Wugmasterx
I agree, they aren't very useful. More people use the white tree fruit, and ever since the resting update, nobody seems to use the energy restorers unless it is required. Robert_R
They are basically useless but they are rare to get so for some reason people put a high value on them on the street. If you're wondering how trades work with these this is how: if people are selling something that's very hard to get in the ge, atm dragon bones are a good example, people will take mint cakes+cash for bones instead of selling bones with junk for about 7k each bone. In fact I just worked out a pretty sweet deal using peoples want for mint cakes lol I traded some guy 2 z spears for 2 mint cakes+cash and bought 1k dragon bones from another guy using the mint cakes+cash so technically I only paid market price for the bones. I'm pretty sure your friend is wrong, jagex has never said they took that reward out and I don't see any reason why they ever would. It's rare because there are only two ways to get it: a one time reward after a quest(forgot which one) and a very rare reward from the gnome delivery mini game. Draconic
The Cake is a fairly rare reward from the gnome delivery mini-game, but it is NOT, I repeat NOT a discontinued item. When you go feather dragon god, you never go back.

Shepherdman7
Sounds like an expensive piece of junk (practically speaking), as pretty much all rares are... Then again, if you know how to make a gp off of the thing, I suppose they're not totally worthless from a practical perspective. i_D_r
Sometimes you want items that are in high demand to make money with them. These rise slowly, so really, they're only a merching tool for others items, and a new snazzy way to stake.
bedman
Wow, never thought about staking with it. Actually a very good way to do this. Find a item with low ge value, bump it up to a few mill and play around. As long as there are other unbuyable which you can trade it for, which are useful, then you are good; A Guide to Chinning in Ape atoll: up to 325kxp/h! Tact
I really see no sane reason why mint cakes are valued so high. In my opinion, this would only have happened had inflation and such washed so much coin into the market.
AlexRose
It's because merchant clans decided that they were a rare item, and started the "It's a rare item z0mg!" thing. Subsequently, now people think the actually are a rare item. It's pretty stupid.

I have like three of those under gnomic food in my bank :/ EDIT: Wait, I only have 2It's an odd merchanting sort of fluke made possible by their rarity. They've become similar to pumpkins and easter eggs somehow because there's a false rumor spreading (as one person already mentioned) that they're discontinued. People who believe the rumor were willing to pay high prices for them, so merchants bought them at slightly lower prices to sell to those people. By now hopefully most people understand that they aren't really discontinued--hopefully--but they've already established a black market value in the eyes of merchants and are being used as a sort of anti-junk, an item with de facto value far above its GE value that can be used to balance trades with other items that are undervalued in the GE. At least, I think that's what's going on. "I'll buy your item at GE price even though it's a bad deal for you, but I'll throw a mint cake on top of the cash to make it worth your while without exceeding the 60k limit." Whether this practice is sustainable is hard to tell, as there isn't really any precedent for it that I know of. Certainly the rising GE value is a built-in limit. The layperson can abuse this by using any mint cakes they have to dump any junk they happen to be holding onto. That's what I did--I have now successfully liquidated all of my junk thanks to Path of Glouphrie. stonewall337
I believe they have been assigned a fiat value, due to the fact that they are, as troactid mentioned, somewhat hard to get, and are rather "rare" as not many people play the gnome minigame, compared to things such as barrows or SC. However, since they aren't discontinued, and have limited utility, they are not an incredibly stable item. [hide=Drops]Araxxor Eye x1 Leg pieces x2GWD: 5000 Addy bar Steam B Staff x3 Z Spear x6 Sara.
