03-Mar-10 Changes to HP Skill, Shattered Heart, RuneScape Lobby/Login Changes, Success at Smelting Iron

The last so many pages of this thread make me wish they had just added tenths of a hitpoint. Same outcome, but we wouldn't have so many "un-Runescape" like high numbers (/sarcasm)

Give me an example of why it was needed. Don't give me bull**** like Oh because we hit too many zeros. well stfu, because i've seen plenty of zeros in duel arena.

I think Jagex should be focusing on how to destroy threats like merchant clans, inflation, and spammers in W2. Those are the changes we need. It would certainly help If Jagex would make updates for the better. Not make it worse for some of us, and better for some of us.

I'll just copy and paste what someone else said replying to one of your other posts, since obviously you've been failing at reading:

"My problem with your reasoning is that it doesn't take into account the positives or future implications of the update. You haven't said anything about the more accurate hit readings, the possibility of armor/weapons/potions/etc that could affect Constitution, such as armor that increases it, thereby increasing your max possible life points, or weapons that decrease it, making your opponent unable to heal up to their max possible life points."

This is probably one of the main reasons why it was needed, because it opened the door for future updates and possibly higher hitting weapons/bosses/monsters. And you should stop acting like everyone is flaming you when you're also flaming too telling people(like me) to stfu, cause thats just being a hypocrite.

Why must people criticize an update that hasn't been out twenty-four hours except for the ridiculous reason that it's "not runescape-like"? Give it a few months, a few weeks at least. It may take some getting used to, yes, but it opens the doors to more updates that we couldn't have before (as it's been stated dozens of times). Stop criticizing something you've barely even had the chance to try.

Constitution update "not RuneScape like"? In what way does the constitution update change any of the gameplay at all?

[insert birds flying in a circle here]

Yes, that sig was annoying.

New HP changes? Sweet!

New Runescape lobby? Sweet!

Success at smelting iron? Meh...

Shattered Heart? N/A.

Patch notes? Sweet, as always!

Overall, I like this week's updates. A good start to March.

Main reason for this update? Flexibility in the combat engine. Your combat skills will have more of an impact on the damage you deal since instead of dealing 18 you can deal 18X damage depending on your level, making the levels themselves more rewarding.

I'm god damned annoyed.

More chance of success while smelting iron. Why? Why are they making everything in this game easier...

And this new hp update annoys me too. Hitting in the 100's... Bah! Maybe i've played for too long since everything they do nowadays seems to annoy me.

I think I know what Jagex did wrong here, they put the dev blog backwards. The "veterans" are skimming through the dev blog and they see the "we want to make sure newbies feel they are doing something" and then completely ignore the rest and start the massive rage fest on RSOF. Instead Jagex should have switched the reasons and put the more flexibility reason first so people do not go around and skip portions of the article.

This really just proves how dumb RSOFers can be.

But, I'm not surprised, because of this thing that I call the Runescape cycle:

1. New updates are confirmed.

2. RSers bring up their hope for this major update(s).

3. Updates released.

4. RSers create too many rants on RSOF.

(There really needs to be a picture that contains this, similar to the Sonic cycle.)

It's unconstitutional, Bwahaha I just had to say that. :twss:

Hahaha

On topic: splitting up the Constitution skill from your actual Life Points has opened up a door for many future updates, like the Constitution boosting armor/potions already mentioned. New Slayer updates - awesome, though I doubt anyone will be using the option to have Kuradal assign Aquanites, lol.

Chuck Norris doesn't ever need a compass; he randomly points somewhere and north goes there in order not to anger him.

31 pages wow... One thing i noticed or what happened to me was i left runescape running when i went to bed last night when i woke up i wanted to check if a rock ended up in my invo. so i clicked to play runescape and i was put back into the game never had to re-enter my password. This could be bad if you forget to log out of the lobby or get called away from the game quickly anyone could just get onto your char. So the one hour thing they said something about is bull cause after 8 hours of sleeping i still went right back into the game.

I only just got online so haven't read all 31 pages, but has anyone else noticed a change with the Deflect curses?

I was just killing Bork and a few times the Ork legions got hit which is new.

