As I am about 50k away from 80 att I have been wondering should I go straight for 99 att/ or Should i get straight 80 melee skills?

If it has any impact of your advice, I'm going for 85 slayer so that's how I'm training.

Also i would like to do more monster hunting like God Wars.

Btw

Straight 80's all the way, it'll look better for recruiting and it will really speed it up when you do go for 99 att.

Getting a balanced character will be more useful when monster hunting. That extra def will help you stay somewhat longer.

I would say straight 80's or even straight 85's. I prefer being balanced but its up to you.

Get straight 80's first, then go for 90 attack, then either 90 defence or 90 strength first, then 99 attack, and 99 defence or 99 strength.

There is a common misconception that getting 99 strength will make you train faster when really it will cause you to train longer because you don't have maxed attack. What's the point in hitting very high if it doesn't happen often?

Depends where you train. If you train on Armoured Zombies just get 99 strength since you'll be hitting 99% of the time anyway. Then you can train faster using an abyssal whip.

If you train more casually with slayer or something, get attack first.

Seeing as you're going for slayer go for all 80's first and see where that leaves you. If you could post your slayer stat/exp it would help. But put it this way: 85 slayer needs: 3,258,594exp. So basically take your exp out of it; leaving you with however much is left for 85. Then times that by 4 and you'll find how much exp you can get. I'd be willing to bet that you could get 85 with all 85's and maybe a little left over. I don't know however as I can't find your stats. But still go with straight 80's then decide if you want straight 85's and then you may have some left over exp to get for attack levels./

Good luck.

Yes having a balanced set of skills helps out for most all combat related things you do. I have had to decline peeps trying to join my clan cause of them thinking they are just the greatest for having 99 range or 99 str etc...etc...

Better ti have all your skills up and not just one.

I'd rather have 99 attack and 90 strength then 99 strength and 90 attack. As your max hit doesn't increase a lot from 90-99, however your accuracy is improved much from 90-99.

I'm going towards 85 slayer too, and it's going to get me 90 defense, 90 strength, and *almost* 99 attack. So, depending on what your slayer level is already, you should be able to get atleast all 85s, and possibly all 90s or more.

Dont go right for a 99.

Learn from us. Going 85/80/99 both took forever and was a waste (99 defence isnt as Godly as I thought it was)

Im somewhat starting to rebalance, I hit 91 attack last night and got up to 85 strength.

Ill probably get strength up quick to 90 and then get attack to 99. Then strength to maybe 95? (I hate the dscim)

But the main rule is to be balanced.

Naah you're exaggerating how much your accuracy is improved after 90, there really isn't much of a difference between training attack more or strength more. I'd keep them equal just because that would look better.

What I did was train equally in groups of 5 until level 90. Then I got 93 attack/strength/defence, and got lazy. I got 98 attack now, but am going for 98 strength and defence before going for 99 melees. The reason I'm doing this is mainly because when I get waterfiend tasks and iron/steel dragon tasks, I use controlled option on the zamorakian spear. I don't want the exp to go to waste, so I'm letting my attack just level slowly while strength and defence catch up. It would have been best if I used control on the whip, but I like seeing my exp go up fast, so I use whip for attack/defence and the saradomin sword for strength.

I don't see the point in getting 80 in two melee stats and 99 in another, or even 85. Maybe at 90 of two and 99 in the other I see it as ok, but before that I feel that it's best to keep it even. So I'd say get 90/90/90 melee stats before considering getting 99 in a single one. Another reason is that if you like to boss hunt, 90s look much better than 85s in my opinion, so that 'd help you.
