Clans dyeing or just an Illusion?

Greetings.

I was browsing through the TWR ranking table and I clicked the history tab and I was just watching the rise and fall of certain clans and I noticed that the number of clans has gone down starting a period of August 09 up till now.

There was a max of 32 clans in August-09 and now there are just 20 and if you want to add the waiting list the number adds up to 26.

My question is this :

Whats happening to clans, particularly in TWR ?

Is the formation of Teams having a impact on Clans?

What can be a solution?

I for one know a reason, but if I were to mention it, the mods will not be too pleased and as experience shows from the past the topic will be moved/deleted, so rather than making anyone angry, its best the community decides whats happening to the clans around TWR.

No flame / bait intended, its for the community to discuss.

Nothing? Natural clan like stuff is happening. Except some are turning into teams by accepting members from Clans outside TWR.

Is the formation of Teams having a impact on Clans?

Nope, not even, you take away teams there goes 2+ more members of the TWR rankings. Seriously, all teams it's clan > team so I don't get why you are thinking teams take away active members of clans.

What can be a solution?

Solution? you're comparing two different times bro, august is more of a summer time, people can war more, school hits you hit slumps and clans don't know how to handle them as most clans who join TWR are new. You loose members and you give up. Lack of experience also comes into play if you're loosing a lot theres a high chance you're not having fun thus you leave the rankings or close.

I'm sure once summer hits some new clans or old clans will re join.

I know what you're hinting at, it may be a problem but it's honnestly not that big of an impact as you may think it is.

Members are leaving, joining top 10 clans. Have watched a lot of my friends who were from back of the day leave their clans to move on to top 10 ones, some clans however on TWR are honor based and don't allow multi clanning so they end up pulling out and giving up. Back when TWR had a lot more clans there were still only a base 5-10 that were actually active, TEH, LGZ, Mori, Por, Hp, BK, DH, and then Downfall once we came along. Also, a lot of my friends that have been in clans are moving on and focusing on their studies, whether it be in high school or college. So that takes a lot away from clans.

Is the formation of Teams having a impact on Clans?

Not at all, teams aren't taking any members away from a clan, clans > team.

What can be a solution?

No solution its a game.

Btw, nice attempt at a troll of Dandaman's old clan <3:

I'd say it's more that some clans will be removed/leave the TWR due to inactivity or other reasons.

I don't think teams are so much an issue as multi clanning, teams at least (should be) less important than your clan. When you're in two clans though that can cause more issues.

School hit. We're in the prime of school right now, so pulls are going to be lower no matter what. Give it two to three months, pulls will increase and clans will join/rejoin TWR and other warring leagues.

Is the formation of Teams having a impact on Clans?

Not in the slightest, if anything, it'd help them. They allow practice fights and other fights for members to participate in to strengthen warring habits.

What can be a solution?

Not really a need for a solution, keep things steady, don't give up and at the end of the day, things'll work out.

Hardly. Plenty of clans to war, it's more of clan world is changing into cwa with less experience, still plenty of people willing to clan just got to motivate/shape them into what you think is acceptable I suppose, I don't get why cwa clans go omg clan world dying, plenty of cwa clans. Plus some pvp clans are willing to give you a fight in cwa.

They are getting tired of warring the same clans over and over.

Is the formation of Teams having a impact on Clans?

No, that's a whole other story.

What can be a solution?

I don't see one.

Okay, I'm no expert on the clan world, seeing as I've only got into the fold of things only recently, after a long 5 year break... but seriously, how can you guys claim that teams are not having an impact on clans?

People are turning to teams for PKing and warring, and leaving their clans in the dust. Clans would be a lot more active if these teams didn't exist... I mean, I've seen people skip out on clan events because of team events before. Some of these teams are really active, and take away from the time that their members can put into their own clans.. so call me crazy for laying the blame on them if the clan world is indeed dying. It's a shame that multiclanning is the norm in the RS clan world nowadays. Clans back in the day would have never allowed it.

And to those of you who want to argue that these PvPing/warring teams are not actually clans, save your breath, because to me, on the inside and out, they are clans and nothing else - no matter their name. I've said it before - they really exist as a loophole to be able to multiclan.

EDIT: I always feel the need to preface my posts with this: this is my opinion as a member of the clan community, not the staff.

This argument existed back when it was No Honor versus Honor. No Honor clans and teams were stealing honor members. It was considered what was killing the clan world. Now the scapegoat is teams.

From a leader perspective, if your members are leaving your clan for a team, you should be wondering why. Is it the activity? The tighter focus of events (ie strictly warring)? What? What are they offering that you aren't?

Some of the answers to these questions will be things you can't compromise on. Your members might just want to be jerks and troll to their heart's content. They might want to be in many different clans at once. They might want to be NH. But if there's something that you CAN change, like being more active, having a better variety/tighter focus for events, etc, then why pass the blame to a scapegoat? You need not look farther than a mirror to understand what the problem is.

If you've got members bailing for teams for silly, moral-compromising reasons, count yourself lucky. They saved you from the drama they would've caused later.

Whats happening to clans, particularly in TWR?