They used to work when we got hit 10 or over, and it did 10% of the damage back to them. Now 10s are a whole lot more common so we get to hit a lot more 1s back at them?

Meh, not amazing but it's slightly more useful than it was I suppose!

Might want to report it then.

I like the update, but why couldn't they have added "HP boosting armour/potions" with the old HP system? :-?

If you do it before, it will affect your current HP as well.

Because it would have to change the /99 instead of the 99/. which Jagex never does.

Zerker_jane.png
The changes were neccessary and needed, if you don't like change why don't you go back to runescape classic? And debates is encouraged, just you still haven't provided any evidence other than that change is bad as to why it was a bad update.

Yeah, Let's not make the already really stiff and inconvenient HP system a bit more flexible for future updates and already existing content. Instead they should make it even more inconvenient by chaging the max hp to 9! That would make runescape even more original!

It's not like all those HP boosting items and equipment should be usefull at all.

Ya i agree i like the update but life points to me sounds so cheazy why not just keep it Hit Points. They stated the reason for change of the 990 max was beginers could only hit either 1 or 0 and could be only be hit for a mininum of 1 which would be 10% of their health.... The only thing i wish they would change is Life points back to hit points or call it health anything but life points what the hell is a life point? really what is a life point? I mean you have 1 life then you die and get respawned. Hit points just make so much more sence cause its the amount of time you can get hit until you lose your life.

I just had an idea. What if this update is also paving the way for the smithing update? What better way to revive smithing than to give them a way to take advantage of the constitution change by making new armors (or perhaps attachments) that give constitution bonuses? Here's one possibility (probably wrong, though):

High level smiths will be able to make 'Heartstone Attachments' which can be attached to certain regular armors. To show that the equipment has a heartstone attachment, the name would become like this: 'Equipment (heartstone)', for example a Rune Plate with a bronze heartstone would become Rune Platearmour (bh). What heartstones would do is increase your constitution by one level for each rank of metal and can only be attached to their rank of metal armor or higher. Each bronze Heartstone would increase your constitution by 1, each Iron heartstone would increase your constitution by 2, but could only be attached to iron or higher armor, and so on.

So if a person in full rune were to have every piece with a rune heartstone attached, the total constitution bonus would be 24.

Malgoradan.png

I honestly cannot fathom why so many people are so worked up about this update. It is merely a visual change to the game, and whatever mechanics changed are only for the better.

If you are so attached to the way this game has looked in every trivial detail, frankly you have problems. I love the update BECAUSE it makes it look more like some of my favorite RPGs.

some of us may like originality, some of us don't. clearly, you like games that are not original and (like you said) RPGs with high numbers like we have today. but i happen to like

originality since I personally think that Runescape should of stayed the way it was and not have those uber high digit numbers like most RPGs.

What happens when we have two parties that are not agreeing with each other? A debate.

Debates should be encouraged, not discouraged like this thread. I was posting my opinion on behalf of the debate but most of you guys failed to play your parts and instead, bluntly flame at me.

Don't put words in my mouth you daft [rooster]. I never said I didn't like GAMES that weren't original, merely that some ELEMENTS of certain games, while unoriginal, may in fact be beneficial. I feel that this update qualifies as one of those things. If you want to get real technical I could say Runescape has never been original because of all of the pop culture references that appear in it. Oh boy because I've NEVER seen another game do THAT before. Well no actually, I don't have that attitude, because I actually appreciate the occasional reference.

And dude, if you wanna quit over such a silly thing then fine, quit. But the update is not BAD just because it's DIFFERENT. If you want to have a serious debate, you need to present arguments that aren't purely emotional.

sorry, this is really off topic - but since when has TIF become so flame-y? :s

anyway, i really don't understand why people are so upset with the new hp system. the only difference is the extra decimal at the end...

I really hope you're right about that. I can see it happening, too, as the little update to iron will allow lower level players to get their hands on it more easily.

EDIT: Also, am I the only person who is reminded of Yu-Gi-Oh every time he hears life points? YOU'VE ACTIVATED MY TRAP CARD. YOUR BLUE EYES ULTIMATE DRAGON IS OBLITERATED, KAIBA. NOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@
