crazy parties. He hasn't done a lot, though. catch it now so you can like it before it went so mainstream
Guthorm
To be honest he has promised many things, but most of them have not passed yet, I will wait until his plans are carried out before I start to judge. champion
Adrenal, you sure seem fascinated by Obama :P (at least 3 threads on him). He hasn't done terribly much, but he still has more than 3 years to go. He could be doing a lot better, but he could also be doing a lot worse. But I still believe he has the capability to fulfill his some earlier promises.

np_tyler
It's not that the general policy ideas are terrible; socialized health care could be a good thing, but I don't think many of our government officials are competent to make it work well. Concerning less dire issues like same-sex marriage and perhaps abortion, I think Obabma is right in not bringing those front and center and instead focusing on more important issues, even if he may be wrong about them. And, with military issues, the focus seems to be in Afghanistan, and I've been getting mixed messages about his wishes for the conflict there and in Iraq. On the whole, I didn't expect much from Obama, and I haven't and don't think anything great will come. Hopefully nothing devastating doesn't happen, either. - Np Tyler
Zierro
He's good at inspirational speeches, and that's about it. I haven't seen much "change" at all.
Range_This11
I doubt he'll be as good as people think he will be, but jeez, he's only had office for 9 months. I'm sure a lot of the things he's starting aren't even in committee yet. It's not like he has a magic wand that he can point at Congress and go *poof new law*. Things take time. 1_man_army
Things could have been better but they could have been worse. I think people were slightly hysterical in their expectations of him though. Overall, I'd say he's had a solid start but he has to do more during the next three years. He who learns must suffer, and, even in our sleep, pain that cannot forget falls drop by drop upon the heart, and in our own despair, against our will, comes wisdom to us by the awful grace of God. - Aeschylus (525 BC - 456 BC)
obfuscator
Like all politicians, he's made promises and not kept them. He's made mistakes, and he's angered and annoyed a lot of people. That said, there have certainly been worse...and all politicians make promises they can't keep. The fact that he won the nobel prize still really annoys me though. indy500fan
Umm, no it hasn't been a year. He took office January 20th of this year. Promised a lot, and we have seen a decent amount completed so far (link), so I believe he has done OK. Especially since he had to pick up the pieces of the previous 8 year horror. stevepole
I think most people, for some odd reason, have come to expect to huge radical changes overnight but we don't work like that. He's trying best and so fair I'm been pretty impressed with Obama. It is actually one year since Obama was elected President but he did not take office until January 20th 2009. Nadril
I think he's been doing decent so far. You can't expect such large bills (like health care) to be passed overnight afterall, especially when a lot of republicans are still voting against the bill. I'd rather see where Obama stands near the end of his presidency, not 9 months or so in.

Bauke
He did not start a war so he at least did it better than his predecessorIt seems our standards for success have been lowered dramatically. My expectations for the US have hit rock bottom after all those years of Bush. The fact that people have actually voted for him twice makes me not ever want to go to the US. So yes, he didn't bomb anything yet, so it's all great. mlclm
As much as I love hatin on Bush, I don't think anyone's giving him enough credit. Yes, he started a war, but only after we were severely attacked. Americans wanted blood, and he gave it to them. We're just a bit overwhelmed with it at the moment. Harakiri
At least Bush followed through with his promises, Obama has been nothing but a media [bleep], every day I see a picture of his face on my newspaper or on the internet or on the television. He has done nothing worthwhile for the country. I liked the guy at first, thought he could change the country for the better, but he has done nothing but hog the media. OMG, OBAMA BUYS A BURGER WITH SPICY MUSTARD!!! OMG, IT'S SASHA'S BIRTHDAY! Who the hell cares? Hopefully their will be a bit more work happening in the Oval Office during the next three years.