Ever since TWR became team central, most clans left Tip.it. Let's face it, no legitimate clan with a committed member base is going to enjoy warring random teams of friends in a "W141 CWA" atmosphere, which is the reaction you will get if you mention TWR to any of the top clans. This infestation of teams doesn't leave the committed clanner much of an option, either get out of Tip.it and join a legitimate clan on Zybez OR become a random teamer like everyone else. You can imagine the effect this is having on the clan world, since most of the committed clanners are joining the Top 10, other clans don't stand much of a chance at surviving. I mean just take a look me, I am here to represent a legitimate clan here on TWR and look at the welcome I have received. I've been treated like a government inspector who just walked into a black market and am still waiting to receive approval into TWR. I wouldn't be surprised if the clan I represent is denied TWR access, it is blatantly obvious that TWR begun to display favoritism towards teams and discrimination against clans the moment Loge packed his bags and took off, I guess TWR clans shouldn't have taken him for granted. So you can understand why most legitimate clans don't appreciate the major team atmosphere here because it doesn't make clans feel welcome, however I also believe there are a real clans in TWR which are worth warring and that's the reason I am here.

Is the formation of Teams having a impact on Clans?

The formation of teams is detrimental to the very foundation of clans to say the least, why else would the head warlords of Divine Forces and The Titans disapprove of their members joining teams? More recently, why do you suppose BK would enforce the "No Teams allowed" rule? Think about it, why would one of the oldest clans on Runescape kick teamers when they already have their roots sown deep within the clan world? Nothing much to say really, the answer to this question pretty damn obvious.

What can be a solution?

A quote from this topic compliments of Lovelost: http://forum.tip.it/topic/229481-got-a-twr-related-questioncommentidea-post-it-here/page__st__80

It's on the clans own desicsion to allow multiclanners or not. If we clear multiclanners we take away a large chunk of active competitors. Some teams aren't here for the points like you stated, they are here for the planned wars that are always gaurenteed.

But if DV won't clear their multiclanners I suggest Downfall accept a full out and I will be there; as a multiclanner. More will join and then DV will cry. Taste of your own medicine is coming in the future DV i'd suggest you act NOW before I actually decide to follow through.

Thats where our opinons differ [ for once] two wrongs don't make a right. The realility should be set in stone, one clan per person, on and off site. Teams can get fights without points, and if they really need to use points to badger a clan into fighting obviously they should be fighting someone at a higher level.

So, are you calling LND, TKO BLITZ, 141 teams? Because I am sure either of those two teams can win against almost any clan here matched. I find this a false statement. If anything it's more of the "141 CLAN atmosphere that turns clans away, I won't mention any in specific, but hell even Downfall came out of 141, luckily we grew out of that phase and have become much better than most of our counterparts that came out of 141.

I chose not to answer the asked question on the first place, because I wanted to see what the community thinks about them.

Whats happening to clans, particularly in TWR ?

Clans in general are suffering from slumps, schools + exams keeping everyone busy.

If we talk of TWR, I would say lack of healthy competition is forcing clans to change there preferences, there just seems to 1-2 active clans.

Is the formation of Teams having a impact on Clans?

Yes, the formation of teams have had a impact on clans, teams tend to take away active members from a clan.

What can be a solution?

Tbh, I dont see one myself, until and unless the Teams are in existence. Scrapping away with Teams (Not allowing people to join teams and clans, join either one) might be a solution but I doubt any clan or on the bigger scale any Community forums (TWR or Zybez) will be willing to take such a risk, it could seriously backfire either way.

Or lets just be hopeful that when summer hits, as dandaman pointed out, clans and members will rejoin.

@Amateurnoob: No such intention to hit on Dandaman's old clan, on the contrary he seems to understand what I am trying to point out in a hidden undertone manner. A fact that more and more clans have started to point out recently.

@Ninane: Flame/troll/Spam is something which I am not used to do, in one of my last post I just mentioned it's good to be a fail troll because it gives mods less work to do, as they don't have to move/delete the post, but the post was deleted I wonder what spam or troll I mentioned in that.

And if you were to check this topic again, JOE seems to be trolling on his post which he made.

Your "Clan" Is w141, The only conlcusion as to why you have such a hate for these "w141" teams is that they steal your recruits? Idk man I'm really lost about this w141 atmosphere you are speaking about yet your clans home world is w141. I hope you get accepted, only reason I "Troll'd" was your attitude to the TWR rankings, which you continue to persue. Why join a community of which you seem to have so much hate for and think so low of?

Clan > Team. If you think they take away active members why do you allow your ranks to take part of Top 10 clans?

Teams are fine as long as they're not replacing clans. As soon as a team event takes priority over a clan event of any kind, it is no longer a team. It is a clan.

^ agreed- that said teams should be for playoffs etc- I don't see the need for them to compete in a rankings ladder :/

The thing is... this isn't 141, none of these teams on here even go anywhere near a playoff, these are rankings for people that have moved on from doing that, these teams aren't 141 teams they're legit teams you should redirect yourself to the memberlists of TKO and LND I'm pretty sure you won't see too many names you know from 141 playoffs.

Taking a team off of TWR because they are a team is like saying Ninane can't be a mod because shes a girl... And a dang fine girl at that ;)

That's an interesting claim I've never heard made before. Do you mean to say that teams get more points than clans? Or that teams get rule preferences? If so, I'd love to see some examples. To the best of my knowledge, this has never been the case, since the day Loge_05 himself proposed the rule that defined multiclanning on the TWR.
